Can anyone tell me where the hairstylist Sarah S went?
A:
The business changed owners, so you might ask the business owner. They are, indeed, OPEN! Love it here and everyone is so inviting and nice.

Sarah is my go-to girl at Studio K. I wandered into Studio K when I first moved to Durham in 2009 with elbow length hair that I needed to have chopped to donate. Sarah was a little nervous about doing it because it was a big change but once I explained that I was sure about it she went to town snipping my donation ponytail and then giving me an adorable angled bob. I've kept coming back because everytime I go in and tell her what I want, she totally delivers. She keeps up with trends in cut and color. I personally use her for highlights and lowlights and have never been dissatisfied, but I know for a fact that if I were, she would do her best to adjust my color or cut so that I'm happy.

Finally, a reasonably-priced hair salon! I have been searching for one in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, because I am not about to pay $50 for a simple wash and trim.
I had walked in, hoping I could get a cut right away, but I was told that I'd have to come back the next day with an appointment. There was only one hairstylist there on this recent weeknight, so that was a little disappointing. While the salon's calendar was wide open the next day, it's clear that you probably can't trust your luck on a random drop in to get a haircut.
Anyway, I came the next day, and the salon was poppin'! I could tell that many people there were regulars. When I originally made my appointment, the woman made a point to ask if I was a new customer. When I met my stylist, I found out she was brand new and had been there only a month. I believe her name was Helen, and she was fantastic! I loved talking with her, and she was such a diligent stylist. She asked me all the right questions and let me make decisions. She wasn't pushy and provided good advice for hair maintenance.
It's been several days since I got my hair cut, and I must say that it is exactly what I wanted. When I am due for my next cut, I'll definitely be making an appointment here.
Bottom line: This reasonably-priced salon has great stylists who listen to their customers and are oh so friendly! Just be sure to make an appointment in advance.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy S.Durham, NC23719Aug 14, 2018
Y'all. Can we talk about this place for a second? I have been to numerous salons in the area trying to find my go to stylist. I thought I found a place, but they are always booked. ALWAYS. So I had a little breakdown. I needed my hair done and I needed it done soon. I googled walk-in salons and this place popped up. I called them at 7:30pm on a Friday night and they had something available the next day!
I walked in and the sweet front desk lady was so accommodating. Offered me drinks while I waited (which was half a second) and then Helen came out to grab me. Right off the bat I felt comfortable with Helen. We had great conversation and she listened to me while I explained what I wanted and what my budget wanted. Their prices are well priced for the area and they tell you prices up front. Literally, there's a chalkboard wall with all the services and the prices up front.
Helen made my hair look amazing!! I've received so many compliments and it's been 3 days. She's been doing hair for a while and just moved to the area which is why her schedule is open. (It won't be for long after people figure out how amazing she is with hair.)
I initially planned on coming here once, fixing my hot mess hair, and then planning ahead better with my other salon. After my visit with Helen, I'm now switching completely! She is so personable and lovely. The time flew by and we actually hugged after I left.
I'll definitely be back.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amie K.Raleigh, NC5359Jan 24, 2010
MANDY was wonderful. I'm turning 30 and never colored my hair before. Wanted something fun and different with cut and color - but didn't know what. Never experienced "lift" levels or picking out colors, etc. Mandy was very patient and put together a plan for me once she gathered what it was that I wanted.
I was internally freaking out during the foil unveiling, but it came out wonderfully. I love the color and the cut was everything i had asked for - volume at the roots and lift with healthy ends.
I will DEFINITELY be back!

