Cheers to one of my new favorite breakfast spots!! Thank you fellow Yelpers for leading me to this gem!
When I arrived, we parked out back for free, no problems there. We went into the restaurant, and put our name on the list. Yes, there was a 45 minute to an hour wait, which I was fully prepared for based on reading everyone else's reviews. The service/food was definitely worth the wait!
We sat down and ordered a sangria and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is made with cream and water, topped off with whipped cream, o.m.g.!!! I haven't had hot chocolate in so long, and this cup was DELICIOUS! The sangria was also perfectly made.
We ordered the cinnabon french toast, eggs, potatoes, salmon patties, pancakes and sausage. I left SO stuffed! The french toast was thick, sweet, and perfectly made. The eggs were just eggs, nothing special there. The potatoes were soft, yet flavorful. I like my breakfast potatoes a little crunchy, so I wasn't in love with these. The salmon patties were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Lastly, the pancakes... they were dense as I cut into them, which made me nervous, but my gosh, they were sooo good!! The perfect pancake for sure!
Our waitress and the rest of the restaurant staff were so engaging, so attentive, and ultra pleasant. I was so pleased! Pair that with the paintings on the walls (which are for sale if interested), and I say this was an awesome brunch experience!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 211264525Jun 23, 2019
I love love love that this place is black owned. I love the artwork and some pieces are even for sale. I also love the music and the R&B that flows in the background while you're eating lunch. I love that people who work here seems so dedicated and in tune. And one guy even looks like Chance the Rapper although I'm positive it's not him.
On to the food.
I have been here twice. Once a few years ago and then again this weekend. This time I got the Chakara's breakfast. It consisted of eggs, sausage, and potatoes or grits (I got both). The sausage seem to be a little heavy with sage, but I like sage so it wasn't a big deal. It should also be noted that their is no pork allowed. The highlight of my breakfast was honestly the grits and the potatoes. The grits were so creamy and so flavorful it really didn't need the cheese I had added. The potatoes are cooked perfectly seasoned perfectly - with what I don't know but it was perfect.
I will note that in reading some of the reviews I noticed a trend that I too experienced. The owner seemed to only check on the white customers not really the black ones. It was a little offputting but it wouldn't stop me from going back. But I'll probably check for it every time I go now.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 23, 2017
I have tried to eat at garden brunch cafe a few time but have never had to patience to wait behind all the other eager brunch goers who know how great this place is. Today I went to garden brunch with the thought that there wouldn't be a wait because it was pouring rain and the day before Christmas Eve. I was right and finally got to get my garden brunch fix. I AM SO HAPPY I FINALLY GOT TO EAT HERE.
I ordered the poinsettia mimosa, Germantown West Benny and coffee. I have no regrets as everything was fantastic. Next time I go back I want to try the bananas foster pancakes bc oh my god they looked good. I felt at home at gardens brunch surrounded by fantastic friendly staff in a former house decorated with artwork by local artists. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
There is a parking lot in the back, be prepared to wait during peak brunch hours but it's worth it. Pro tip: they open at 9am!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Averie W.Nashville, TN12639Feb 16, 2020
This is a fantastic little restaurant.
Located on Jefferson street you'd pass it if you didn't hard enough. Needless to say, it's a hidden gem.
The food was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. Staff were attentive and walking around tending to the needs of all customers.
To be on the safe said bring cash and have a card on you. Also, get there early the line starts forming 10 to 15 minutes before doors open. Overall, I'll be going back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 2596151861Dec 2, 2017
GBC in North Nashville was an amazing gem! I loved it! It's styled like a pretty large one level house. So there is that home style feel. I even saw an old school fireplace in one room. Really nice southern decor. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and put our names on the list. It was pretty packed. There was a 45 minute wait but luckily they have a small 4 person bar area. We saw 2 open seats and walked right to the bar. It's first come first served.
The service was great. Even the owners were walking around greeting people. I tried the southern pecan coffee. Nice flavor but it was pretty weak. Maybe it was a function of whoever made the coffee.
I ordered the classic garden breakfast, two scrambled eggs, wheat toast, cheese grits, and 2 turkey sausage patties (all of their breakfast meat is turkey). The breakfast was phenomenal. The sausage was a standout, it was really tasty and it seemed hand pattied. The cheese grits were piping hot and had a nice saltiness to them! I would certainly go back here but be prepared to wait!
There is parking on the back side of the restaurant near the church.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 330952003Nov 19, 2017
This is a local mom and pop shop in the middle of Nashville. As soon as you walk in, you feel a combination of soul and jazz... The art on the wall is phenomenal, and it's obvious that the owner supports the local artists here in Nashville.
We were greeted by a nice hostess who put our name on the list. It's a first come first serve type of deal, so don't try calling in to make a reservation. Heads up, parking is also sort of limited (at the back of the restaurant), so you might have to park on the side of the one way street in the back. If you wanna get ahead of your game, check out their menu online, but don't be fooled by their prices! I was sort of shocked at the price difference at first, but after I finished my meal, my belly said it was worth every pretty penny.
