  • Do you still serve Popeyes chicken?

  • Read an article about this place using Popeye's Chicken. Is this still going on? So curious! What about their biscuits? Are they from KFC or Popeyes? KFC has better biscuits. For the waffle item on the menu, is it from the frozen EGGO?

Listen, I get it. Sundays can be busy; understaffed because people call out, busy with all the hungover people trying to get food in their system, parents with kids, etc. That said, the staff this past Sunday just seemed to not care at all.

We waited for about 45 minutes after writing our names on the list, and were not interacted with once. The staff seemed annoyed they had to work around all the people waiting to be seated. They refused to seat new customers however, because the "kitchen was slow". It would have been nice if they had made that known to those of us waiting, we only found out when a women asked why there was so many empty seats with people waiting.

To the person who runs this place; find out why your employees seem so disinterested in customers. Find out why they don't know basic service standards like "Hi, thanks for waiting", or "It will be a few minutes, we are really busy".

We left right before our name was called, went to the Omelette Inn down the street and had the complete opposite experience.

We ate here on our last day in California. We had coffee, the breakfast nachos, and the "Hot mess"

The coffee is fantastic, especially for a drip brew. The nachos came with a very nice sized portion for the price, and were absolutely loaded with eggs, beans, guac, and pork. They were delicious.

The hot mess was also very food. It tasted like it was bad for you, so you know it was good. The gravy was flavorful, but the real standout was the biscuits. They were fresh, fluffy and not dry. They perfectly complimented all the other flavors playing on the field.

I recommend the hell out of this small restaurant.

Tried Sweet Dixie Kitchen for the first time this weekend. Indoor and outdoor patio seating available. The interior decor is super cute!

Brettswitch ($12) consisted of a jalapeño biscuit with a good amount of fluffy eggs, cheese and bacon! I asked for the sausage on the side to dip with the biscuit instead of on top.

There is a small / narrow parking lot that fits about 6 cars, otherwise there was plenty of metered street parking.

    Great service provided by Joffrey.

Cute and quaint breakfast spot in downtown Long Beach. They have limited seating and a small kitchen so be prepared to wait. The service was pretty bad, but you could tell they were slammed and possibly short staffed. We waited quite awhile to be seated, and often times went with our water glasses / pitcher empty. The food however kinda made it worth the wait. Had the feels of homemade cooking. I got one of the biscuit sandwiches with bacon egg cheese gravy with a side of potatoes, highly recommend. They only accept cash so be prepared and in case you forget they have an ATM onsite. They have a wide selection of pastries, we tried the coffee cake and it was gone in seconds. Overall food was amazing but service needs some improvements. Will definitely be coming back to give it another shot

Delicious breakfast! I ordered the South Carolina Benny, which had jalapeño cheddar grits, pimento cheese, roasted pork and an egg on a biscuit. So good! My sister ordered one of their skillets, which was also very good.

We arrived a little before 11am and only had to wait a few minutes although we had to sit outside on the sidewalk. The tables are covered by umbrellas but it was starting to get pretty warm. The only downside is that the restaurant is cash only, though they do have an ATM inside.

The restaurant has a small shop inside as well where you can purchase biscuits and jam.

Breakfast for the hungry troops. Cute, Cute place, friendly service, skeleton staff Monday but swilling a morning cocktail made everything all right with the world. Can I just say that the THING to order is the waffle/chicken/bacon delight? Sweet, Spicy and yummy. Everything is big food so splitting and off setting the density of the breakfast by adding a fruit bowl would work out better, at least for the women in our group.

The atmosphere, help, and food presentation were on point. We were a party of five, and our rating is based on the food. Coffee cake, biscuit, and pork were dry. Churro French Toast was covered with a ridiculous amount of cinnamon and sugar.
If a restaurant is "cash only", it shouldn't come as a surprise with the bill.

I had the eggs migas. Honey had the trifecta. Mine was good, honey thought his needed more meat. The biscuits were a little tough (being from the South, I have high expectations). Apple butter on the tables is pretty good.

Tables and chairs are tiny. Service was laid back. Water glasses are plastic but they bring a glass pitcher.

First up: Sangria!! It was delicious! I had 3... omg it is so good and sweet. I ordered the waffle bites as a starter and they were good as well, not amazing, but good. For my entree I ordered a biscuit with egg and and bacon. Delicious a d the homemade jelly was soooo tasty. The atmosphere is very quaint and warm and the service was great. I am aware of their chicken controversy and Popeye's, but I'm talking breakfast and Sangria. I loved it.

