This is definitely a hidden gem! Very small location, I'm not even sure it is still open!
Food was extremely tasty and the service was great! Definitely a cute breakfast spot!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 1, 2019
A promising local mom + pop. Very small unassuming place, barely 7 tables in a very tight layout- a business in their beginning stages (open two months as of our visit). Service was excellent. When ordering burgers and sandwiches, fries are an additional $3, but process are still pretty fair. Homemade sauces and butter. Disappointed that they ran out of a few things (although it should be noted that we did get there late, about an hour before their 3 PM daily close time)- we were not able to try their curled fries or their house jam. We did receive some waffle fries instead, and their hibiscus butter was tasty. Drinks were fountain, nothing special there.
Chicken for *Chicken + Waffles was scrumptious. Slightly crispy on the outside, warm and tender on the inside. Waffle made in house, and you will be able to tell. *House Omelette was pretty good (nothing special, eggs could have been fluffier), but actually liked the diced house fries better than the main dish. The *Philly Cheese Steak sandwich comes on Texas toast; meat is tender and juicy. Onions grilled seperately from the peppers, Danny (owner) told us. Tried the *Mexican Burger with Mushrooms. Loved the thick cut ham; it did not come with lettuce as the menu indicated? The patty was honestly a little dry, but the cheese and moist bun mostly made up for that.
I asked Danny how their name came to be, and explained how in the beginning, the concept was to serve fresh Texas toast slices upon being seated, much like other establishments serve chips or house bread. Unfortunately, with the size of the kitchen and other financial concerns, they had to make some sacrifices. I have to say, it's a clever concept that I would have appreciated, but everyone has to start somewhere- here's an opportunity to support a small business so that some day soon they will be able to integrate their original vision for "Texas Toast"!
It's not perfect, but far better than most other more expensive places in town. but it's difficult for any establishment to survive in the harsh dining industry. Here's hoping Danny and his kind family of employees @ Texas Toast make it!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 2023801342Jul 27, 2019
Great little find. Parking is hard but they know that and take care of you even before you are seated. The wait wasn't too bad. And the water was greatly appreciated.
The service is prompt and the food was delicious. The waffle is not trying to be more than it is and is a great combination of light and dense. It has a nice crisp and the hibiscus butter was an outstanding addition. The chicken was crispy and juicy and again wasn't trying to hard. This place creates staples would would expect out of a "how to" cook book and doesn't try to be pretentious about it.
Love the Texas decor. Especially the yellow roses.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 1, 2019
The place is tiny, (eight small tables) but the food is amazing. I had the chicken and Texas waffle). The owner came by, and told us they came up with the spices that made the breading, so it has a unique flavor.
It's obvious that the food was made with thought, and love.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 15, 2019
What a wonderful place for breakfast! It's a small restaurant located in a renovated house. I ordered the country omelet with potatoes, Texas toast with hibiscus butter (sooooo good) and coffee. Victoria was our server. Talk about professional and attentive! Great food and top notch service...we'll be back! A special shout out to my friend and Yelpie Nickie B. for bringing us here.

Went today with my mom and normally I don't take her to try new places but I wanted her vote on this place. The wait was short as there was a large group of women who took up multiple tables. I wasn't impressed with the burger or fries. I did a Texas toast burger and asked for cheese fries and look at pic; it was just not that cheesy. Lastly, parking is scarce becareful backing out and last but not least the restroom is small, but the restaurant is way way small. Of all the things I hope the menu grows I then might attempt it again.

This tiny restaurant is a hidden gem! Service: from the minute we walked in we immediately felt welcomed. Our waitress was the owners sister and she was very nice. She took the time to explain the menu to us and didn't rush us on picking something.
Food: We decided to try a little bit of everything since it was our first time. We were not disappointed!!! My husband said this was the best omelette he's ever had. The bacon was super tasty! But the best thing by far was the waffle. The batter is definitely unique and delicious. We cannot wait to go back!!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jamie S.Vacaville, CA037Aug 29, 2019
Definitely the best chicken and waffles I have tried in San Antonio! Super moist, not dry chicken in the perfect batter fried to perfection and complimented with house made butter!
The owner is so passionate and is opening another location in south town.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 25, 2019
Super tasty! We ordered the chicken and waffle and a little wrangler breakfast for our little one. The waffle was light and soft and the chicken was crispy and juicy. I feel like we need to come back when they have the hibiscus butter in it's prime state. I asked for it because I have seen others rave about it, but I guess they ran out on a Sunday and brought some freshly made butter, but it was more like a warm schmear. Guess we have to come back! The sausage isn't your typical breakfast sausage, but rather a kielbasa type. The service was super friendly. They ran out of coffee a couple of times, but is a small and quaint shop. Glad to see something a little different on the south side of SA! Excited to come back!

I am giving Texas Toast ONLY a 4 star review because we did not get a waffle in the shape of Texas . However, it was tasty! Staff, chef and owner were GREAT! Super friendly local restaurant that has a lot of potential! My daughter had the chicken and waffle, in my opinion, it was a little heavy on the Thyme and was dark meat , I prefer white. Coffee was GREAT! I love dark & strong coffee ! We were informed that day was the 1st day trying that coffee. The homemade preserves were DELICIOUS! The Hibiscus Butter was delicious on their homemade biscuits!!
I even bought some to take home !
I had the Philly Sandwich with their fries. It was very meaty & cheesy and not too many peppers & onions, just like I like it! It does have a small seating area, but I would wait in line to eat there again! I cannot wait to go back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
