I visited on a chilly night recently and generally enjoyed my visit.
There were only a couple open tables when we arrived around dinner time on the Thursday prior to Halloween. The restaurant was decked out for the holiday.
We had the option of a high top (which my mom abhors) or one of two open half booths. We selected the one farther from the family with children, but I spent almost my entire meal with a shaking booth thanks to the kids banging on it without a care from the adults. I have lots of opinions on that, but I'll keep them to myself in this public forum.
We started with the tavern fries, which were delightful. We got the onions on the side but the mix of fries and gravy and bacon were stunningly delicious.
My mom ordered the turkey dinner blueplate and I had the short rib meal. One thing that we both noted was that black pepper was heavily distributed in both of our meals. The mashed potatoes in particular would've been sooo much better without it. Like I think it's good to an extent, but when overdone it definitely alters the meal. The short ribs were still good nonetheless.
For dessert, aka the main reason why I wanted to visit, I ordered the pumpkin chocolate bread pudding. My mom had the strawberry shortcake biscuit.
I was pretty stuffed, mostly from the fries, at that point, but I powered my way through the entire bread pudding. It was that good. I'd go back entirely for that dish.
Our server was friendly and prompt, the vibe inside aside from the kids was great. I'd definitely return but choose a table not connected to others and ask for light on the pepper.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 291442735Oct 9, 2020
I stumbled across this place on Grub hub in my quest to find healthy food that could be delivered quickly! I swear I had every intention of ordering a salad and then I saw that had Mac N Cheese on the menu and I couldn't pass it up! Before I continue I should tell you I have very high expectations of salad and a bit of a food snob when it comes to Mac N cheese!
My salads have to be flavorful, colorful, interesting and tasty! Let me tell you my stuffed Avocados did not disappoint! They take a whole avocado cut it in half and pile mixed lettuce, black beans, corn and grilled shrimp on top! The shrimp was seasoned very well. The dish as a whole was just shy of perfection due to the lack dressing. Some sort of Vinegrette would've taken things to the next level! My Mac N Cheese had a white cream like sauce too it and was just ok!
Overall I thought my first experience was a pleasant one! I'd be interested in trying other items in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Christopher H.Chicago, IL5773Dec 11, 2020
I ordered wings and pizza via grub hub. Wings were delicious as always. The pizza on the other hand, was an absolute train wreck. I have included photos that should speak for themselves.
Beyond the pizza that looks like a 5 year old built it, the worst part of my experience was the displeasure of having to deal with the "manager" Carrie Bell. Not only was she unhelpful and ADMITTED TO QA/QC of this monstrosity, she was terribly rude and constantly talked over me and would then say I was being aggressive when I told her to stop trying to talk over me.
I have been telling people for years how the wings here are the best I've ever had which after tonight I still believe to be true but I am at a loss for the customer service i received this evening.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauri W.Richmond, VA22529222794Oct 12, 2021Updated review
It had been forever since I came to The Mill, and that's a shame! I popped in today, a horrible day, ready to eat my weight in great diner food. I was immediately drawn to the shrimp po'boy and a side salad. I ordered the salad with ranch and subbed the bread for a gluten free brioche bun + blackened shrimp instead of fried. It was delicious! The shrimp was nice and juicy and this was THE best gluten free bun I've ever had. It wasn't crumbly at all and tasted very close to regular bread! This makes me want to come back and try a burger on the GF brioche bun. My side salad was a normal side salad, but it was flavorful and I enjoyed it.
The other star of the show, besides the bun, was the GF peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie! It was so good, chewy, and not dry and crumbly at all. I could have eaten 10 of them. This was a wonderful visit and I'll definitely be back. The only negative is that the sandwiches don't automatically come with a side. You have to pay extra.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Jun 7, 2014Previous reviewThis is as good as it gets for a neighborhood restaurant! After spending the day at the Williamsburg outlets, the boyfriend, one of our mutual friends, and I stopped at The Mill for dinner. Between the three of us, we tried the crab dip, pizza, and burger. Everything was delicious and our server was so easy going and perfect. The crab dip was a very pleasant surprise! It was so creamy and chalk full of crab. They served it with pita bread for dipping, and our server was more than willing to keep bringing us more bread when we would run out. I can't say enough great things about The Mill. Being that the boyfriend lives close to the restaurant, I think more trips here are definitely in our future!

