Q:
How is sushi counter experience different than the sushi lounge experience?
A:
Same food, but different setting. Sushi counter is where everyone wants to dine. Lounge is exactly that. You're sitting at a table also, but it's not as special of an experience as the counter.

Is there anything we can order for kid?
A:
As the other reply said, there is no menu to begin with and I also do not think it is a good place for kids. I am told the food is much better if one sits at the bar. I was seated at a table when i was there. Paid $600 for two for the dinner and… more

I could sit at the bar here and have omakase all day! The quality of each fish was impeccable and the pacing was perfection. I am so impressed with our chef's skill and ability to fire off each new piece so quickly and each one was better than the next. I had so many favorites including the Spanish mackerel, king salmon, and scallops. Honestly you'll fall in love with each one. The service is excellent, they pull out the bar chair for you and push you in. They even noticed when I came back from the restroom and did this again.

This experience was incredibly tasty. Me and my fiancé traveled to New York and thought we must try a Michelin star restaurant out there! I love omakase experiences and this one happened to be my first.
For food, we did the omakase menus that serves you around 20 pieces. The shrimp was still alive when they have it at the counter and is made freshly right in front of you. Each piece had its own delicate taste to it and was all very delicious. I especially enjoy the ones that the torch was used on. A5 was additional charge and it was extremely tender so I highly recommend paying the extra $ for it.
This restaurant was located in an a very quiet area. We're not too familiar with NY but it seems more away from the thriving part of NYC. However, inside it was beautiful, modern, very well lit. Service was superb as we were constantly asked how our experiences is. The shrimp was alive before given to us on a a bed of rice too. I also love that we sat at the bar and saw everything put together. The chefs were all super kind and some even made a lot of jokes. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Unassuming sushi spot with a Michelin star. Decent and a pretty good bang for your buck given you get 20+ pieces; however, if you're looking for quality over quantity, then this might not be the spot.
We were seated at the bar where we got to watch all the fish be prepared. Chef was nice though not particularly talkative and didn't provide much explanation to each piece. We also requested no wasabi, though some of our pieces came with wasabi still, which definitely detracted from the experience. Chef was also responsible for preparing food for all 5 people at the sushi counter and additional guests at the tables, which seems like a lot given he's preparing so many courses for people! This also meant there was a slightly longer wait between pieces (vs feeling like we were getting each piece as we were ready for it).
There were the standard pieces such as uni, hotate, various levels of salmon, tuna, etc. Their highest quality tuna, though, was seared and not particularly fatty which was disappointing. The eel also had some small bones in it. Hotate and some of their other pieces were fine but not particularly great. Their tamago also tasted like a pound cake which is not what it's supposed to taste like (at least that is not how it's ever tasted whenever I ate it in Japan last month).
Service was alright though pretty cold. Water was refilled frequently. They were quite rude about the "no videos" policy, stating "As a reminder, no videos are allowed, but you can keep yours if you want" when we videoed the ambience in the beginning (not knowing this rule). I asked my partner if I had missed them saying something as we were seated but they also hadn't heard anything about a no videos policy. After this, it was awkward even taking pictures of my food which I typically do to document each piece and write my thoughts. I'd encourage staff to use gentler language such as "Not sure if you knew / Sorry, we have a no videos policy. You're free to take pictures but we ask that you don't take videos PLEASE."
If you're looking for many pieces and are particularly hungry, I could see this being worth the visit, but otherwise the quality and service are not worth it. - Aug 24, 2023
I will be honest, I was a bit astonished that this place has a michelin star after finishing my meal. As someone who has tried a fair share of omakase restaurants and loves sushi for the quality of the fish, Sushi Nakazawa did not live up to its star.
When you first walk in, the interior is very fancy. Almost too fancy. Does not feel traditional at all. The chef is also not super personable, which I found to like at many other omakase places I have been to.
Now onto the actual food. You are served 21 courses, which although is a lot and fills you up, the quality of the fish is just not there. The majority of the pieces are very fishy, a bit tough, none of them really gave me that melt in your mouth texture I was looking for. On top of that, the dessert was not good at all. The creme brulee was so thick and not creamy. I wish it was a bit more silky and light, I could not even finish it! It's crazy that one of my more favorite pieces of the night was the roe...
Anyways, Sushi Nakazawa is definitely not worth the price point. For half the price, you can go to Sushi by M and get way better quality fish + a better overall experience. - 23046Sep 4, 2023
Although I've eaten much sushi, I'm happy that this was my first Omakase experience. I got a reservation for the counter and came here for dinner. The staff was extremely professional and you'll feel very taken care of as soon as you check-in and enter the waiting area to be seated. The counter area had a very modern decor, being very clean and simple with few things to distract you during your meal.
Our chef was very kind, telling us the various fish and ingredients going into each of the pieces. He was also very receptive to questions we had about the fish and their different tastes. He even let us have a moment to check out the shrimp before turning it into our next piece. The omakase was 20 pieces and ended with an eggless creme brulee and tea for dessert. About of the way through we actually felt stuffed but didn't want it to end. I'm usually a fast eater and this is the most I've ever tried to slow myself down.
To drink, we had genmai matcha and a white yuzu ale. We personally found these to pair really well with our meal. Various sake are also available.
Overall, I recommend checking out Sushi Nakazawa. It was a great experience. Although on the pricier side, I would like to go back. - Xu L.Midtown West, New York, NY0337Oct 31, 2023

