A friend of mine invited me to a Corn Dog day at StrEat food festival at SOMA. I was a little skeptical about the event, as I'm vegetarian, but I decided to give it a try anyways. We chose Sticks over all the other Corn dogs options, as they were providing the corn dogs for the Corn Dog eating competition, so we figured out they should be good. And the line was pretty big, so it was worth the wait. Unfortunately they were out of the vegan option, and a sweet girl was so genuinely apologetical about that! She offered me to try Tater tots, so that was my choice. Usually I'm not into deep fried food, but I enjoyed the Tater tots: they came out soft and light, not greasy or heavy at all. I will chase Sticks around the city so I can try the Vegan corn dog soon!
Heading out with my friends to do some wine tasting at Alameda Point, we headed to St. George and Faction Brewing. My friend said we had to try Sticks, a corn dog stand in front of Faction. Since she's not one to like corn dogs, I was immediately intrigued. We ordered the Louisiana Hot Link and Classic Beef Frank to start. I expected a standard size corn dog where you feel a bit ripped off by the price and wished you had just gone to Hot Dog on a Stick. At $6 a corn dog, I wasn't sure what to expect. Was I pleasantly surprised. The corn dogs were hot from the fryer and I couldn't resist taking a bite before taking a picture for Yelp. The Louisiana Hot Link had a bit of a kick but the batter was the star of the show. These corn dogs are definitely big. I don't like tons of batter on my corn dog but I really enjoyed this well-fried contraption. It was golden brown (which means they used fresh oil and didn't re-use from a day prior) and just crunchy enough without being oily. Would I go back again? Hands down the answer would be ABSOLUTELY. And for those who enjoy a nice beer, Sticks is a perfect combination with a nice cold one.
Love this place - found this food stand behind Hangar 1 in Alameda Point. We tried the hot link, original beef, chicken sausage and tater tots, everything was good!! The batter was the perfect amount of sweetness and fried to a perfect golden brown. Best part is we got to enjoy a great view of SF and the Bay Bridge while eating. Will be back for beer and more corndogs next time.
Both corn dogs I got the sausage casings were tough as leather. Wouldn't complain but for $6 it shouldn't be like this. F**k this place.
Homemade corn dogs. Doesn't even sound like something I'd care about. Not really my cup of tea. Not healthy, not delicious, not appealing. But my friend had a (well-deserved) crush on the guy at the counter, so off we went for corn dogs. I was shocked. It was actually really delicious, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Also, for once, my friend had good taste in men. DAMN he was cute!
Sticks has a yelp emblem on their banner but couldn't find them anywheres. they do homemade corn dogs of various pedigrees. locale: oakland art murmur(12/7) menu: (5) -hot links -classic beef -bratwurst -chicken apple crumbs: -bratwurst small, nice flavor, some gristle, good quality dog -cornbread-like breading sweet like honey, nice flavor -lots of breading (more dough for your dough) -pricier than batters up, unable to compare -cooked to order, 8 minutes -friendly service.
Boys and sticks and stuff.. with a deep fryer. Nice! Carnival food right in the middle of a farmer's market? Now someone is doing it right! Pick your choice of meat. Simple menu with classic beef franks and fries... Or go with gourmet sausages: chicken/apple, artichoke/garlic with asiago cheese, habanero with jack cheese. Everything is made fresh to order. You'll have to wait about 5 minutes for it to be ready, but it is soo good. Wash it all down with a cup of strawberry lemonade. There's also different sauces to compliment your corn dog.. My boyfriend tried every sauce and ended up liking the chipotle and jalapeño sauce. The chipotle has a kick, so be careful. Their secret isn't even the sauces or sausages, but the batter they have is amazing! We devoured our hot link and chicken/apple within a few minutes of getting our order. I wanted to go for seconds.. So my advice is eat your first one, halfway through, order your second one. You'll thank me later!
Waited 2 hours for a corn dog from Sticks, It was national corn dog day there was many food truck choices but this had the longest line and ppl looked like they were enjoying this corn dog. Okay insane to wait 2 hours but this was a darn good corn dog. The batter had a nice sweetness to it and you chose which sausage you wanted. It's hard to find a good corn dog. I've tried show dogs, dr. Teeth, what's up dog and have not been satisfied. TD and great customer service.
