They Lie. They waste your time.
I specifically said I was not interested in the 6-week challenge when I visited during early afternoon. The lady said okay. When I went to the website to book an orientation it was for "The 6-week challenge". I rang the gym immediately. No, all orientations even those not interested in the 6-week challenge must be booked through the website. Okay. I did it.
When I turned up it was made abundantly clear that it was all focused on the 6-week challenge which is a scam. Look up the science of real, long-term success and it doesn't include supplements etc. Nutrition is a key element in any exercise program but not what they are peddling.
So they will waste your time and are dishonest. I would inquire about their certifications and education. Is it reputable? Or is it from some "Trump University" style outfit. I'd guess the latter.
Please remember they make their money by looking good. That's their number 1 job. In short, skip The Nerd Gym and just watch the Seinfeld episode; it will be less a hassle and far more enjoyable.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda P.Tucson, AZ251355206Apr 13, 2020
did one of Antonio's classes and I have to say I really appreciate the non-judgmental and freedom exercises that were offered. I would highly recommend a kettle bell class or a dumbbell class to get you started if you're interested in your free ten-day membership. The exercises are easy to grasp and you definitely feel the muscles moving and working at the end of your work out. Being fluffy as I would say I really appreciate the staff and the nice touches and friendliness they have to offer. From nutrition to messaging and the nice techy touches makes this gym a gem in tucson. Support local!

I'm really sad to be writing this review with this result. I waited several days to write it to reflect on my experience. I've been reading about The Nerd Gym, and then saw an ad looking for 40 men for a free six-week fitness challenge program. I took a few days to think about whether I was ready mentally and lifestyle-wise to do something like this as I take commitments seriously. Finally, I committed myself and filled out the application. I got an email saying that I was #42 on the wait list, but confirming me for an orientation a few hours after I signed up. I was off the wait list pretty quickly.
I got to the gym at my appointed time and there were 3 other people there for orientation. 2 men and 2 women (so I assume that women get the same ad for the challenge targeting them). We all had different fitness goals, but the classes and workout times sounded great. As did the meal program. Politically and socially their views aligned with mine, so I got more excited about the program- even with the sacrifices over the holidays. There wasn't a lot of time or room for questions, and at the end of the orientation, the woman who was running it said that for accountability they required a financial deposit and that "it would hurt" to keep us motivated. She said that if we completed the program, we would get our deposit back or we could put it towards a membership. Then she told us that the deposit was $500!!! And they wanted us to sign a contract right then and there committing the $500. I looked at the contract in shock. As I read it, the lawyer in me started noticing things. For example, you lose your $500 if you forget to check in on Facebook even one time, or don't take a picture of one of your meals with the app. You lose it if you don't complete the program. And, even more troublesome, the way it was worded, you lose your $500 if you complete the program but do not meet the goals that they set out for you. BTW- no goals had even been set out yet, so I didn't even know what they would be. I had to agree to meet these goals and give them $500 before I knew if they were realistic, etc.
Finally, you have to agree in the contract that if you lose your $500, you cannot post negative reviews about them on Yelp or Google or they are allowed to delete them. So if you have a terrible experience, AND they take your money, you can't tell anyone about it.
I asked the woman if I could take the contract and think about it because a. I didn't have $500 free at the moment, b. I needed to make sure that I could swing it financially, and c. I still had questions that had not been answered and I wanted to have time to follow up with my questions after reviewing things more closely. The woman got very tense, and her smile which had seemed genuine was clearly now just plastered on. No, we could not decide tomorrow or the next day because they "would fill up off the wait list tonight." So basically, we haven't advertised the cost at all (except to say it was "free"), and now we are asking you for a large amount of money you weren't prepared to commit to and no you do not have time to check your finances, think about it or come back with questions before you sign the contract. 3 of the 4 of us very politely said that we could not make such a decision on the spot and it was as if we were not even there, as she turned to the only person who was doing the challenge and left us to awkwardly get up and leave.
I'd still like to know if you lose your money after working your ass off for 6 weeks but not meeting whatever goal they put on you. And how, if the trainings are group classes, how the skinny guy who wants to bulk up and my who wants to lose weight and tone up are going to get our desired results taking the same classes. But this gym did not want me to ask those questions, they wanted me to give them a big chunk of money with no warning, no time to consider and no consideration to budgetary concerns. Give us your money right now or go home.
I felt like I was in some kind of pyramid scheme. And so disappointed. Moreso the more I think about how they handled the whole situation- and purposefully misled us to get us in the door.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachael S.Tucson, AZ281382Oct 3, 2018
These guys are truly awesome! It's such a welcoming environment and I felt like I belonged right as I walked in! I watched some classes being done and they looked so fun and like a good workout! It really seemed like a family there and they know what they are talking about!

I love this gym! The environment is comfortable, everyone is supportive and the program is based on SCIENCE! The workouts are incredible! Just after a few weeks I began feeling and seeing muscles I haven't noticed in quite a while. If you sign up for the 6 week challenge the gym provides you with a meal plan to help you obtain maximum results. After six weeks I've been able to change my eating habits and feel healthier. I love this gym and the supportive, respectful environment they have cultivated there!

If you start working out here, you won't want to go back to any other regular gym!
They personalize your workouts to achieve individual goals and help you along the way by tracking your weight and measurements to make sure you get your money's worth. That's my favorite part, having the support I need to succeed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Review This D.Tucson, AZ6613Sep 13, 2018
I adore The Nerd Gym, the community of wonderful people, and amazing instructors! I've never liked gyms but this one is different. I love my results from the 6 week challenge, it's a great way to start! It's been almost 5 months and I love every workout like the first! TNG for life!

I did the six week challenge. The trainers are amazing and very down to earth. They provide you with a meal plan based on your weight and calculated calorie intake, offering a very easy to follow diet plan (Make no mistake, you have to really commit to it) but the amazing thing is that the trainers Guide you through it without shaming and you are introduced into a group that is going right along with you and shares your struggles to say no to that donut. You are provided with several social media databases where you are able to communicate your questions, temptations, and also offer your support not just receive it. Get ready to change the way you chose your food and to be witness to a beautiful community and family!
The trainers Mel and Eric have pretty much thought it all through and will offer you with the best support, you also have to be willing to undergo that change and I do believe these people are the best to help you realize you are worth it and it's time to start thinking about your health!

I have been training with Mel for a couple of years, and she is the BEST!
Mel's and Eric's new studio is beautiful, and they offer many classes including kettle bells, japanese sword, tabata and personal training.
I highly recommend Quality Strength!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
