You'd never know from the looks of it, but the food is great and the staff was very friendly in a "friend of a friend" type of way. I had the cheese grits and the chicken sausage, definitely I would recommend the brunch.

I'll lead by saying this - the cocktails are overpriced and watery. Truly. My friend ordered a sandwich, and the meat was dry with a rubbery texture.
Also, the new co-owner has the music up way too loud. I get that you wanna create a vibe, but damn - can't hear any convo from the person right next to you.

    Hard pass.

Fight tonight and I heard customers telling workers to call 911 for an ambulance. One worker can be heard defending a customer who hit another customer with a bottle.

This place is quite loud, but it's worth it. The DJ plays a mix of classics and 90's R&B hits while you sip on a signature drink and people watch (if you're into that kind of thing).

The food is delicious I had the jerk wing which although not a dry rub jerk seasoning but a wet jerk sauce were delicious and made my 2 hands of UNO that much better. A friend of mine played connect 4 while eating shrimp tacos which were also delicious.

It's the best place to go on a bored Saturday when you feel like you should be doing something fun. I will definitely come back when I have a craving for good music, good food, and good drinks.

I wish i could give zero stars. This place is a drain on our neighborhood. Overpriced, flavorless food, owned by a rich white yuppie lawyer chick-turned-businesswoman who bought up the penthouse apartment in a newly rennovated (read: priced out after evicting lifelong black residents) building on an historically black and carribbean block. Asshole has the audacity to claim she makes the "best jerk chicken" and "best grits" in Brooklyn. There are five carribbean-family owned restaurants on our block alone. Bitch really? She also serves fried chicken and rosé in paper bags-- bitch really? Tried to capitalize off the "instagramable" bullet holes in the walls she mysteriously failed to rennovate, although she unabashedly gutted the whole rest of the place after buying out a small business owner, and has fittingly filled it with all the trappings of the urban outfitters, white-people-with-dreads, $12-for-potato-chips-shithole that it is. When neighborhood residents protested her behavior and disgusting use of racist jokes as a selling point, she completely failed to acknowledge or apologize for her actions. This woman is truly shameless and her food is truly bland.

Get the fuck out of our neighborhood and take your boring, expensive sandwiches with you, Becky. Bye.

Came here last month to pass the time while waiting to meet a friend for dinner. It was pretty awful. I waited literally 20 minutes for someone to take my order. Waited another 15 minutes and received nothing (part of my order was a beer...). During that time, a woman who worked there got into an argument with a guy in the kitchen. She ultimately yelled at him, called him a "f*gg*ot", and then left. At that point, still having received none of my order, I left, too. Don't come here.

The food was AMAZING! The burger and wedges are by-far the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is super chill and transforms in the evenings to a social hub where you can bring your date or catch drinks with friends.

Service: From the door to my seat, I was greeted with a warm welcome and my food and drinks we exactly as ordered. I've found a new hangout spot to work from and also socialize at.

This place is such a gem in Brooklyn located in Crown Heights. My girlfriend and I attended brunch and enjoyed the bottomless brunch with fruit flavored mimosas! (Pear and mango are our favorites). The Cheese Grits are phenomenal. Not too lumpy, watery but made to perfection: creamy gritty and cheesy. The biscuits are incredibly buttery, fresh, soft and lightly golden crisp. Clean restrooms, friendly and attentive service from BOTH Owners and YES this place is lgbtq friendly.  There's also board games available and a great music playlist to give to while you eat. I can't wait to come back for dinner!

I was visiting a friend awhile back and we decided to check out this bar because of its great location and my fren said it was new. She just moved to the area. Unfortunately that was the only positive I could say about it. The space was open but the environment was off, it seemed like people were on edge and the placement of the bar made it feel really empty and aloof. There also was a wall that hadn't been remodeled which my friend and I thought was weird considering everything looking remodeled...we found out why later which is hmm well was an  interesting decision by the owner.

