My friend wanted to make a quick stop for breakfast before heading out to Napa valley, and dropped us off here while he looked for parking. I was so happy when I found out we were going to Tartine since it was on my list. There was a long line outside and it kept getting longer!
You can smell the fresh baked goods from outside already! There were so many yummy pastries to chooose from... I ended up getting the chocolate croissant, almond rocher, coconut macaroon, jalapeno with ham croissant, and the scented bergamot tea (from Rare Tea Company).
They reheated the ham croissant for me since I wanted to eat that right away. It was absolutely delicious! You can tell they use a lot of butter because the shell was crispy and flaky, yet still soft inside. The tea was also good and went well with all the other pastries as well, which I ate later on. They are known for their fresh breads, so I'll have to get some next time I'm in SF. -

We arrived at 3pm. Our expected an hour wait was only about 30 minutes.
Pumpkin Pie was good. My partner loved it and said it was the best pumpkin pie he's ever had (we're from Houston where pumpkin pie is a big deal). However, it wasn't sweet enough for me.
Tres Leches Cake. The best take on a tres leches cake I've ever tasted. Tres leches is normally heavy which makes the tres leches cake taste/feel even lighter. So fluffy. The coconut taste in the chiffon is a hint, a whisper, that drew me closer and closer. The cream (bavarian?) is also super light and fluffy. I would've licked the plate afterwards if I was alone.
Croque Monsieur with shiitake mushroom. Shiitake mushrooms, delicious. The rest of it was ok. Bread crust was crunchy good to me, but a little too hard for my partner.
Sopressata, Fontina, Broccoli Rabe Pesto pressed sandwich was 3 kinds of good. Bread was very tasty and beautifully toasted. Sopressata was a nice cut for the type of salami but could have been a little thinner. Pesto was a nice balance to the sandwich.
Overall, Tartine is a tasty SF gem to look forward to anytime I come up from South Bay. -

One of my friends gave me a gift card to Tartine, so this was the perfect excuse to try out their famous bread! We came on a Sunday afternoon and started waiting in line just before 4:30p, the time when the bread comes out of the oven every day. After about a half hour wait (we noticed that they were extremely inefficient at taking orders and ringing customers up), we went home with three loaves: the famous country bread, the oatmeal porridge bread, and a french baguette. While the bread was good, I don't know that it was necessarily worth the long wait (and the hefty price tag), and I probably wouldn't do it again for myself. The country bread had a fascinating texture inside that was pillowy, moist, and chewy--unlike any other bread I've tasted before! The oatmeal bread with an oat crust and the baguette were a little bit more typical, but both were fresh and delicious as well!

Super big fan of this dessert place and may be an important factor as to why I will travel to the city more often!
Only reason I give 4 stars is because of the wait. Saturday afternoon around 2pm and line was moving slow, really crowded. Seems like waiting in line is inevitable from previous posts but waited for at least half an hour with only a few people before us, which I thought was not a good first impression. However, the dessert was amazing!!
As a group of 4, we got the Banana cream tart, Brioche pudding, and Morning bun. My ranking would be the following:
1. Banana cream tart: This is an absolute must if you have never had it before!! Not an exaggeration when this is the dessert that took my heart and made me decide to go back. With real bananas, chocolate, caramel, and whipped creme layered so perfectly, this is a dessert you can't miss. Surprisingly, not super sweet either!
2. Morning Bun: Pretty good! Loved the orange zest of this croissant dessert that is well suited for a snack, anytime of day. Would be a great addition to a cup of coffee (which I did not try this time).
3. Brioche Pudding: Would rate this a 3/5. Was really good but definitely not the same feeling I have about the banana cream tart. On the sweeter side for me but loved the mix of brioche with fresh berries. A great dessert with iced tea (which I did try this time and would rate the black iced tea a 3/5 as well).
Parking can get kind of tricky but really excited to go back! -

Love it. Point blank.
It keeps me coming back for more! Whether it's their most famous and desired bread, the Country Loaf, or their glorious pastries (Lemon Tart, and Lemon Meringue Cake) most faves, to their scones or petite cookies, I can never leave without buying several items! -__-
It's also inspiring to watch the bakers and pastry peeps work their butts off in the back, with joy and laughter. It's no wonder they're popular. Clearly they bake with love :D, which also isn't a surprise they have a few books out.
Also visit Bar Tartine & Tartine Manufacturing (their newest location)!
Choose your sugar wisely! ;) Enjoy.-

