My favorite place with my favorite people. I've been trusting my hair here since 2013 and I am continually impressed by both Thadra and Kaylynn. Extensions, color, blow outs, you name it and I've had it done here! This is the salon for you if you're looking for something exclusive, luxurious and personable!

I needed a unit removed after the last stylist ghosted me for some strange reason from (beauty personified) I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there! I paid over $1000 for a unit and when it was time to remove it because the hair was coming out of it!! she completely ignored my messages! and I won't forget that!...I am so glad I found Thadra She is awesome very friendly, very professional. She knows what she's doing. Thanks so much Thadra! I will be seeing you again soon!

I really enjoyed our time together.

With so many changes in 2020, I thought I would update my review for one of my favorite locally owned and operated businesses in Louisville. I have been going to Thadra's for about 3 years now and I cannot say enough great things. First all, the salon is adorable. It is clean, cute, and safe during Covid. Thadra has you wait in your car- call the salon number when you arrive to get the ok to come in. Your temperature will be taken, hands washed and masks worn. Extremely professional.
Thadra and Kaylynn have both colored by hair and it is perfection. I never let salons touch my color because it is super blonde and I want it to be healthy and not brassy. Thadra and Kaylynn both know exactly how to treat my platinum blonde hair and it is healthier than ever.
Now for the great stuff- hair extensions. I have played around with clip in extensions for years and always wanted the real deal. After getting pricing around town and reading reviews- Thadra's was by far the best choice. I started with tape in extensions almost 3 years ago and loved them. I have since upgraded to the newer method of hand-tied. If you are interested in hair extensions, they offer a free consultation to match your hair color, talk about length, etc
Thadra's Hair Cafe is truly a wonderful salon for hair cuts, color, blow-outs, extensions, men's hair, kids hair and more.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

Amy, thank you so much for your for your kind words and continued business. Both Kaylynn and I always look forward to seeing you at the salon. I am glad you appreciate our safety protocols at the salon. We want all our clients to feel as safe as possible during this stressful time.
Now to the good stuff, your hair is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for trusting us with it. I am very proud of the health and beauty of you long locks.Apr 9, 2018Previous reviewI wish I could give Thadra 10 stars! I went in to get my hair extensions installed last Saturday and the process went seamlessly!
First, as I mentioned in my previous review, Thadra's Hair Cafe is the most adorable salon. It is bright and fresh and relaxing. She always has treats around and there is no feeling of being rushed. When I was there last Saturday, it was just Thadra and myself so I had that nice one on one attention.
I came in with clean, dry hair and we immediately got to work putting the tape-in extensions on my hair. The process only took about an hour and felt too easy to be real. After the hair was all in, Thadra straightened it and took some photos and then curled it and took some photos. She made fixing it seem so simple. I felt like a princess.
About 10 days has gone by and I absolutely love my hair! I have gotten so many compliments from complete strangers. I know this hair is going to make my wedding day that much more special too. I have already gotten the hang of styling it.Mar 2, 2018Previous reviewI am so thankful for Yelp- otherwise I may not have found Thadra's Hair Cafe!
I love playing around with clip-in hair extensions but have never had the "real deal" that stays in for months. Our wedding is coming up and I really want to go for it and have long, flowing gorgeous hair. I called around and did some online research and was not impressed by what I found. But, then, I found Thadra! She had some wonderful reviews and I even reached out to GIna B. about her hair extensions and she said Thadra was the best!
I had a complimentary consultation two weeks ago and I am happy to say my real human hair, tape in extensions have been ordered and I have an appointment to have them "installed" at the end of the month. I am over the moon excited. Thadra's Hair Cafe is such a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Have you ever been to one of those crazy salons where 10 different stylist are running around all over the place, it is loud and you feel rushed? Well- not here! it is calm and she gladly takes her time to understand exactly what your needs and wants are. Her pricing is very reasonable and way better than several places I contacted.
I can't wait to do my review update with photos after my extensions are in on March 31st! Stay tuned. - Carolyn D.Bradenton Beach, FL0314Jun 28, 2021
Great hair cut especially for my thin-ish / fine hair that's transitioning from damaged blond highlights to just what it is - plain hair.
Got a rather pricey repair treatment (Olaplex 1 I think) and it did a good job.
My stylist had a lot of interruptions during the appointment for things like answering the phone, the door and general questions from others in the shop. This added time to my appointment length that I would have preferred not to have spent. May have been due to lack of a receptionist. May be a COVID thing. Hope this resolves itself.
Anyway, I will go back because, after all, it's really about the stylists skill and she was very good at the haircut.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Emory B.Louisville, KY432166221Dec 21, 2021Updated review
Since initially coming here for a teacher deal, I have been coming here exclusively for haircuts. I always request to see Kaylynn. She is very sweet, makes you feel comfortable, and does a good job.

