The Back Porch has been a family favorite for many years, but Easter dinner on Sunday was a true disappointment for us. Salad was good but we miss the basket of fresh bread and muffins (they even used to serve apple butter, but not for years now); the small rolls were just OK. Menu was standard but the only seafood option was scallops or salmon added to a salad or entree....what happened to the walnut salmon small plate? We had an underwhelming plate of pasta with soupy vodka sauce and a tiny, thin, dried piece of grilled salmon on the side.
Service was loud and snippy, when I said I thought the pasta was penne, the reply was "No, spaghetti". Sides used to come with an entree and we were not advised that the ala carte sides were large enough to share but heard a neighboring table being told, after we ordered.
Altogether a disappointing visit this time and we will think twice before returning, which makes us sad.

After stopping at a few restaurants that were closed or overcrowded, I had heard The Back Porch had a downstairs that was a Speakeasy at one time. No reservations were needed. What a great surprise. Spectacular ambiance and a friendly bar tender. Got a seat at the bar and ordered the recommended specialty, ribs. They were fantastic, cooked just right and a delicious sauce. I wouldn't call it BBQ Sauce but their concoction of ingredients that all melded into a great taste. Naturally I sparked up conversations with other patrons of the bar, and it proved to a really friendly mix of people. A great find, by accident and a definite return to place. The menu looks very fancy but the food ends up 5 stars.

My favorite restaurant in the Mon Valley! Beautiful ambiance, great food, & great service.
On a side note: Their Yelp menu isn't accurate so be sure to check their website before visiting!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Connie M.Leechburg, PA291Mar 3, 2024
Cocktails. Speaking to management they pour the industry standard of one ounce per cocktail. Manhattans and Martinis have three ounces.
When we fine dine, we enjoy a good cocktail. We didn't experience that when visiting the Back Porch. Service and food was good. However we look at the total experience.
Two stars for the cocktails. Three stars for food. Service four stars.
Follow up with management one star.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1137913119Oct 18, 2022
I've always wanted to have dinner here, this restaurant has always been known for being one of the nicest establishments in the area. We decided to come in on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday.
Our experience wasn't what I hoped that it would be. I turned to Yelp first which had certain menu items listed but when we arrived the restaurant no longer had the eggplant Parmesan, or the duck. I loved sitting at our secluded table but once our waitress had a big table come in we were completely forgotten about for what seemed like an eternity.
The food itself was a big miss. I ordered the mushroom Florentine , and my husband had the scallops. My pasta entree was large, but lacked any flavor at all. The sauce was very watered down, and I had a difficult time eating much of it. My husband said his scallops were good, but at the price point there should have been more. The menu highlighted the scallops as jumbo, which wasn't the case.
At the end of the evening we were very ready to leave, and didn't have dessert.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2022
Phenomenal place from start to finish. Decorations beautiful for Christmas. Appetizers were amazing. Waitress was excellent. Main entree's were excellent for our entire party of 10 people. Definitely looking forward to returning. It's 45 minutes for us but it's worth the travel. Highly recommended. Enjoy.

I've eaten here maybe 6 times over the years and I love it. It's a little far-removed but we'll worth the drive. Such a cute, cozy brick farmhouse with fireplaces; very homey & welcoming. My favorite dish was the pasta American but I think it may no longer be on the menu. Hope to be able to go back someday although I no longer live in PGH.

I love good ol places and this one was a gem! The rustic feel and the whole feel of dining in a 200plus year old place occupied a special place in my heart. Service was top notch and the food was too good to be true. We got the Lobster Bisque, baby back ribs, mushroom pasta with chicken and the lemon parm chicken. For dessert we had the crème brûlée. Everything was top notch and we loved it
