Arrived at noon on a Saturday and business was booming. Small building, small parking lot. Was met by a sweet waitress and promptly seated. I opted for menu service even though the buffet dominated the room. Located several blocks from the old downtown and about 5 miles from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the crowd was predominantly college students. The menu was massive and featured dishes from several regions of India. The owner welcomed me, answered all of my questions, and took my order. My chicken somosas arrived promptly with several dipping sauces, and the chicken Pulao was enough for two sittings. The mango juice was a pleasant and tasty surprise. Prices were fair, atmosphere pleasant, and Taste of India is on my list for my next visit to Monroe. Enjoy.

The food, service and entire staff are excellent!
We are passing through town and had the good fortune of experiencing this terrific restaurant. Incredible food!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marshall B.Calhoun, LA33129Jan 25, 2024
Man the food at this place is off the chain, so delicious! I choose a little of everything on the lunch buffet and each dish is just so dang delightful and tasty! If I had a choice of one place at which to dine every day, it would be A Taste of India in Monroe, LA.

Service is good, ambiance is not that fancy, diner type. Needs upgrade.
Food is mediocre. Tandoori lacks lot of flavor, just grilled chicken with color..... tikka masala, and butter chicken is just sugar, no garlic or ginger, no garam masala. Ordered chicken korma that is usually a yellow sauce, this time it came like tandoori. Do they think I don't know the difference? Not worth the price.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 25, 2023
Ate here twice while working in the area. The first night I ate at the restaurant. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken which came with rice and mint sauce and tomato chutney. The chicken was really good and the sauce and chutney were delicious. A few days later I did an order for pickup. I ended up getting the Lamb Dosa ( a huge Crepe stuffed with Lamb meat $8.95 ) and the Ginger Chicken (Boneless chicken cooked in a sweet and savory sauce made with mango and other spices $10.95 ). This Ginger chicken was absolutely delicious. The Dosa was good just not enough Lamb stuffed in the crepe. Prices were good for the dishes I ordered the two separate nights. The food was really good and the service was great as well.

I've been to this spot multiple times. I have enjoyed it each time. The food is delicious and always hot so I decided to eat their buffet which I usually don't do anywhere else. It was well stocked and clean. The service was on point. I'll always be back....

Food was flavorful. Every thing, even the dessert, though, was spicy I understand the cuisine generally has a degree of spice but I've had Indian food elsewhere that wasn't as spicy.
Glad we have this place and the option for people to try Indian food, though!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dec 28, 2020
I'm grateful that this restaurant is able to serve this small town that leaves much to be desired when it comes to diverse food options. There's even a market inside the shop so you can pick up some extra goodies on your way out if you wish.
I'll just list some of the things I've tried so far, all of which you can't go wrong if you wanna risk it for the biscuit!
Food:
Chicken Samosa
Chicken Tikka Masala
Chicken Korma
Butter Chicken (my fave, so good!)
Mughlai (lamb) Biryani (my fave among the biryani options)
Hyderabadi Dum (chicken) Biryani (you can't go wrong here tbh)
Goat Biryani
Malbar lamb (has a nice kick to it, def recommend!)
Lamb Madrasi
Lamb Vindaloo (a great option if you want to kick up the heat)
+Normal naan, garlic naan (definitely a must!)
Desserts and Drinks:
Kheer (wouldn't order again)
Mango Lassi (!!!)
Chai (unsweetened; it was just ok)
Out of the desserts and drinks, I really loved the Mango Lassi! It's to die for when you're scarfing down a spicy meal, so definitely give it a try if you've never had it before.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Frankie G.Houston, TX10276May 9, 2023
The food is really good. To go portions are very good. Most places these days scale to go portions back for some reason. Customer service is pretty good. The wait time is the reason I took one star. They will let your order sit on the pickup table if you're not really paying attention and don't ask each time they put an order down. I choose to wait in my car now, so I just keep an eye out.

I love this place!! My go to is Butter Chicken but we have tried Chicken 65, Tandoori, Chicken, shrimp jalfrezi (spicy) all have been delish. If you thinking about going check out the buffet so you can try it all. You will not be disappointed.
The different spices brings out so many interesting flavors and heat.
Also ask for the chips and sauces!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