Very cute little place! Food is good. At least what I ordered. It tastes home made. FYI, the chef... ooof  This is very casual chill place. Not your typical dinner restaurant but definitely for brunch or lunch. The decoration is unique. The server was nice. Nothing to complain about. Would go back for sure!

Was here yesterday while in LB. Cold egg, cold biscuit, cold potatoes. I mean cold, not even warm. The guac tastes like the weird stuff they sell pre-made from Costco. Wish we would've gone to the Berlin place around the corner, walked that way after and food looked so much better.

Sweet Dixie Kitchen on a Sunday morning was a great choice for the family. The interior was bright and airy and the furniture was eclectic. It felt like we were dining in a house rather than a street cafe.  The set up and variety of eating areas was very cute and unique.

I had plenty of time to look around and admire the interior design as our food took a very long time to arrive. If the place was packed, I could've better understood the delay but, it wasn't. In fact, it was surprisingly empty for a weekend brunch hour. But the wait was lengthy still.

I ordered the waffle sandwich and we got the biscuit sampler and bourbon chicken sliders to share. The biscuit sampler included a jalapeño cheese biscuit and a basil gouda biscuit with tomato jam, pimento cheese, and savory butter. The biscuits were great! - flaky, buttery, and flavorful. The sliders sounded good and the chicken was very well seasoned but the presentation of chicken, slaw, and bbq sauce topping small sliders made for quickly soggy buns.

I really liked this place but the wait (one hour after being seated) was rather ridiculous. I couldn't imagine trying to eat here on a busy day. They didn't seem ready for the crowd for sure and this was confirmed when they told us that the crab omelet that we wanted wasn't available because an employee was just then (at 9:30am) heading to the store to buy crab.

The food was great but the execution needs some work. 3.5 stars

Atmosphere and aesthetics is attractive - service is not.
Expect to wait 30-40 mins for your food.
Ordered biscuits and gravy, which were drowned and made soggy and were disgusting . Next were the order of eggs, they came in a pool of oil, disappointing. We did however order French toast which was the only thing that saved breakfast.... would not go again, service is slow, and I mean slow.
I made eye contact with other hungry customers who were sitting there..... waiting..... starting to notice they've waiting too long to just leave. I call this review "The Longing"

The place is really cute. However, the food is not great. It's ok. It could also be because the fruit was hot but the turkey sausages were cold. We also could not have plain potatoes it came loaded with onions and everything else. The server suggested that it's large enough to pick them out of the food. The price points are reasonable the homemade jam was great but the biscuits were about 3 days old. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. They seemed like really nice folks but may need a refresher on preparing food and therapeutic communication for customer service. Really was like this is the place but the food turned me off. Has a lot of potential.

I've been here a few times and each and every time the staff here have been rude. Today when stopping in to grab a quick we stood around for 7 minutes while the staff chatted amongst themselves and various people made eye contact with us but no one asked if we needed anything. After finally waving one of the staff over to let her know we wanted a croissant (we initially wanted a BTLA but they took their sweet time in helping so we had to leave) we were told it's cash only. Maybe this is just for pick up orders because when we've dined in we paid with a card before. Anyhow we left without getting anything and as soon as we got into the car my spouse said "We have to stop coming here, the staff is always rude." I agree. There are lots of places to eat in DTLB, choose another one.

Sweet Dixie Kitchen easily lands in the top 3 for the crowded brunch scene in DTLB.  True to the signs, you can enjoy a nice, relaxing brunch on their outside patios without the bustle or rush you may find at larger restaurants.

On this visit I tried the Sweet Potato Skillet, which they're happy to skip the bacon to make this a vegetarian dish.  Most of the menu focuses on similar southern comfort food dishes.  The dish was served to the table in the piping hot skillet pan and had a near-perfect balance of flavor and included warm biscuits that just seem to melt away in your mouth.  The portion size was comparatively large for the price point.

The drip coffee was not as good as others in the area and they recently changed to a cash-only establishment which is, at a minimum a hassle, and a potential security issue as the business is a more attractive target and customers carrying sizable amounts of cash are also at a higher risk compared to all other brunch locations which do accept credit or debit cards.