This bakery is extremely popular, which is evident by the neverending line to get in, at all times of the day.
I came here with a friend to grab a coffee and pastry. We waited in line for about 45 minutes- Given the hype, I figured their items must be great, so I wanted to bring some pastries home for my family. When I got inside and started to order, the man working there was extremely rude and had a sour face on the whole time. After I asked for an item, he would start walking it to the front before asking if that was all I wanted. I had to say "Oh sorry, I'm not done yet, could I please also add x, y, and z". This happened after each item, it was as if he was trying to get me over to the cashier as fast as he could. To add to this, every time I would add something to my order, he rolled his eyes.
When I finally got the cashier to pay, I explained that I wanted to put some of the pastries in a one box because I was bringing them to a home. They almost refused to do this, and insisted on putting each pastry in a separate box, saying they didn't like the presentation of all of them in one box. If I was paying for the pastries, and asked for all of them in one box, that's what they should give me. The cashier ended up laying off and put them in one box, but charged me for everything twice. When I said "These 10 pastries come out to $175 dollars?" she replied "You ordered a lot of items" in a rude tone. I had her take everything out and re-count, and then she realized she had counted every item twice. You'd think she would've said "I'm sorry" but she just said "Oh everything was scanned twice, your total is actually $x."
OVerall, multiple people working in this establishment were extremely rude to me and my friend, which is the reason for the 1 star. It's a shame, because the pastries and baked goods themselves were absolutely delicious (my favorites were the currant scone, chocolate chip cookie, banana cream tart, key lime tart, and frangipane tart). -

I don't wait in line for food. (Waiting in line at Tartine is inevitable)
Because of this, we came to Tartine a little before they opened on a weekday. We still had to wait in a line, though brief, to get some breakfast items from this must try spot.
I had a morning bun. This is a cinnamon sugary croissant. It was really good, but what isn't really good when you serve it fresh and warm covered with cinnamon and sugar. Not hating, just saying.
We had our items on one of the few tables available inside. You bus your own plates and cups and most other people got their things to go. -

Every time I went to this bakery, there was a line out the door. That tells you something.
During my visit, I was able to try their croissants, plain and the frangipane type, the Devils food cake, the hazelnut tart and their brownies. Though, not all at once...lol
My favorite was their plain croissants. With a crisp outer layer but inside was soft and fluffy..but everything else was delicious as well.
If I had the time to, I would've wanted to try every single item on their menu.-

This is not a place to take your vegan-gluten-dairy-fun-free friends. And I find it hilarious that when you try to google "tartine", a suggested search that comes up is "tartine morning bun calories." .Here's the answer: hella, but girl pls.
This is truly a patisserie of French tradition and they do not skimp out on the butter and fun stuff. Calories are a social construct anyway.
So. Morning buns.
My blood has turned to clarified butter. When I die, I want my body to be embalmed with cinnamon orange zest sugar and wrapped in the doughy layers that consist of 70% butter. I used to be one of those crazy no-gluten people but this bun brought me back to the land of sane human beings that know how to occasionally enjoy sweets like this without having to google the number of calories in things.
Bless up. -

As good as yelpers have reported! They were also right about the lines ... even at 3PM and also note that while quaint inside it's very small. There are bakers running back and forth and employees working the glass counter, the cash registers, and coffee area at all times. However, I wouldn't say that they were in the best mood. One of the employees gave us attitude as we were paying.
Despite the line moving slow, you'll want that time to stare at the glass case of sweets. I wish there were 2 separate lines, 1 for people who just want something from the case and another if they are ordering drinks and food too - or a dine-in line and to-go line.
Both desserts we ordered lived up to the hype. The banana cream pie was huge for the price and not skimpy on the pudding, sliced bananas, and whipped cream at all! The chocolate shavings added a nice "amuse bouche" touch. As for the toasted almond rocher, I could eat 3 easily haha. So light yet chewy and strong on the toasted nut flavor. I loved how it wasn't overly sweet and heavy on the flavor versus sugar. -

If you like cheese and are willing to wait in line for on average 30 minutes, Tartine is a place to try. Walkable distance to Dolores park, the place is pretty small and seating is only for those who have already ordered and are waiting for their orders.
The sandwiches are around $13-14, and I don't even like cheese so I'm not the best critic on those, although I can say it is on the pricier side. My sister got the pecorino and almond sandwich which she didn't like too much because the cheese overpowered the rest of the ingredients
I got a quiche which was too fluffy for my taste and alright, but the pastries we got we for the most part pretty good. The canelé de bordeaux had a slight burnt taste to it which is expected from the rum but it wasn't my favorite. The hazelnut cream tart and lemon cream tart were perfect and very cute too! The menu does have a lot of variety so I do think it's a hit or miss on what you order. -

I'm in San Francisco visiting for just a few days so of course I had to try Tartine bakery! All I can say is, there is nothing negative I can say about this place. It is just perfection. I expected a wait upon arriving but only had to wait about 15-20 mins which is not bad considering what I had read it some reviews. I came at around 9:40 on a Thursday which I imagine is much better than a weekend. The place is a very modest size with not much seating so get comfortable sitting with some stranger! I got a coconut cream tart and it is just about the best tart I have ever had. I paired it with a cappuccino which was also excellent. The tart has a small layer of chocolate which makes it a good pairing with coffee! I also got 2 croissants to go as I had heard those are also amazing. I will definitely have to stop in one more time before leaving town!

