On my cross-country drive, this was a good area to stop in and I stumbled across Stone State Park and its adorable camping cabins. The cabins have to be booked for 2 nights so I had to book it the day-of. I barely made it in time to check in but I did - many thanks to the ranger for being patient! I recommend bringing cash if you try to same-day stay. The place was really adorable and cozy! There's an AC unit, a dehumidifier, a microwave, and a decent sized minifridge, along with a small table, bunk beds, and a futon. I was happy to be on a bed and just used my sleeping bag for sheets. As for the park, it has beautiful hills and sweeping views. I didn't take a longer hike but would absolutely not hesitate to stop by, for camping or hiking.

Beautiful state park. Lots of places to hike but also a lovely drive. Great views where you can see Nebraska and South Dakota. There's a beautiful old building you can rent for events.
Plenty of picnic tables for a day visit. There are campsites in the park too. Its a gem in northwest Iowa.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brandon C.Sioux City, IA1598160Aug 27, 2022
Great hiking trails! Saw a toad on the hike with friends! Beautiful scenery, gorgeous views at the highest points! Fun activities for the kids. Great place to just hangout & enjoy nature. There is a small gift shop inside the nature center building. Make sure to bring a hiking stick for the long hiking & rough paths too!

Wonderful State Park with a variety of activity options and wild life.
Activities include camping, hiking, road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding (BYOH), hitting the playscapes, etc.
This a great way to see the Loess Hills up close and maybe even see some local critters such as white tailed deer, turkeys, woodpeckers, red birds, quail, red tailed hawks, moles, racoons, et al.
The hiking trails are wide, well maintained, feature many benches, and a variety of elevation changes. Some of the uphill hikes reward you with really nice scenic overlooks - one into South Dakota.
Stone State park is a great way to spend a couple of hours or even as a weekend destination.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Stephanie R.Lawton, OK4821Sep 19, 2015
It was my wife and me that yelped the highest rates park to hang out in and well it was 5 stars for a reason. Love the different sites that you can grill and have a great time at, and the lake was beautiful. Great place to walk around and see just straight up nature. Will definitely be back for sure.

Not that many places to camp, but everything is beautiful with firewood, water, showers, & bathrooms close by. Take a hike after you set up camp. Be sure to call ahead since they don't accept same day reservations on the website. Word to the wise: the raccoons are crazy & will literally walk up to you with no fear to steal your food... Everyone on the grounds had to chase them away several times during the night, but they just come back for more.
