Nothing wrong with this place, nice atmosphere, good service but don't expect to much about the food. The 3 start go to the food. Today my wife had the salmon and shrimp and the risotto that comes with it, is not even closed to a risotto.

Good restaurant.
Been here a couple of times and both times the meals were good. We were in for lunch and I had their chicken riggies, and my wife had my their calamari po' boy sandwich. Both were very good.
Our server was top notch and did a nice job caring for our table.
The restaurant is interestingly decorated. They also have a full bar, although we didn't get drinks.
Good food, good service, nice vibe. We'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 21, 2022Previous reviewEven though we were really looking forward to our r first visit to Tavolo - it was a little disappointing.
The service was good (not great) and it's a pleasant vibe - we sat outdoors - but the traffic along Genesee St takes away from the overall experience. My feeling is that at a higher end restaurant service should be near perfect and the food should be mind blowingly good, which was not the case on either count.
We shared their Utica style greens (our server told us that they're the inventor of that dish) and were super happy. Great flavor, nice spice and kick, as expected.
Our meals weren't as good as we would have hoped. I had their NY strip steak and it was grizzly, although flavored properly. My wife had their shrimp and salmon meal and while she said the shrimp was really good; she also thought the salmon was lacking overall.
It could be we caught them on a bad night - it happens. But in the overall it was less than expected compared to what we had hoped for. Perhaps another visit will be better. - S M.New Hartford, NY1817Apr 10, 2024
Starting with the good; the service was excellent. We we seated fast and the wait staff was so friendly, attentive and kind.
The food was disappointing with the exception of the calamari. The burrata ravioli tasted microwaved with an ice cold blob of ricotta (I think) on top. The pasta purses were better than the ravioli but not super memorable.
Weird ambiance in the restaurant. Not sure if they are going for an urban city vibe or county.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 21, 2024
The vibe at this restaurant is fun and lots of energy! The decor has nostalgic notes and there are lots to see. We had a late reservation but the staff continued to to be attentive and accommodating. We appreciated their ability and willingness to split the check 3 ways! The food was all well-made and delicious! The pasta was fresh, not dried, and the bolognese had a lot of spicy sausage. The only surprise was the cocktail sauce that came with the fried calamari. I expected marinara since it was an Italian restaurant.

I went to Tavolo recently with 3 family members on a Friday night. I'd recommend reservations to be on the safe side. It was busy but not necessarily swamped. I got a new menu item, the hot honey salmon, and the others got chicken parmesan and a pizza. Everyone was happy with what they got, but my salmon was a bit overdone and it was missing an item on the dish. I asked about it and it was promptly brought out. I've had other menu items there before that were delicious, including the ravioli and the lasagna. It's a great place for date night, a night out with friends, or a family get together.

I am reviewing based on one dish take out while on a drive through to Buffalo. We had to stop for the Greens Morelle aka Utica Greens as famous by this place. They were interesting at first as i did not know exactly what to expect. First though was dry but then as you dig into the inner layers with meat and peppers you find a harmony with the escarole and breadcrumbs. My initial reaction was "oh this is the Italian version of how Brazilians use farofa on their black beans and such" because these breadcrumbs are more fine than normal Italian style breadcrumbs but it is a nice dish. The hostess was very pleasant. The place looks like somewhere I'd spend a nice lunch or evening outside as they have a very well decorated patio. Overall I'd go again and would not mind splitting the greens among friends!

"Something was definitely there
It was a time when things were good
I felt peace in the neighborhood"
(Paul McCartney)
When we were escorted to our table in the main dining room, I couldn't help but notice a big message painted on the upper wall over their open kitchen - "From the Old Neighborhood".
And that's exactly what Chesterfield's Tavolo reminded me of - a friendly informal unpretentious neighborhhod restaurant.
They have a large menu specializing in Italian foods -pizza, pasta, seafood, chicken and veal.
We started off with a complimentary serving of toasted cheese dusted bread and a fantastic marinara dipping sauce.
For our dinner, we split a salad and a pizza. Our Tavolo Salad ($14) was a generous portion of artisan lettuce, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, crispy onions, crumbled blue cheese, black olives, diced bacon, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was super fresh and excellent - plenty for us to share.
We went with a cheese pizza ($17) - eight slices with a thin crust, shredded mozzarella and marinara sauce. The pizza was very good.
We had a terrific meal that was very welcome after our drive from Toronto.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - 106446712Apr 6, 2023
Very clean decor and good food. Large portions, too. The calamari tasted frozen--but that's not to say it tasted bad. The garlic bread they start with was super tasty and our server asked if we wanted more without having to be prompted, which is always nice. Our food tasted great and was enough for a leftover lunch the next day. I was also impressed with the bathroom--super cute. It's the little details, am I right?

Have been twice and have enjoyed both meals. Casual dining experience and loved the outdoor seating. Looking forward to when they open the whole patio up. Nice to spend a relaxing afternoon or early dinner on the patio. Wait staff were exceedingly helpful and attentive. Loved the complimentary bread and sauce. Meals were good though the filet steak sandwich was a bit over cooked thought the 30 dollar price for a steak sandwich was steep but overall we enjoyed the food, service, ambiance, and experience. Looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend

the food is fantastic, service beyond compare. However, they don't know how to make a decent "Old Fashioned". very minor, but a restaurant of this caliber should know how to do it right!
