I can not believe a place this nice is in my little home town. The breakfast is awesome and the tour afterwards is entertaining and informative.

Very good experience at the Inn of the Patriots. Room was clean. Easy to access house with a code that was emailed to me. We took the cooking class (extra charge) with chef Marti on Sunday, and we made Scottish cottage pie, which was delicious. You not only get to cook, but chef Marti provides background information regarding Scotland. (Map, history, a couple short videos of movies about Scotland, regional dishes to Scotland, etc.) Chef Marti involves everyone in the cooking process. Once our cottage pie had baked in the oven, we sat around the kitchen table and had a bowl of pie, and a salad and bread. (Drinks also) Breakfast was served each morning at 9am, and was very good. Fresh fruit each morning, and yesterday we had oatmeal with apples, bacon, baked egg dish with red peppers, skillet potatoes with homemade ketchup, and really good toast made from some type of French bread. I added some strawberry jam on top, and it was delicious. Today we had homemade sausage with fennel, skillet potatoes, cream of wheat with cranberries, and croissant French toast. There were only 4 of us at breakfast, so there was a lot of food for everyone. I was stuffed...it was so good. Chef Marti, and his helper (Kim) go above and beyond, to make sure you have what you need. Relaxing on the front porch rockers was very nice each evening.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at The Inn Of The Patriots. Â Marty and Stormy made our weekend so fabulous. Â To start with, the food was AMAZING!! Â I have a gluten issue, which they graciously accommodated. Â Our room was very comfortable and we felt right at home. Â Their knowledge of the area with its rich history made our visit even more interesting as we learned about the battles that were fought during the American Revolutionary War. Â We had such a refreshing time and we cannot wait to go back!

I won this wonderful vacation from the Wheel of Fortune and let me tell you, AMAZING! The house is a museum full of history. Chef Marti who is a former White House chef and a Navy Veterans owns this B&B and every morning after the best breakfast you will ever taste, takes you on a tour of the museum which is complete with stories that will leave you wanting more. Let's get back to the food lol. I don't know which one was better, the apple oatmeal or the pumpkin cream of wheat! The jams! The syrups! Especially the cream cheese syrup for those magnificent gingerbread waffles! The sausage and those glorious potatoes that I could literally eat for breakfast lunch and dinner and last but certainly not least, that amazing Nixon ketchup (to-die-for)
The small town it's in is called Grover. It's a very small country town with so much charm! It's quiet but you can tell it's a well loved place.
The rooms are all decorated with a different theme. We stayed in the Oceanicus Blue Room! It's full of memorabilia from the Navy! Being a Navy veteran it was perfect! Comfy bed with soft linens.
The whole staff was absolutely wonderful. Marti and Kim are you chefs and they will leave your pallet begging for more! My family will definitely be back very soon!

Special weekend for Kevin and I, in which he surprised me with this adventure visiting a little inn in Grover, NC. Proprietors Marty and Stormy (Rayna and Kim) were generous in their hospitality and gracious, knowledgeable hosts, providing historical tales spanning the centuries. The fellowship between the owners and their guests will always bring fond memories for us. Thank you to everyone who shared in this weekend. Kevin and I wish you all many blessings..."Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, the hills of the Highlands forever I love."

I stayed just one night as I was at a business conference in Shelby. I had been impressed with Marti even before meeting him - just how he handled our phone calls and even giving a call that morning that our rooms (2) were ready ahead of check-in. I stayed in the Nature and Earth room and found it very accommodating and serene, down to the smallest appointments. Breakfast blew me away from homemade sausage and cold cereal - even the ketchup was homemade for the potatoes. He made us shamrock pancakes since it was right before St. Patrick's Day, as well as a warm tangerine and lemon syrup. A huge selection of Presidential memorabilia awaits. I've stayed at many B&B's before, this was a first without my husband. It was a little different but Marti made me fell right at home!

