The Melting Pot - San Diego

Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner at the Melting Pot. The food was fresh and delicious, the ambiance was elegant, and Omggggg, our server, Brent was nothing short of stellar!!! He communicated best practices, delightful recommendations and was just completely attentive.

Though we didn't make mention that we were celebrating my bday while making our reservation, once Brent realized it was my bday, he made sure I got a special treat. When back in San Diego, we'll definitely be back!

4 stars for the ambience and unique experience.

My friends took me out for my birthday and it was a fun experience! Our first course was the cheese fondue. It comes with bread, green apples, broccoli, tomato, and carrots for dipping. It was great and my friends also loved it! I noticed the menu had vegan cheese options which was cool too.

Then we chose our own proteins for the dinner entree. The salmon, shrimp, and vegan polpettes were surprisingly good, especially the salmon! I was a bit hesitant of the concept boiling meat/fish, but it was great. You boil it in the broth you choose for about 3-5 minutes. All the sauces are really yummy; there wasn't one that wasn't good. My friend was even eating the sauce by itself ha! We chose the Mojo broth and it was good. One downside is that the restaurant doesn't provide bowls or spoons to drink the soup. To take advantage of the yummy soup and the expensive entree, we wanted to drink it, but they don't allow that.

Next we got the Yin Yang chocolate fondue. We had Rice Krispies, brownies, cookies, marshmallows, pineapple, sweet bread, and strawberries. It was a great variety of dipping options. My friends and I really enjoyed it.

For my birthday, the restaurant gave me a chocolate covered strawberry on a plate that has "happy birthday" written with colored sugar. That was cute.

Overall this is a fun and unique experience for a birthday or date night. It is really expensive and this would definitely be a once in a while thing.

My first and last time at the Melting Pot!

Don't get me wrong, the experience is really cool but it's not worth the price. In a group of four, we all decided to do the 4 course meal for 2 people which includes: cheese fondue, salad, entrees, and dessert. Even though we're paying $120 per couple for this experience, we had to select one type of cheese for all four of us (same with chocolate pot for dessert), b/c the table's stove top didn't have room for two pots.

The cheese fondue comes with bread and veggies for dipping. When you're ready to move onto the next course, the waiter will clear your table--so eat all of the veggies and bread and cheese and get your money's worth! The salad will also be served with your cheese fondue. The entrees (you'll have a selection to choose from) come out raw and they'll provide you with a hot pot of broth (you get to choose the flavor) to cook your food in. So, if you're hAngry, this isn't the place for you. The skewers only hold so much meat and the cook times for the food might drive you crazy. Lol!

The dessert was the best part, in my opinion. Too bad you can't go for the dessert experience only. Overall, our waiter was excellent and very helpful. The food and experience though... not worth the time or money. People say to go if you love cheese, but the cheese fondue only takes place at the beginning. If you love cheese, you can find other ways to indulge--cheaper and more delicious ways!

Great anniversary dinner, the food was delicious and the wait staff was great. We always come here for our anniversary and we will continue to do.

A great dinner-date (in our case, anniversary-date) place!!  Pack some extra time - there is definitely no rush to this dining experience (this, a positive thing).

The food, great (how could it not be?!  fine cheeses, great cuts of meat & plenty of chocolate!)

There is a good cost to the experience, but that is also what makes it a special occasion (living a little ritzy)!

Our server, Devin, definitely was a huge plus (positive) to our meal experience.  His customer focus and apparent dedication to his job helped to make this a special time - job well done!

This place is amazing . We enjoyed it . Specially my kiddos , they enjoyed it a lot , we have a Broth , Cheese , and Chocolate for dipping  our food we ordered . My husband and i just watch the kids do the flavoring of our food for them to enjoy more the dipping part of the foods , its the main reason why we went here , for our kids to enjoy  Flavoring dipping the foods .  Everything turns good and delicious  and  our kiddos talks about it in the car on our way home they really have so much fun and belly full   :)

I have to give at least 1 star to leave a review. If I could give minus stars I sure would.
My husband and I had a horrible experience after I bragged about how great my experience was at the one in San Antonio, Texas.
I was so embarrassed and definitely so disappointed in this horrible dining experience which our horrible server, Jay, and older man led us through exclaiming that he would guide us through our first time here.
Sadly, he did and we trusted he knew what he was suggesting even after we informed him several times that our stove wasn't heating properly, yet instead of moving us to another table, after our stove turned off a second time, he mentioned that maybe we kicked off the plug insinuating that it was our fault.
Needless to say by the time we finished cooking out meats and fish we were ready to leave but remembered we still had to dip our stupid overly priced desserts.
You would think the manager would've compensated something off our horrible over priced ugly experience but she just came by to ask us, how we were doing. So freaking awful. I wonder if the poor couple seated at our crappy table had a better experience.
Pay attention staff and management!!! The customers a not always right but most of the time, WE ARE!

If you come to this trendy restaurant understand that you will pay for an amazing ambiance and very cool experience. You will also, however, be paying a premium price for mid tier food.

In addition, the service, due to the design of the courses of the meal is very slow. Our reservations were at 7:30 and we did not leave until 10:30. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a quick bite to eat or have plans afterwards.

Go there if you want to experience the fondue and environment they offer. But be prepared to stay very long and pay a lot of money for cheese and meat you could find somewhere else for cheaper.

Received a response from this restaurant staring they wanted to make it right. Gave them my contact info same day iirc and no response since 09/10 and its now 09/26. Again, what a disappointment.

Honestly, if you're going to eat here might as well go Hard. We got the big night feast, 5 kinds of meats and comes with the salad and appetizers. Sharif made the night extra special and brought her a birthday treat!
Last, make sure you choose the right broth for your meat. The mojo was mojolicious!
I would go back to this, expect a big check though. Worth it!