Sunday brunch was extremely busy. The service was excellent.
Ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was not your standard biscuit and gravy. Biscuits topped with gravy, the sausage patties were on the side.
I would recommend the Mill, maybe a different dish.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 19, 2016Previous reviewSunday brunch was extremely busy. The service was excellent.

The service was excellent. After going through Ginter Park Lights Festival, dropped by this cozy place for dinner. Dinner was mostly American cuisine and they had several daily specials. I had the pork chop special. The pork shop was thick and cooked well. It was accompanied by a cranberry sauce that was quite delicious. The sides included some great greens with had a burst of flavor. The reheated side potatoes was the only downfall to this delicious meal. I'll be back!

Just barely a 4 spot.
The place is small and cozy. The service is good and so is the food. There is always a nightly special and there are special deals for each night of the week.
Tonight I was feeling like a burger so I went with the Mill Burger cooked medium rare. The temp was perfect on this burger and it was juicy, finger licking good!
Always have a decent draft list that constantly rotates, so I can really appreciate that as a beer dork. I don't however agree with the price per oz served. It's a bit steep for the small pours offered.
Cool spot that I'll hit again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Suzanne A.Henrico, VA78140246Dec 3, 2021
The service was fantastic and friendly! The menu was full of vegan and vegetarian options. But the end result was, neither of us was thrilled with our food. We both thought our entrees were a little bland. I had the curry bowl from the specials menu and my husband had the seitan cheesesteak and fries. Since there were so many other vegan and vegetarian options and the service was so friendly and welcoming, we will definitely be back!

The Mill's club sandwich on sourdough bread is what dreams are made of! (Hey now) I love their sweet potato fries paired with a nice glass of cheerwine. The overall atmosphere is a fun place to be and is great spot located in the heart of Northside.

I've had this eclectic neighborhood restaurant on my radar for awhile and I'm so glad we finally got a chance to dine here! Definitely not your "run of the mill" place! We came for brunch one Sunday after worship and the place was fairly crowded. We put our names on the wait list, they said it would be about 1/2 hour. Some people were waiting outside, they had a couple tables on the sidewalk if you choose to dine al fresco.
We stayed inside, and soaked in the ambiance while we waited. The space is rather small and cozy, but they make good use of what they have. Such cool décor. Nice paint colors, a windmill mural in the back corner, interesting wall art. To our delight, we ended up being seated in 10 minutes. The hostess led us to the back of the restaurant where we had a cute corner bar high table which was apropos since we were right by the bar.
We were instantly brought a nice cool bottle of water as we perused our menus. Nice touch! I ordered flapjacks, eggs and grits (not counting carbs today!) and my hubby ordered the same thing with bacon. The pancakes were nice and fluffy and had a slight cinnamony flavor making them delicious! My eggs came out perfect, just the way I liked them: over medium to medium well, not too hard or not too runny - my standard order description - and they nailed it! The stone ground grits with cheese were thick and creamy with a nutty texture, I devoured them! The tea selection was small, but they had English Breakfast. My hubby ordered an IPA from their decent beer menu.
The prices were reasonable for the well sized portions. Initially our server was a bit brusque, but she warmed up and was very accommodating. The space and restroom was spotless. My only critique would be that it took 40 minutes to get our food. But, we watched "How Things Are Made" on their tv and chatted while we waited. I'll cut them some slack due the busy time of day. I doubt they are always that slow. Despite that one hiccup, I'd come back here for brunch, lunch or dinner again! There were several things on the menu that I'd love to try!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