Honestly, this place is fantastic! I have seen Kaylynn twice now, and I love her! She is so so friendly and welcoming. She listens to what you want and makes it happen. This visit, I was in a little bit of a panic because I had a flight to catch. She was able to get me in early and took perfect care of me. My hair looks amazing, and I don't have to worry about being late to the airport. The prices are great, and they are always running really amazing specials if you follow them on social media. I'll definitely be back here for future hair needs

After having a bad experience somewhere else with bleaching my hair, I decided to try out Thadra's since it has great reviews and was near my home. Easily enough, it lived up to my expectations! It is very easy to schedule an appointment and can get in fairly quick here, and the service is speedy while also high quality.
I had Thadra and Kaylynn switching off taking care of me, and they are both great and very friendly. They were very knowledgable on how to treat bleached hair and did it with ease. They also offer quite a lot of different services too. The inside of the salon is so adorable too, it looks like it came straight out of Pinterest!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, and glad I've found somewhere to make my regular salon!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0Business owner information

I am now 1 month out from the worst hair disaster I've ever experienced in my life at Thadra's Hair Cafe. My long naturally curly hair was thinned out & layered in the back without my permission when what I thought I was getting was a trim. This was AFTER I had already been in for a consultation with Thadra describing exactly what I wanted for my hair. I explicitly said No thinning. She seemed to understand that request. She even said at the consultation that I seemed like a " you have beautiful hair" kind of person instead of a " you have a cute hair cut" kInd of person. We agreed at my consultation that my hair didn't need & nor did I want a big chop. However at my appointment where I got my root color touched up & an Olaplex treatment ( which I've since realized by seeing someone at a different ssalon) I didn't actually need either... any way after that she asked if I wanted it cut . I said sure because I knew a healthy trim of the ends wouldn't hurt.
WE HAD ALREADY discussed that I didn't want a big chop so I had no idea she was slicing in layers & texturizing my hair! She chopped pieces off in the crown trying to create volume that varied between 1.5 inches and 3 inches away from my scalp plus added choppy layers. Any where from 6 to 13 inch segments were taken from my hair!!!
If you know anything at all about naturally curly hair & specifically Caucasian FINE naturally curly hair, this will DESTROY this type of hair. It will shatter the curl pattern & create massive frizz!!!! Now my hair will not clump together at all to form curls and my ready thinning hair is even thinner! I am 52 years old in menopause but I am very healthy & have taken exceptional care of my hair. I have been growing my hair long for the past 4 years and had finally achieved my goal length. Blended layers toward the bottom & on the sides is what I had & should have kept but instead she took it upon herself ( without telling me) to add short layers in the back while keeping the sides long.
THEN while she left me to go do someone else's hair she had her assistant/ receptionist come over and put PIN CURLS in my hair. What!?? Pin curls in my naturally curly hair & then she stuck my under a hot hair dryer while she continued to do someone else's hair!
I still had not realized what had been done to me but I was certainly feeling unsettled as the metal pins on top of my head were starting to burn my head.
The top of my long hair was dry & starting to burn while the ends & sides were still damp.
She took me back to the chair & she and her assistant started taking the pin curls out.
So... yea my hair held the now artificial curls from the pins.. my naturally curly hair holds a curl- duh!
But those curls didn't match the natural curl that I had in the other parts of my hair.