After sitting down and getting our menus, we almost ran out when looking at how overpriced everything was. It felt like the twilight zone, everything felt like a rip off but we stayed anyway. I mean plenty of spots in Brooklyn are overprice and we hoped that the food n drinks would live up to the bill.... we were wrong. Lol

Sandwiches were so small and my friend said her sandwich was dry. I had a weak cocktail and my friends beer was flat which we sent back and were greeted with much chagrin by the waiter. Lastly, this place was just tone deaf-not sure what was going on but the ambiance had a mix of characature, up-scaliness vibe and off branding. I don't picture Summerhill being a hole filled bar with 40 rose and crazy high prices-it was confusing. I had to write this review in depth because I can't remember ever going to a place like this esp with these type of prices. I mean there were better options right around the corner and my friend apologized for not haven just taken us there.

Hope management can fix these obvious issues and also do something about security. It felt like a dangerous night club walking in and seeing security on alert lol.. it was midday! I was trying to be nice and give 2 stars but just couldn't. Good luck in the future pretty sure we won't be back.

It's one of those places that can get away with middling food, off-putting ambiance and high prices because it's an option that is probably closest to your apartment. That's really all its got going for it - it's nearby.

I only ever bought the chicken sandwich and it was small and dry and was only memorable because it was expensive. I can't speak for the cocktails, since I only ordered wine, which you can't really ruin.

The ambiance is spacious, which is usually welcome, but here it just felt off and cold. It was oddly too much space because the bar never seemed to attract enough people to fill it (even before people began protesting the place) to make you feel like you were enjoying the experience in the company of fellow diners/drinkers. The concrete bar counter; the hard, metal chairs; and the general raw-material/unfinished aesthetic only contributes to the cold off-putting vibe here.

If you want a summer drink in the neighborhood then try Drink on Franklin Ave which has a patio; 99 Rogers, which has similar big, tall open windows and way better food/prices (you won't get particularly friendly service though...); or eat and drink at Bedford Hall if you're looking for a laid-back cozy vibe.

I came here once, right when the bar opened to "see what it was about". I thought, hey, it'd be nice to have a cute spot on my corner.

The drink I paid $12 for (!!!!) was very mediocre. The vibe was... not great. There was a mixup with payment and they sent the security guard running after me down the street because they hadn't seen the cash I left. When I came back to explain I *had* paid I wasn't treated well.

And then with all the news? No, I want to pay money for places that capture the spirit and palate of the area. This wouldn't be one of them.

I live three blocks away and was really excited to see this place open, enormously disappointed by the experience. Regardless of any controversy surrounding this place, I don't know how anyone can give it a genuinely positive review.

Firstly they have an incredibly limited liquor selection. Cocktails are $12 each and very watery because of tiny shards of ice that don't stand up to NYC summer heat. While $12 might be average for NYC, it's $2 more than Superpower on the next block, which mixes a decent drink.   Tooker Alley on Washington Ave (a street with way more class than Nostrand) will mix you a world-class craft cocktail for $12. Don't charge $12 when you can't deliver a decent product, especially not in a neighborhood where the economic disparity between long-term and new residents is increasingly polarized.

This place exudes bad taste and poor judgment on every level. The whole atmosphere -- from bland drinks to tacky gimmicks and whimsical sandwich names -- feels inauthentic and try-hard. The only positives I can mention are Left Hand Milk Stout and the lemur wallpaper in one of the bathrooms. If you need to eat or drink locally, Cafe Rue Dix, The Breuklen, and Covenhoven will serve you much better.

Overpriced, bland, watered-down drinks, and unseasoned food.

Cafe Rue Dix and The Breuklen are not far down for far better food, drinks, atmosphere, and service.

I have tried Summerhill two times, once before all the press and since. The location is wonderful and the outside/inside is great. However, the sandwiches are VERY small and way too expensive and not good. I don't mind paying $12 for a sandwich if it is Fabulous....these are not. And the drinks are ok. I had a beer, so it wasn't watered down, but not cheap either.

I wish it could be a success, but the menu really needs work, both in pricing and taste.
