Winner of best lobster roll so many times... we've lost count! There are good places to eat in Southern Maine. Other restaurants have nice views...But nothing compares with The Lobster Shack at Two Lights. Located at the end of Two Lights Road on the rocky shores of Cape Elizabeth, Maine--The Lobster Shack is an award-winning restaurant that has been a local landmark since the 1920s Enjoy your meal oceanside on the picnic tables, perched just above the crashing surf, below the lighthouse and next to the fog horn. Or stay in the cozy dining room, watching the ships entering Portland Harbor and the local fishermen haul up their daily catch.

Batter. It’s thin, so you’re not just eating fried batter. They’re really good!

Yum. Expensive but delicious. We came on a Thursday around 1pm and had no trouble finding parking in their private lot, and also found it easy to find a seat right up against the window. I think we caught the end of lunch rush and many people had recently vacated. Staff were really pleasant to interact with.
We had:
1. Lobster dinner - full steamed lobster that you have to crack open yourself. Well cooked and yummy! I wish there was some Cajun seasoning around though. Comes with biscuits (super flat which was interesting, but still tasted good), coleslaw (nothing special), fries, and melted butter (the dish didn't need this )
2. Fisherman's plate - a bed of fries topped with fried oysters, scallops, a white fish. Also came with biscuits and coleslaw. Seafood was breaded and fried nicely and all of it was melt-in-your-mouth and not oily! Definitely in the top 5% of mixed fried seafood plates I have had.
3. Lobster roll - yummmm. I'm glad the mayonnaise was a dollop in too, it was easy to cut down and remove.
Wallet is sad but stomach is happy. Pretty sure the prices are all like this so it's not a ding on this place at all. Glad we made the drive out based on a locals recommendation. Definitely think this place deserves more stars on average than it has on Yelp.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 28, 2023
I've lived in Maine for over 30 years. I've been to many many lobster establishments in Southern Maine and like, if not love many of them. Some for their chowder, or the way they fry their fish, or their generous lobster roll.
With all of that said, nobody can touch the Lobster Shack's specialty, with is their LOCATION!! A wide open view of the rocky coast with plenty of outdoor tables even makes waiting in the (long) line to get in, a more than pleasant experience.
The food is certainly good enough, and in no way any more expensive than most of their peers. Highlights for me are their fried scallops and sometimes they have grape nut pudding!!!!!
Overall, whether you are a local or just in town for a few hours, The Lobster Shack is 100% worth the trip!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bryan M.Atlanta, GA08Apr 21, 2024
It's where the elite eat in their bare feet! The lobstah is so fresh they crawl right out the ocean to the shack. The view and the food is Wicked Pissah!
Parking is tight though! Expect a car from NY or Mass to ding ya! The lines can be long on the weekends but the service is usually pretty quick.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 30, 2023
Phenomenal view and ample parking spot.
Loved the huge lobsters but was not to happy with their fried seafood platter. I guess I was expecting it to be as spectacular as their lobster. Totally my fault. Note to self, when the restos' name is Lobster, don't order anything else on the menu.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 8, 2023
You can't beat the location- outdoors, on the water. There are plenty of shaded picnic tables. There's a small dining room. Service is efficient. The food is very good. The lobster rolls are moderately priced and moderately sized. They're served with a dollop of mayonnaise on top so that you can add as much or as little as you like to your lobster. The fried clams were very good. We split an excellent slice of homemade strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert.
Quintessential Maine seafood joint experience in a beautiful location.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - May 31, 2023
I was very pleasantly surprised with my recent visit to the lobster shack!!!
My friend and I came at 5:30 on a Tuesday in mid-May, hoping we wouldn't have to fight crowds... and we were happy to arrive to just a few cars in the lot.
Ordering was kind of stressful because there was only one group in front of us we simply didn't have a ton of time to review the menu! Luckily we were on the same page and wanted to share everything, so we went with a lobster roll and a fisherman's platter and two sodas which put us back $78 which is just about what you should expect for any of the seafood places in and around Portland. Plus you're paying a little extra for the spectacular view!
The fisherman's platter was awesome!!! Lots of fried baby shrimp, whole belly clams, fish, and scallops. Plus fries, coleslaw and little biscuits. It was perfect for sharing (if i had been starving it may have been slightly small to share for a meal). The lobster roll was fine. I don't get the glob of mayo, but once we took a bunch of it off and then mixed the rest into the meat it was tasty. Next time I'll definitely opt for a repeat of the fried seafood!
They are BYOB so I brought some wine for us to share while we enjoyed our meal.
Overall I'd highly recommend a visit- if you can find some off hours, then even better!
One thing to note- it's about 10 degrees cooler on the water than it is downtown in Portland, so definitely bring a layer or two if you plan to dine outside in the evening in late spring / early summer.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Dec 6, 2023
We stopped here on our way through Maine and we're not disappointed. We were able to explore the nearby beach and rocky area while waiting. The view from the restaurant is fantastic. We got the lobster rolls, fried clams, and clam chowder. All the food was so fresh and tasty, even better when enjoying the view from the outside seating area!

