Sweet little gem planted smack dab in the middle of the West End. It is well cared for, and the park benches give it that extra little ambiance. It's a welcomed sight when walking through the neighborhood. The flowers and plants are thriving, the trees are well-kept, and it actually seems to beckon you to come sit down and take a load off. After seeing sidewalks all day, this is truly a treasure for the eyes as well as the soul.

Strauss Park is beautiful. There was a man cleaning the park while I was there. It's very well maintained for people to enjoy. I love the beautiful fountain. There were people relaxing in the well landscaped environment. It's a quiet place to rest in the outdoors. Stop by there if you're in the neighborhood. The fountain is well worth the visit.

Definitely not worth going out of your way for if you're just visiting the city for a short time, or looking for a spot to take a date, as it's just a little inlet of trees and benches and a statue of a lady over a fountain.
It's quite lovely for people in the neighborhood to read and relax. It's veiled by trees so it does lend the mind some peace and quiet. I'd recommend this place for someone looking to sit and eat breakfast, or to take a solo walk!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - andy t.New York, NY34044133Apr 16, 2009First to Review
On April 14, 1912, New Yorkers Isidor and Ida Straus were on the Titanic when it hit an iceberg and sank in the North Atlantic.
The NYT quoted a survivor as saying, ''Mrs. Straus declared she would not leave her husband. . . . They were standing arm in arm as the last boat left. As she refused, she clung to him, and they went down arm in arm with the boat.''
Straus Park, located on a triangular block a stone's throw from where the Straus' country home used to be located, was dedicated to the couple in 1915. It remains a quiet pocket of peacefulness where you can sit on a bench, read a book, feed some pigeons and watch the world go by.
Better yet, enjoy a picnic -- there's a Garden of Eden across the street for supplies (as well as a wine shop) -- and ponder what it must've been like for the Isidor and Ida on that fateful night. This park is essentially a somber place but it's beautiful.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Debbie O.Manhattan, NY1534766Apr 4, 2017

Nice little spot to relax on a pleasant spring day.
I made my way up Broadway and stopped here to sit down. I was listening to the Strokes first album for the first time and I was blown away. As taxi cabs and trucks ambled up and down Broadway, I lost myself in the sounds of "Someday" and "Take It or Leave It."
As the album ended, I slipped in my other new CD, "Raw Power" by Iggy and the Stooges. I was inducted into two great bands on the same day and I think about that day whenever I sit down even for five minutes on one of these benches.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - George C.New York, NY1773614303Jan 22, 2010
Cozy little nook along Broadway, unbeknownst to me until I looked across the street. Stopped in to eat and read a bit. The passing traffic provides some nice background noise (as nice as NYC honking can be, really).
