Good Food
Crowded - generally a good sign. Definitely a whiskey bar with an impressive menu as well. Many dishes and cocktails tend to favor sweet tastes (several things both food and drink with maple syrup for instance) or bacon. Cocktails are good but on average will set you back about $12. Tables are standard pub style. Not too noisy. Comfortable seating. I had the steak special ($32) with mashed potatoes, asparagus, gravy. Steak was excellent - gravy not so good. Apps ordered Calamari and Sticky ribs appetizer were very good. Stuffed quahog was well made.
Service was good but slow and she had to be asked twice for a couple of things. The décor is nice and the bar is fairly large. Plan on returning as there are other items on the menu that sound interesting.

Had lunch here on the 23rd of December with a large group. The restaurant had plenty of space and though it was large it had a cozy atmosphere.
Our table was set up for us when we arrived and the staff was fabulous and the service was excellent. Very attentive to our wishes and desires.
The food was just as spectacular. My appetizer was the candid bacon, which is simply delicious. I had a mouthwatering chicken cordon bleu with rice and mixed vegetables. It was a large portion and very filling. For dessert I had a creme brulee that was just right.
Others had prime rib, mussels, scallops, hamburgers and everyone raved about the whiskey mashed potatoes.
So if you haven't been to the Charred Oak Tavern you should definitely put it on your radar for 2024.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenny F.Abington, MA13515Dec 7, 2023Updated review

Back again, feeling like a burger. My friend had the Charred Oak burger but I took a walk on the wild animal side! The Huntsman boasts exotic elk, bison,
wagyu, wild boar, & cheddar cheese. Our server, Zack, was attentive and informative. I loved the meaty taste of my burger but felt it was missing something--A1 steak sauce? Zack suggested some bourbon bbq sauce. It was very sweet and didn't do it for me but I appreciated his efforts. Definitely needed something savory. The mac and cheese side was a delicious cheese bomb! Didn't have room for dessert or any of the many cocktails, but I'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 25, 2023Previous reviewWalked in early on a Saturday night and got right in. Sat on the bar side, which was vibrantly hopping. This is a neighborhood restaurant bar that caters to serious whiskey/scotch/bourbon drinkers. There is an extensive list that includes some specialty flights and rare/allocated offerings. There are plenty of cocktails and you know the bartenders are able to make all the classics. Many patrons partook of multiple tipples! The appetizer menu was the most intriguing and I could just sit with a drink and several apps in lieu of a meal.
Our server, Katie, was very attentive and checked back often with extra napkins & drink refills. I had the fish tacos with very crispy fries--the portion was very generous. My only issue was that the large, rough chop of the red onion was overpowering in the salsa. But delicious nonetheless. My friend had the shaved prime rib French Dip, also decently sized for the price. No room for dessert on this trip! - Nov 8, 2023
I'm from California, but visit Massachusetts often as my parents live here. I rely on Yelp to help me find good eats. I'm truly happy I came across this restaurant because it'll definitely be on my line up each visit.
It was my second time here and the food and ambience did not disappoint. I ordered the charred maple bourbon glazed salmon with broccoli and bourbon glazed carrots. I gave my meal a 10/10. My dish was very flavorful and perfectly made. I also tried the ribs and fish tacos. The rib meat was tender and delicious. Fell off the bone delicious. Although the fish tacos were good they were nothing special for me personally. Remember, I'm from California.
Highly recommend this restaurant. It's a unique looking place. Clean. Staff is great.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2024Updated review
Excellent excellent dinner at Charred Oak yesterday. Seated quickly, great server (Alissa?), terrific food. I ordered a side Caesar salad... it was large, fresh, tasty. Took half of it to-go. For my meal, steamed mussels and linguine. It,too, was large, yummy. Took half of it home, too. They were a nice Saturday brunch!

Ordered a Manhattan on the rocks; G had riesling. They arrived quickly; mine was very good. We both started with soup: G had the du jour, broccoli-cheddar; I ordered the chowder. And I must tell you: it was GREAT! I've had chowder hundreds of places, but I liked COT's better than any I've ever had. G's broccoli-cheddar was OK. For her meal, G had vegan pad thai and said it was "meh." I had the grilled romaine salad: it was good.

We sat at the bar- there's an overwhelming choice of whiskeys, Ryes, Bourbons, Scotches. The bartender Amber was immediately attentive- but got us waters as we tried to decide. She asked us what we liked and then created our drinks within our flavor palate- which was tres cool- and she hit on the mark. Their food selections had great variety as well. We went with a peach and goat cheese salad- the peaches were unavailable so they sub with strawberries- it was still tasty, with cransins, candied pecans, balsamic glaze and dressing. We tried chicken tenders with bang bang sauce on the side...very juice, with a crunchy outside. We tried the special take on street corn- corn riblets slightly breaded, with sauce and cheese- yummy, but tricky to navigate.

DO NOT EVER BUY A GIFT CSRD HERE! I purchased one for $100.00 and a few days later I scanned the back and it said $0.00! I looked at card activity online and it said it was last used in Connecticut for $50.00! Then I called them and they said "oh, ya don't worry about that!" it will be good when you come in! It is a damn gift card that I am giving someone for a gift!!!!! if they scan the back it says $0.00 balance! I spoke to the General manager Ericka and she had no comment! She said if you want your money back come in and I will give it to you! I m trying to wrap my head around why they would do something like this! I think it's time for IRS AUDIT!!!!!! They should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!