Come for the food and stay for the view! Tucked away in Cape Elizabeth, ME is this wonderful seafood restaurant with a spectacular view. Have some faith in your GPS as it leads you down the dead end that is Two Lights Rd, as at the very end stands this cozy shack with plenty of seafood goodness. The service is simple - you order at the counter and they call out your number when it's ready, no need for waitresses who are too busy to refill your drinks!
I came for the lobster dinner (market price $35.99 as of April 2023) which comes with a whole lobster, fries, coleslaw, and 2 biscuits. Don't hold me to this, but I don't think they put any special seasoning in their lobster boil. The lobster comes out unadorned with any spice or Old Bay here. What you get is pure sweet lobster you can dip in butter. Crinkle cut fries were well-seasoned and crispy, the coleslaw was fresh but a little bland (I'm used to sweeter coleslaw), and the biscuits were oddly flat. The rest of the family, not being seafood people, ordered cheeseburgers (read that sentence with an eye roll).
The best part was truly the view. Parking is for customers only, so it's a small price to pay to park here, have some good food, and just sit and watch the endless sea. The kids and I spent awhile walking around on the rocks. It's a memory we'll cherish forever.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 5, 2023Updated review
Hands down, this is my favorite place in ME to get a lobster roll. Understand that MP (market price) changes daily for lobster and most seafood and anytime you see this most often indicates fresh...and this is what you want to see. Particularly with lobster. When I dine out, if there is not a MP it tells me the stuff is either frozen, less than fresh, or reduced to get rid off.
With that being said, my lobster roll was a MP of 29.99 on 9/5/2023 (that included fries and slaw). ( I heard whispers and shouts that this was a small lobster roll, but it is jammed packed and when you eat it you will see).
Check out any other MP lobster rolls in the area on this day and they are comparable or more expensive. If you are getting your lobster roll at McDonald's or anywhere else without a MP, well it is not fresh and that is why it is cheaper. It also tastes way less satisfying. Way way less. But like everything else, there are choices.
Besides the fresh jammed packed succulent meat lobster roll at this location, there is the VIEW. There is the sight of boats and birds on the sea, the foghorn sounding, the smell of saltwater with cool breezes, the sounds of the waves crashing on the rugged rocks. And the lighthouses. Intoxicating, invigorating and so calming all at the same time.
The fries are always tasty, coleslaw is a tad sweet with a welcomed crunchy consistency; the desserts are excellent, my new favorite being the blueberry crumble pie made with wild ME blueberries. Heaven. Really.
Service was great, views spectacular, and the food fresh and wonderful.
This is a true Maine experience which satisfies all off the senses.
Only 2 restrooms and a tight little parking area, but it is all worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 23, 2019Previous reviewThis place is near and dear to my heart. First of all, I am a sucker for lighthouses. Second, I lived in Maine for a decade and this was my first experience eating a Maine lobster roll.Blown away. I truly regretted not eating one before nor ever coming to this place. I have come here yearly since moving away--and it has always lived up to any hype. Always blown away. None in all of my travels has compared. None.
This place is authentic.
Maybe it's because I choose to come here NOT during high season when the traffic and crowds detract from the whole experience.
Maybe because I love sitting outside with a view of the ocean and a lighthouse.
Maybe because this establishment has been around since the 1920's and still feels a little bit like I could be transported to that time.
Or maybe...just maybe it is because it is consistently delicious and wonderful and so the Maine experience!
I recently attempted to try to go here on a visit to ME. The lines were ridiculous. I will be back when tourist season ends and enjoy the peace, quiet, and deliciousness and freshness of a Maine lobster roll, while looking at a lighthouse, smelling the ocean air, and hearing the sound of the waves on the rocks.
It is definitely worth the money. You are not paying for the view--that is an added benefit. Look around at prices---all most comparable. It is well worth it. - May 22, 2023
Lunch at the Lobster Shack is a treat. We arrived early to gaze at the ocean and watch the waves breaking on the rocks. The restaurant opens at noon. But today we heard over the loud speaker, We Are Open! It was 11:30!
We smiled and headed for the entrance. I thanked them and they said there were set up and ready for the day. Now that's customer service.
We ordered the haddock boat, the scallop boat and two clam cakes. Fresh, fast, and delicious. Included with our order was cole slaw and French fries. Looking forward to our next visit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jul 16, 2023
The Lobster Shack is located right on the coast, which makes for beautiful views while eating. Service is fairly slow during the lunch rush, but the views kept us occupied. We ordered the crab roll and the shrimp plate. I would definitely make sure to order an additional dish if you're just eating the crab roll - the portion is quite small but the crab is extremely fresh. The shrimp plate was good, but nothing special. The fries were pretty good, but the coleslaw was great. Overall, it was a great trip out for the views and fresh crab!