My husband and I decided to take a very small late anniversary trip this year. Â We just bought a house so the budget was tight. Â I bought a Living Social to The Inn of the Patriotists and decided to take a chance on a new destination. Â Our one night stay came with two free wine tastings at two different vineyards (Owl's Eye and Baker Buffalo Creek), a Cider Flight at the local wine market, a free dessert, and a free appetizer. Â You really can't beat this deal!! We went to the Vineyards on Saturday and arrived at about 5:00pm at the Inn. Â Kim greeted us and showed us around the place. Â It was very easy to check in. Â We stayed in the Baby Ruth Room. Â There is a private toilet room and then a separate private shower. Â They were both very small but, we knew this ahead of time. Â The room was quiet and peaceful. Â There is a beautiful front porch if you want to relax and enjoy some wine or tea. Â
Breakfast the next morning was wonderful. We also enjoyed the tour of the inn with Marti. Â He loved giving us a history lesion which I very much appreciated. Â The little insights were wonderful. Â He was very animated. Â I also love that they want to help disabled veterans. Â Shelby is about 20 minutes away with a cute downtown area with a brewery, wine market, and some other cute restaurants and shops. Â We also hiked Crowder's Mountain on Sunday. Â If you like the outdoors then that is a great spot. Â Â We truly had a great one night weekend getaway. - Hashani S.Lafayette, LA52561210385/2/2016
Marti and Stormy really outdid themselves here! We had a wonderful last minute getaway at the Inn of the Patriots last week and can't wait to return. This was our first bed and breakfast experience and we had a blast. I had called in prior to our check in to discuss the details of the stay as well as the cooking class we purchased a groupon for, Marti was very helpful when discussing terms and local attractions. We walked in around 6p (I love that there are rocking chairs with comfy blankets on the front porch), the front door and room doors have keypad locks, which is nice, we didn't have to bother any one going in and out of the inn. The Inn of the Patriots does allow you to BYOB (they have a little fridge as well), I will be bringing better wine as they have openers and all other supplies for a little boozy fun. The entire inn is covered with little historical tidbits, was fun reading everything.
We stayed in the Babe Ruth Room, I loved the color!. The bed was amazing, I literally wanted to take it home. Best sleep in a long time. Everything was extremely clean, something I've always feared about BnBs. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, Chef Marti even made homemade ketchup. The cooking class we took was also very fun and informative, I will be making his recipes from now on. Especially the pizza gravy, yum!
As far as restaurants and activities go, they are a little drive away. Shelby is about 20 minutes out and that's where you'll find Chef Marti's wine bar and restaurant, Ni Fen. The winery with complimentary tastings is further north. But, this is all stated on the website...which people should browse through before getting upset. All in all, great stay, great place! Will be back for more quiet time and cool cooking classes. Cheers! - Sandy B.Charlotte, NC36110/12/2015
I couldn't bring myself to write this review back when I visited as I truly believe "Chef Marti" truly thinks he has a wonderful establishment and that people are really enjoying themselves. I can only guess how many complaints Groupon got about this totally misrepresented "vacation spot". Did you notice all the "funny" votes on the five star reviews? That's because they were no doubt written by Marti or his wife. We expected a sumptuous "White House" dinner the night we spent there (does anyone REALLY stay both nights?). We were told that due to the Groupon the place was filling up very quickly so we better book right away. We did, and when we showed up for the weekend NOBODY was there except "Chef Marti", his wife and child. Yes, he's a kind man, we just believe he's delusional and highly doubt he ever made White House clearance. Then again, look at who some of our presidents have been. Back to dinner, we asked Marti what was on the menu for the evening and he answered "oh, we don't have a restaurant here, we'll give you a list of those within driving distance". Huh? NO RESTAURANT?? We ended up driving 25 minutes to a pizza café in Shelby. A group of bridesmaids were having a blast at the table next to us and we started a chat. They asked what brought us to Shelby, they all grew up there and knew almost everyone there. They were hysterical about Inn of the Patriots. They said they never heard of it or of Grover, NC. When we got back to the Inn there was a middle aged couple rocking away on the porch. I said "well, I guess the crowd is showing up!". The woman answered, "what crowd, until you arrived nobody else was here". I then asked if they had a clue about breakfast and she said "we're not hanging around long enough to find out, we're leaving in a few minutes. What on earth brought YOU here?" Told her about the Groupon and she said "yeah, same situation here". There was a very sweet black lady who prepared breakfast.  A nice yogurt parfait, some pancakes. . .and a breakfast meat she called sausage (I was sure it was SPAM). My husband refused to taste it, I couldn't stop myself.  There were no chocolate strawberries, no winery tours - not even a tour of the backyard Revolutionary(?) war camp. That was quite a site to behold. I'm betting that camp has been there since the Revolutionary war. All in all, quite the experience! We did have a lot of fun telling folks about our special Groupon trip - that's something to be said, yes?

This is a fake review posted as we do not have a "black lady" that works here.  Our world awards and being featured on CNN, PBS, CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC are wonderful and true.  Part of the problem with YELP is they do not verify reviews with a real proof of purchase, receipt or actual person that  stayed at our inn.  For the public, please be advised this is a fake review from a competitor.

We went to the "Inn of The Patriots" after purchasing a groupon. We stayed in the Grover Cleveland Room on the first floor of the Inn. It was quite large and the king size bed was comfortable. It even had a foot massage machine. We enjoyed breakfast each day, but my favorite dish was the chocolate waffles with the cherry sauce. It was fun to enjoy breakfast at a big table for all the guests at 9 am.