The charge for the root touch up, Olaplex treatment, cut & style was $154. I even tipped her 20% because I still didn't understand what she had done. I still assumed she had just trimmed it. I did not like the style or sitting under a dryer but was trying to be positive. I was wasn't until I got home and I started looking at it and the next day I tried to style it myself that i realized the horror that was now my hair.
When I went back a week later to show her what went wrong she just said she was sorry I didn't like it & that she wasn't the stylist for me. I'd rather have my 4 years of hair growth back than the refund.
I now will have no choice but to cut my hair even shorter and go back to blowing it out. I got to enjoy my long naturally curly hair for 2 months before this devastating experience. I chose Thadra's salon after looking at reviews and she gained my trust after the consultation. However as she and her assistant were finishing up my hair that day I was getting suspicious when she didn't know what a gel cast is & didn't understand what I meant when I saiid I was staying away from dimethicone for my curly hair.
Many people just don't bother writing reviews from a life altering bad experience. I am here to tell you I if you have naturally curly hair or especially fine naturally curly/ wavy hair.. do not go here.
A stylist should never take liberties when cutting someone's hair and any cuts should be explained before hand. That was not the Case here! When I told I hadn't come there so her receptionist/ assistant could do my hair she just said that's how she does business. What she did was work me in between 2 other appointments.
What's done waS done and at least wanted her to learn from her mistake so she doesn't do it to someonne else but instead she got defensive. When I called to speak with her, her receptionist just hung up on me. I've been going to Thadra for about 3 years. Thadra is a true master of her craft. I initially came for advice on whether purchasing a hair piece would help with my thinning hair problem. Thadra opened my eyes to the wonders of hair extensions. I am beyond thrilled with my new hair! It looks so natural, no one would ever guess it wasn't my real hair!!
She now has a beautiful new salon on Blankenbaker. Besides being very talented, Thadra is a really good person who's main goal in life is to make her clients happy.
Give her a try, it'll be the best decision you make all week!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Gina B.Louisville, KY4192Mar 5, 2019
I've been wearing tape in extensions for just over 4 years with Thadra and decided that the time had come for me to part with them. My hair has continued to thin because of genetic hair loss (thanks Mom) and I was finding it more difficult to hide the tapes and my bangs were ridiculously thin. My thinking was to undergo a laser hair regrow system, which required I remove them. I was soooo nervous to take them out. I was afraid of what I would look like with this thin hair. I even bought a wig in advance "just in case". Well, Thadra, removed the extensions and then proceeded to do what she does best. I closed my eyes and put my faith in her adept hands and POOF, it was a MAGIC!!
I LOVE MY NEW HAIRCUT!! It is just adorable, sassy, sexy and no one would ever know how unbelievably thin my hair is. Thadra is a miracle worker.! My hair looks healthy, strong, and just flat out gorgeous! Thank you so much and to Kaylynn for her added support.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gulfira A.ELMHURST, NY721Jun 28, 2019
WOW!!! I mean...wow. Thadra sauer made my hair look the best it's ever looked, she's a true master. I've been to many well known salons and I've never had a better stylist. She can look at any picture you show her, analyze and nail it. Thadra's Hair Cafe is Excellent choice if you're looking for a beautiful blonde, or any gorgeous color for that matter. Not only is she kind and considerate but she will make sure you get exactly what you're looking for. Never disappoints! I don't think I've written a yelp review in years, but when someone is that good, you just have to pay it forward. Everyone at the salon is lovely and they made me feel so pampered and beautiful. If you ever need a blowout or a cut and color while your in the Louisville KY CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! IT'S WORTH IT!
