7/9/2015This place was pretty good. The service is fine and the food was good. Seems to have some bad reviews, but wasn't our experience. Not the best sushi I've had in my life, but it was a good fine meal.
The waitress took our picture and was friendly about it.
Very fair prices. :) - Christine Allison M.San Francisco, CA169117
5/30/2015This place needs zero stars. Clearly. OLIVIA, the so called manager has absolutely no manners. She's incredibly rude, walks away from the customer and gives them no chance to speak. No customer service skills what-so-ever. She overcharges. I ordered A SIDE OF PLAIN udon noodles and she tries to charge me $9.95!!! Are you kidding me? She rolls her eyes and can't even speak like a human being. Before I even got a chance to have an adult conversation with her, she comes up from a table away saying, "yes?!" So freaking rude. This place in unprofessional. Don't come. Not worth your time or
Money. - 2985832002
4/18/2013I was actually surprised on how fast their service was. After my friend and I placed our order there were four orders before ours and within 6 to 8 minutes our order was done and brought to our table. At first I thought that they made a mistake but they didn't lol
I ordered the salmon bento with tempura and sashimi and my friend order I think it was Unagi roll. The salmon that came with my bento was actually a pretty decent size. I was happy because most Japanese restaurants usually give you a small piece of salmon or two small pieces. The sashimi and tempura were fresh.
One thing I didn't like is how the rest room is right next to the sushi bar. It's a bad idea because someone uses the restroom and drops off the kids at the pool. When that person exits. The people sitting at sushi bar will hear them flushing and possibly get an unpleasant smell as the individual walks out. Nasty stuff! lol - Aureliano C.Redwood City, CA9252041373
12/30/2014I went in cuz I had no idea what I wantedta eat as my 1st meal of the day. Was hungry and jus decided to go in and check them out for my very first time.
I was one of very few there, but then again it was after 3pm and most folks are bout ta get off work so that was nice cuz I didn't haveta wait long for my food.
I had a nice big bottle of cold Asahi and a large hot Sake whilst awaiting my Rainbow Roll.
When in Rome....
I pondered over the menu and decided to jus get sumthin simple. There are lots of choices to choose from! Noodles, bentos, rolls, baked clams, etc.
Pretty standard Japanese menu.
There was only one lady there whom, after takin my order, went home soon after cuz't was the end of her shift. I felt bad cuz my food hadn't arrived yet so I wasn't able to tip her. But then again, I did haveta initiate conversation.
Not much was said. I asked her how her day was goin.
Not the most loquacious of sorts there that's for sure.
The ladies are nice, ya jus gotta break the ice with'm.
But that's jus how I am. Very social and engaging.
I wait tables and tend bar so makin a connection w people can go a long way.
That bein said, ifya jus wanna sit down and have a quick and quiet meal without disruption then thisz the place!
Kanpai!

7/4/2015Tl;dr: Meh, painfully mediocre
I came here last Thursday and ordered one of their bento combinations. The waiter was pretty accommodating and allowed me to make a substitution (gyoza instead of tempura) which was nice.
The food however failed to impress on almost all counts. The Saba in the bento was decent, but the gyoza was mushy on the inside and their sashimi was questionable.
The bill for one bento came out to $16, which was more that I was willing to pay for the food I was getting. I probably won't be back unless I am desperate for Japanese food and all other places are packed. - Zooms L.Palo Alto, CA0326
4/22/2015Quiet little place with the best sushi and can't beat these prices. You won't end up with a $50 bill...well unless you order something crazy..I stick to what I know, nothing fancy, usually don't end up paying more than $20 bux! (Sorry run on sentence, I'm good at those) California roll Always good, Oregon roll (salmon inside California roll) Caterpiller Roll!!...Miso soup and tea.. always, always!! happy with my food, and very clean. LOVE, LOVE this place.
Oh if your expecting a chatty waitress you'll be disappointed..but if your looking to enjoy your food and leave satisfied then be prepared! :D - 1419024
8/30/2014Was just in the area and wanted a quick bite with a friend just to satisfy the mouth and sit down after some walking around the Stanford area.
Had one of their roles, the edamame and agedashi tofu. The roll was decent, the beans weren't bad either but the tofu sauce on the other hand was weak. I had friends who come here and expected a bit more out of the place but it's just a pick me up. Not sure if I'm compelled enough to come back, it just doesn't stand out. - 749670341
4/3/2014Jeez Louis. Talk about slow service. I came here with my boyfriend for a date night and the first weird thing to happen was the waitress bought out only one pair of chopsticks and one soy sauce saucer. I mean, I know I'm dating the guy, but I prefer to not have to share utensils with him over a meal.
After a while, she took our order- we got Red Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna, and Hama something something roll (it had yellowtail fish). The Red Dragon was really good!! Spicy tuna is pretty standard, but also good. The Hama whatever was pretty mediocre. Must be why its name is so forgettable.
After we finished (oh and we finally got another pair of chopsticks after requesting one) we sat there for a while. And we sat some more. There wasn't really anybody there. Maybe 4-5 other tables of 2-3 people. We joked about dining and dashing just because it was taking so long for the lady to bring us our check- calm down, we weren't REALLY going to dine and dash. But she was so oblivious to our existence that it would have been completely possible to get away with.
Eventually we were able to wave her down and she brought us the check. For the quality of the sushi I would probably go elsewhere for better food at the same price and with better service. - 204358238
2/20/2015Over the years, I've given this spot several chances, and it's seriously not worth giving it any more. Every time I come here, it's been out of necessity; proximity or the late hour. Sometimes, with a good restaurant, that serendipity will parlay into a nice new regular haunt for me, but Sushi Tomo is not this kind of place.
Tonight was a great example of how Sushi Tomo doesn't deserve more than two stars. Sushi Tomo closes at 10pm on Friday, but when we came in at 9:50pm, the host seemed really unhappy to see us. When a restaurant is open until 10pm, that means they take seatings until 10pm, but she was so unpleasant and sour and unwilling to seat us. Instead, at the encouragement of the two other people present (the sushi chef and someone sitting on the customer side of the bar), she reluctantly said that we could get takeout. They didn't offer us a seat while we waited for our food to arrive. We noticed that they posted a sign that their to-go containers cost their customers about $0.50 apiece extra.
When we got the food home, we found that the rolled sushi was rolled really loosely, as if made with little care or attention to detail in a rush. It all fell apart. The miso soup was full-price but half-size, and contained nothing but miso broth: no tofu, no scallions, no seaweed, no nothing. The nigiri was okay, nice big slices of fish, but the fish was split on the fat lines and wasn't prepared the way in which I had asked. They missed several fish scales.
Everyone has a bad day sometime, but it seems like every time I have come here, "sometime" is now. It seems like they don't want customers, to be honest. If they really don't want customers, they won't have to worry about me. - 3467774025
11/10/2009On a food hunt after YEE Melt Lounge. Saw Sushi Tomo, open and poppin'.
Service was a bit slow with only one server taking orders.
Ikura (yelp.com/biz_photos/dYOW…): Although a generous amount, the ikura was flavorless. The nigiri was poorly wrapped as the nori slowly unraveled.
Crazy Monkey Roll (yelp.com/biz_photos/dYOW…): Sake, maguro, hamachi and wakame. I liked the variety of ingredients and the generous size of the fish pieces. But once again, the roll fell apart and the fish was not that fresh.
Pork Cutlet Dinner (yelp.com/biz_photos/dYOW…): Comes with salad, miso soup and rice. Pretty good deal for $9. But unfortunately, the cutlet was dry and flavorless without the katsu sauce.
Overall: Reasonable prices. Decent portions. Unsatisfying food.