So I know I give a lot of 5 stars but this pastry shop deserves it. Once you get inside and see their menu and the mouth watering pastry you'll know why. I wasn't the only patron having a hard time deciding ..by the way I picked 3
You have to try the morning bun with a fresh cup of their Java..or maybe the decadent Double Pain Chocolat.... And who could pass up The Croque Monsieur
Whatever you pick you will not be disappointed and even though the line was long it moved pretty fast
Whatever you do don't leave San Francisco without a trip to this remarkable pastry shop -

Thankfully the line here wasn't down the block when we decided to stop and eat here. It was just out the door to the length of their window. The wait wasn't long either. There wasn't much seating inside so I assume most people just grab their food to go.
My cousins all ordered the ham and cheese croissant which was a perfect snack to walk with as we walked around. I ordered the lemon tart which came in a box with a fork. I was able to walk and eat too. :) Loved the lemon tart. The sweetness against the thick crust was perfect.
Next time I'll definitely try something more savory. -

Long quick line outside of the local SF crowd. There is a reason why the line is long. Cuz it's worth it.
The chocolate croissant is blistering with luscious Flavors and so flaky I thought we were in LA for a second.
We couldn't help ourselves and order $45 worth is breakfast goodies including ham, corn and tomatoes. These are large slices with an incredible flaky crust.
Caffe latte so pretty and really well blended. -

This is possibly the best bakery I have ever been to. We came on a Tuesday morning around 11am and we were surprised to find that the line was short. So we waited around 10mins, but since this was our first time coming, we get to look at the menu and happily decide what to eat. We got the lemon tart ($6 something), banana cream tart ($7), and the Prosciutto and Provolone Panini ($13 something).
The lemon tart has a strong and bold taste for those who loves the lemon flavor. I was definitely blown away by the taste (not in a bad way). I was quite impressed. I loved the tart and the flakes.
After that, we got the Prosciutto and Provolone Panini. It wasn't anything too special, but was good nonetheless. It was a tad salty and oily. I prefer coming here for the baked goods.
Lastly, we got the banana cream tart, and it was the best baked tart, I have ever had in my entire life. It was so good and the hype is real. If I can come here regularly, I would get the banana cream tart weekly. It's well worth it with the price because you can't find this tart anywhere else. I want to come here again and be a regular especially for the banana cream tart.
This place is great for families and friends, but I recommend coming here on the weekdays especially early, so that the lines are short and you are able to get tables.-

The pastries here are good but I don't think it's worth the wait in line though. 6K Yelpers can't be wrong.
I had a tough, very tough time finding parking Sunday afternoon. The park nearby had a gazillion people, there were tons of people walking around so there were no street parking anywhere. Luckily I had my friend go down and get the pastries. The wait time in line was about 35 minutes.
Chocolate Croissant was good and super flakey. The chocolate was rich. The Frangipane Tart was super good and sweet. Recommend.
Even though we got the pastries in a box, it was good. The line was a bit too long though. Try their orange ice coffee. -

Date of Dining: July 4th
table for 4
Time: Late afternoon
At first glance: wooooo this line is out of control, outside the door around the corner and halfway down the block... I'm not exaggerating lol. From what I could see from my view in the line was it appeared to be very crowded and very limited space to sit comfortable within the bakery. I would recommend on days like this one not to eat inside but order to go.
Ambiance: Very packed, very loud, if you are not one for the crowds, might want to plan your visit extremely early.
Presentation: Was very hard to tell did not have the time to take any of it in.
Ordered:
Brioche Bread Pudding
Banana Cream Tart
Cold Brew Iced Coffee
Taste:
Brioche Bread Pudding - wow! please can I have another this time all to myself. with the perfect amount of seasonal fruit and that pudding is to die for.
Banana Cream Tart - Dark chocolate and caramel coated flaky pastry, is mouth watering.
Both of these pastries are very sweet but I felt it was the perfect amount of sweetness shared between a group of four.
The iced coffee was strong & perfect, I was expecting it to be watered down.
Overall the long wait was soooo worth it !!!! and would wait again. -

Now Tartine, the next stop of my many bookmarks during the trip! Just kidding, I only had 3 and Tartine just happened to be on it. With so many reviews though, it was definitely a stop I needed!
So I walked from Bi-Rite and managed to finish their ice cream just in time to walk inside.... for a line. I quickly looked to see what I needed to get. Banana cream tart? Check. I saw a lemon tart one as well, and seeing as how we all loved lemon, I decided to get one as well.
But holy goodness, you pay for these tarts. It came out to be ~$16 for the two. Dayummmmm. And they were the smallest ones I could get :P Ah wells.
Banana cream- good. Real bananas in there, and I'm not even a fan of the banana. The crust, not enough. But it was really well made. Sighhhh I needed more of this :D. They had a lot of banana, so if you're a fan of banana and tart crust, I suggest you get this!
Lemon tart- Good. Very tart. So you will definitely get the lemon taste if you are eating this. They have whipped cream on top that ADDS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO THE THING except presentation. It tasted bad and out of place, so please make sure to get rid of it. Especially if you don't like whipped cream. Just get it out. Out I tell you! :) I would get this again though sigh.
I don't think I'll be back in this area, so we'll see if I ever hit your yummy stuff again, Tartine!
They have a bunch of other things as well, but I didn't have the stomach or the money for them. It is a cafe so you can eat other things off their menu xD
Also kinda small :P