I ordered the blackened fish (tilapia) and grits with a side order of potatoes, while my boyfriend ordered the meat lovers omelette. We literally sat there in silence, devouring our plates. That's how we like it! Usually at restaurants we have the salt and pepper shaker ready in hand, but to our shock, none of the plates needed the additional seasoning. He pointed out the fennel seed in the turkey sausage, which I also agree was the perfect touch.
As a coffee lover and enthusiast, I felt like the southern pecan coffee was a little weak for my liking. Either way, I asked for a to-go cup because something about the little sweet note made it the perfect dessert. Plus, shoutout to Malcom for being a great server and making sure I had freshly brewed coffee to go!
The wait is long, but absolutely worth it. The service was top notch, and I'll definitely be back! Just a heads up, they're only open Fri-Sun from 9am-2pm... so plan accordingly, yeah?! :)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2017
Worth the wait I'm serious. We waited for an hour and it was worth it so if you're considering walking out, don't! I ordered the pecan pancakes with turkey bacon and scrambled eggs. There was no need for syrup because those babies were glazed with a homemade sauce that made the pecans sing! The eggs are quality and so is the turkey bacon.
The place is cozy and family owned which is so nice because we met the owner. She comes and greets tables and I love a personal touch. This place is a true gem. I want them to expand and be open more than just weekends and get better AC. I'll tell you that I sweated the entire time I ate and could care less, that's how good the food is!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jun 25, 2017
Words can't describe how much my husband and I enjoyed our brunch on Father's Day. I visited Garden Brunch Cafe (GBC) pre-Yelp approximately four years ago and have been itching to revisit since. Thankfully the food is as good as I remembered.
Wait time experience:
As we pulled up we noticed people sitting on the front porch, some standing on the sidewalk, and others waiting in their cars. We lucked up and found a parking spot in the back of the restaurant. The hostess took my name and said 30 minutes but I knew that it would be longer.
Tip1: Don't go starving because you will wait, eat a small snack to curb hunger pains.
Tip 2: Drink a mimosa while you wait.
I enjoyed my mimosa while engaging in good conversation with the staff and other patrons.
2 HOURS later we were seated.
Tip 3: Look through the menu online or grab one as you wait, so you can order as soon as you are seated.
Our server was extremely busy and apologized for the wait as he took our drink and food orders.
I ordered the highly recommended/rated Banana Fosters Pancakes with scrambled eggs and sausage. My husband ordered the Fish and Grits. We shared a Spongebob Carafe (Pineapple Mimosa).
Our food came out hot and was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed every bite!
It is a family owned resteraunt that reminds me so much of New Orleans- the decor, good southern hospitality from the patrons and staff, and great food. It is worth the wait but it you adhere to the tips above you will have a good experience as well.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - Sep 8, 2017
Wow! The Garden Cafe is a must when in Nashville, but here's how to do it right:
- go on Friday! The restaurant is only open Friday-Sunday, and apparently it's a mad house on sat and sun. We went on Friday around 10 am and were seated right away. They do not take reservations.
- order one of the "house favorites" (your server will tell you and it's notated on the menu) - I would ESPECIALLY recommend the Bananas Foster pancakes. I mean, good God. They were so good it was practically a religious experience. Comes with 2 eggs any way and turkey sausage/bacon or ham, and I can vouch for the perfectly seasoned sausage. Yum yum yum.
- i also ordered a Bloody Mary, and although the taste and spice was great, the size is teeny compared to other BM's I've ordered. It came in a petite little mimosa flute! I was disappointed, but instead of taking away a star, I'm just warning you ahead of time to either skip alcohol and save money, or go ahead and expect a tiny $7 drink. (Maybe the mimosa carafe is more bang for your buck?)
To reiterate - I died and went to bananas foster heaven, and would come back hungry in a heartbeat. Everyone was very friendly too, I liked that they all seem really invested in the place's mission, to serve whole and healthy (or as healthy as it can be) brunch!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Noni C.Reynoldsburg, OH2473484Sep 23, 2019
Came here on a Saturday for brunch during a bachelorette weekend. We arrived around 10am. Had about a 30 min wait for 5 people. The place was busy and I now understand why. Breakfast and brunch is one of my favorite dining occasions. They knock it out of the park.
A few started with a flavored coffee that they raved about (sorry I can't recall the name). I tried to do a keto friendly order but blew it. I had the spinach and feta omelet and added turkey ham). It came with red potatoes and toast. I also added turkey bacon. Please note, they do not serve pork however I did not miss it. The the turkey ham in the omelet tasted just like pork ham. The omelet was perfect! I had to eat the potatoes since they were on my plate after all lol They were soooo good! Seasoned perfectly. Others ordered the blackened fish with grits OMG so tasty!! The bananas foster pancakes are a must try! Worth evert calorie! Lol They were out of the salmon cakes by 10am on a Saturday! Safe to say I'll be back to try those.
Overall service: 5/5
Food: 5/5 and that's for everything I tried. No one had any food left on their platesHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
