I'm in love with their flautas, queso, and guacamole - I literally have ordered this same thing via DD at least once a week for the past month. The consistency of flavor is legit

I just got delivery from them and it was excellent! I would give them 5 stars but I didn't receive any chips! The ceviche was very fresh and tasty! The chicken enchiladas were a little bit spicy but just right! I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting authentic Mexican food! Just remember the chips! Lol

I was underwhelmed by their tacos but even that would have gotten them a 3 star review.
My real problem was the chips were cold. Really cold. The beans & rice that my friends got were also cold. We didn't get a refill on our drinks. We waited forever to even get our bill. The restaurant wasn't really busy. It's just like we were forgotten.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Loren S.Kansas City, MO02Apr 13, 2023
Best tacos for the money in the metro area. Amazing sauce bar, quick service, and a nice little dining room. This place has been consistent for years. Don't miss out!

Good, authentic Mexican food. I stumbled upon this place by chance. I decided to take an alternate route home than normal and found the restaurant. I looked it up and figured it was worth trying. I've enjoyed everything that I've eaten from there. From the ceviche to the gorditas, it's all good. They even let me create my own fish burrito (which isn't on the menu). Another thing I like about this place is the homemade salsa. They have a habanero that's pretty hot and really good. The restaurant is always clean and they have a friendly staff. There was a week where I ate here 3 days in a row for lunch. 2 thumbs up!

Horrible service!! Rude staff. Never again! The food is not fresh at all. Go somewhere else, save your money!

A confusing ordering system. it appears that you should go to the 2 registers and order from the posted menu above, but then you are told to go sit down if you are not ordering to go. Then after completion I waited for my check but was finally told to go back to the register and they would ring me up by what table I was sitting at. Very odd and time consuming without instructions.
I had a asada, pastor and shrimp taco with complimentary chips and sauce. The shrimp taco was $3 and the other two were $1 each. I probably wouldn't get the shrimp again but for $1 the asada and pastor were priced right for an average taco, although covered with way too much cilantro that was not the freshest.
If I only had $5 on me then I might return and fill up on some cheap taco's and free chips, but I'll probably spend a touch more for better fare at one of the many taco shops within a 2 mile radius.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kim W.Tulsa, OK23267215Jun 2, 2020
My go-to taco place for the past 5 years since i moved to KC. I love their al pastor tacos! I always ask for no onions since I don't care for raw onions. Three al pastor tacos and a horchata drink for under $10 is my idea of a good meal lol.
I have dined here and the service is not always the fastest but I prefer to order at the register or call ahead for takeout. You will get complimentary chips and salsa if you sit down to eat. Right now they have tables sectioned off to be in compliance with social distancing.
They recently raised the price of their authentic tacos from $1 each to $1.50 but they are still a good deal. If you are a lengua fan, they have good lengua but a lengua taco will cost extra but it's worth it.
I've brought many friends here when they were craving authentic tacos so as a California girl, I heartily recommend this place. Oh and I'm in love with their avocado salsa or whatever it's called. It's to die for lol. Hasta.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 15, 2017
Taquerias el Torito sits in an area that surely must serve as the greatest concentration of Mexican restaurants and grocers in Kansas City. That title used to belong to the intersection of I-35 and Southwest Boulevard, an area showing its age with mostly good but not great eateries and has been in slow decline for years.
So you'd better bring your "A" game if you're sandwiched between not just several very busy Mexican groceries, but Taqueria Mexico II, Taqueria El Korita and a few blocks away from evening/dive powerhouse El Güero to the North and Taco Express to the East. And then circle back West for a dozen other delectable options that include Mexican food trucks and more Mexican grocers than we can name. But wait, head south down Hardesty a few blocks and there's more. It's at once mouth watering and mind numbing.
Came here earlier in the week on Taco Tuesday and literally it was packed to the gills and people waiting for a seat and to order carry-out. I turned and left and came back Friday which was probably a good idea being close to Easter... not as many customers. I tend to go for street tacos at a new joint but the pork in chili sauce caught my eye and I chose green. Wow, what a fantastic dish. Tender, succulent pork, the sauce with a ton of great flavor, a little burn, and a nice side of rice and beans and a half dozen tortillas, this was a plate from heaven. Utterly delicious.
Not sure what they're doing with their frijoles to give them a somewhat red/orange cast but they're very good, just not great. Lacking a bit of flavor I thought. The rice though, mixed with a bit of green sauce was pure food porn.
My lunch companion had four tacos and I had a bite. We both agreed pretty good, but there are better in the area (like across the street at Korita, not even close). Tad dry, no lime provided, just onion and cilantro.
Service was great, and our waitress did well enough with her fairly good English and our dreadful Spanish that communication was fine. She returned and was attentive and we tipped appropriately
Interesting side note: owners seem to enjoy a series of paintings showing women in various stages of near wardrobe malfunction while making tortillas. Whoops, your blouse is falling off and body parts are showing! Hilarious and curiously odd at once. Don't worry, you won't miss them on your visit. Two of them on the south wall.
So, yet one more very good option in a town that seems to have an endless supply of great dining options for Mexican food. So many options, so little time...Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 1, 2019