When I found out my husband was deploying, we decided to get married...quickly! Despite the quickness of my nuptials, I still wanted to "feel" like a bride on my wedding day. I always envisioned myself with a classy updo but I wasn't sure where to go since my regular salon was unable to fit me in.
I stumbled across Studio K on Yelp. When I called the salon, I spoke with Elizabeth and she was extremely understanding of my situation. She booked me for a separate cut/color and updo appointment with Jenna. When I came into the salon, Jenna was equally warm and understanding. She did a fabulous job on my cut and color. The next day (my wedding day!), Jenna completed my updo...I loved it! :)
I cannot thank y'all enough for being so professional, helpful, and caring throughout my whirlwind wedding. Having the perfect hair gave me just the extra skip in my step that I needed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Saee D.Durham, NC285Apr 13, 2017
Studio K is my go-to place for haircuts. I moved to the area a year back and I've had my hair cut from them several times now with different stylists and they were all great. Their prices are very reasonable too. I've always left Studio K feeling good about the way I look. I want to give special shout-out to Ashlyn, the Junior Stylist. I have thinning, not-so-great hair. She did a wonderful job with it, made it look nice and full. I feel that says quite a lot about a stylist, when they can do wonders with difficult hair. So if you're in need of a great haircut, this is the place!

I'm very serious about my eyebrows. Don't laugh. I've been waxing my eyebrows since the age of 15...before that, I looked like a Muppet. I have crazy, wiry eyebrows and I'm very picky about the length and shape that I want them to be in. I have started trusting my eyebrow waxing to Studio K. I went in the first place because it was near my house, but now I go back because I really like the way they shape my eyebrows. If you're an eyebrow freako like me, you're always worried that someone is going to leave you with scary pencil-thin, or overly archy eyebrows. That's never happened here - they do them just as I describe.

Rude. Waited for 15 minutes before being helped while 2 employees chit chatted. 1 of the 3 staff was working and with 30 minutes until closing they would not give my 6 year old son a hair cut. And that was after they watched us wait to be helped for 15 minutes. Not good business practice ladies!

I cannot tell you how sorry we are. I was actually there and thought you were waiting for the designer checking out a guest up front. I was the one busy cutting hair. Had no idea you were a walk in. My receptionist said you had walked in when she was ringing up other people. I know you were there around 4:30. You should not have been turned away. Please email me at StudioKSalon@nc.rr.com. Thank you.

Went to Melanie for my first visit. I wanted something new and hadn't had my hair cut in about 3 months. Although I knew I wanted it shorter than I had, I wasn't sure about the exact cut.
She took the time to consult with me before hand. Everything from what products I use, what I use to style with, how much time I put into my hair, how edgy I like to be, etc. When we decided on a style she walked me through it before ever cutting a hair. As she styled it, she walked me through it and gave me great suggestions.
She was great and my cut is great. I will most certainly be back!!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mj P.Durham, NC234Dec 18, 2018
I have been a regular customer to this salon since moving from Boston to North Carolina in 2004. I feel like my hair stylist is a member of my family. I was really angry to find out today that the long-time owner Karen sold this salon with no notice to her staff or her customers. The new owner, who is from Persia, never met with staff to assure them of their jobs or let customers know what was happening. She immediately removed all Christmas decorations and banned coffee, tea and sodas. She painted the chalk board wall detailing prices so I'm sure prices will go up drastically. She also got rid of all the hair styling products so I no longer have any place to go to for my shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair. I'm guessing she will get rid of all the staff, too, soon. I gave all my personal info to my stylist today and assured her I will go whenever she goes. I have no loyalty to Studio K and I am sorely disappointed with Karen's behavior. She obviously doesn't care anything about her staff OR the reputation of the salon she nurtured for so many years. FOR SHAME! Durham just lost one nice business. SO SAD.

I went in for a quick haircut here yesterday. I'm getting my hair colored on Saturday so wanted to get a trim that wouldn't cost me more than $30. I was able to book my appointment for the same day and was seated right when I got there. Because the lady didn't have time to do a blowout, she did a dry cut. She did a great job and did not cut off any more than I asked, which I really appreciated. I was also in and out in 20 minutes, which was awesome. And to top it off, it only cost me $24 (+ tip).