Michelin starred omakase greatness. Everything here is on point from service to communication to the overall experience. Freshest and most delicious omakase pieces at the lounge and the server is a master of this craft. The king salmon and the bluefin are amazingly done. This is the perfect splurge dinner.

This place comes with a price tag as we all know but if you are a sushi enthusiast, I do recommend this experience very highly.
The restaurant is in the west village and very spacious. There are tables and a sushi bar- we sat at the sushi bar and saw all the action. We were also a bit late- a little over 15 min for this reservation and they accommodated us very very politely considering the demand and level of popularity surrounding this restaurant. Everyone was SO nice and not pretentious.
Now for the food. I can without a doubt say this was one of the most quality omakases I've ever had. The fish was not only fresh but it was cut beautifully. Like these cuts of fish looked like glass that's how precise and delicate the whole experience was. The fish selection was pretty classic but the quality is so high you don't really care that the selection isn't "unique". Also want to point out they gave us this amazing crème Brûlée dessert. No clue what flavor it was but it was the perfect cap off to this meal because it too looked heavier and too beautiful but ended up being so light and lovely.
Sushi LOVERS with no price tag constraints - definitely go. - 89151147Aug 14, 2023
The fish was so fresh and every single piece had a nice bite to it. The 20 course omakase definitely made me full at the end and the crème brûlée was the best. The service was great and there were so many attentive waiters. The back was actually pretty plainly decorated with no music. It was kind of nice to see how they kept it very simple with no frills.

Loved this omakase dinner.
I've been trying to get a rezy for months and settled for a Tuesday 9pm which was less than ideal but figured it'd be worth it..and it was.
The service of michelin star restaurants have to be immaculate and let me just thank the good man who had to put up with me here! I was wearing leather pants so my napkin kept sliding off my lap and falling on the ground, like 3-4 times. Each time the server [promptly] came out of no where and gave me a new one, I was so embarrassed!
In the beginning our sushi chef was quiet and we found ourselves listening to the others convo, but something happened where he picked up- was making jokes and entertaining us.
The food was obviously on point. Absolutely fresh fish, great presentation, diverse lineup. Im glad I can check this off my bucket list now.
I remember I loved the hand roll, king salmon, yuzu sea bream, uni, and the creme brulee the most!
The only reason i gave it 4 starts is bc as great as the dinner was, there's def similiar omakase experiences for a fraction of the cost. 1000% worth it for a one time deal in my opinion, then go check out others.