Tried this food truck for the first time at the National Corn Dog Day festival at SOMA StrEat Food Park. Corndogs are probably one of my most favorite things to eat. We got to the festival early so didn't have to wait in a huge line. Towards late afternoon, this truck had the longest line. Not sure why though... A thin layer of batter wrapped the not-juicy meat. We had the original and the hot/spicy dog. The original was meh. The hot spicy dog was also meh. Kudos for having a durable wooden stick though?
Made-to-order corndogs. Heck yeah! The best part is that you get to pick what kind of sausage you want battered. I slathered my all-beef beauty in mustard and was the happiest gal on the street. That is, until my last bite of corndog crust fell on the sidewalk. I was sad about that. Luckily, I know where they'll be next Wednesday!
Hells to the yes! My friend and I wandered in to the Glen Park farmer's market and decided to eat corn dogs for breakfast. Probably one of our finest choices ever. The dog was freshly made for us. We both had chicken apple sausage. The batter was definitely one of the more excellent aspects. Two thumbs way up!
These guys are legit! I love corn dogs to begin with but when I tried these artichoke corn dogs with their home made delicious batter, I was blown away and ate 2! I also ran into these guys at off the grid in San Francisco, I need them to come to more locations so I can get one every time. 5 stars across the chart!
These are great. The breading is delicious, it gives a nice sweet contrast to the savory flavor of the sausage inside the corn dog. Definitely a unique idea and very delicious. My favorite is the hot link-it's the best. I used to hate corn dogs, now I love them, only if it's a Sticks corn dog.
great beer food, decently priced, got my food in reasonable time, will recommend to a friend, will eat at this location again, and the guys are pretty funny. Garlic fries and corn dogs were awesome!
I've always been a hot dog/corn dog/sausage lovin' kind of girl (get your minds out the gutter, pervs). And, folks... Walking through my local Farmer's Market (upper Haight) yesterday, I encountered the granddaddy of all corn dogs... For all of you self-proclaimed foodies and snobs, Sticks seems to hold that concept of comfort food with a touch of adult sophistication. How, you say? Gourmet all-natural sausage corn dogs! They have a few different sausages to choose from which include: - hot link - habanero & cheese - chicken & apple - artichoke, garlic & cheese (seemed to be the favorite) I tried their hot link corn dog. How can you go wrong?! Spicy, but not so much so that you're regretting it thirty minutes later sitting on the toilet -- perfect! However, the star in my opinion, was the batter. I don't know what's in it, but it is nothing like the kind I grew up on. Sweet and fluffy with just the right consistency that makes you want to eat it even just on its own. Deeeelicious! I'll definitely be going back. I've got my eye on their organic "loaded" fries ;)
I've been hearing about Sticks and more interestingly from a friend that's pretty hard to please so I had to try it because I am a hot dog fanatic. Was a little discouraged from the price of a single corn dog being $6 but I didn't let that stop me from tasting what could be the best corn dog I ever had. It was. I was going to get the Louisiana go link building instead I had the bacon/mushroom w/ chicken sausage. They had me at bacon. I could eat a couple of those everyday, but at 6 bucks I have to ration my experience and perhaps preserve that 'wow' factor every time I bite into one.
Best corn dogs I've ever had - just glad that they're right here in SF. I didn't even like corn dogs before, but I ended up going back for a second flavor at Off the Grid. Next time I'll try their hot link and the strawberry lemonade mentioned here.
I went to Off The Grid in SF this past weekend with my friends for a day of sun and food tasting. Everybody knows this place is a mecca for amazing and unusual food. Sometimes, the simplest looking stuff is the best! This new vendor "Sticks" basically sells the American staple corndog with a new approach, which, once you go beyond the historic beef frank corndog, there is a variety of other meats to tantalize your tastebuds. Sticks has a slew of awesome sausage corndogs that are amazzzing. It's so refreshing to have a snack food that is flavorful enough to be an afternoon meal, and let's not forget you can get fries with that. The customer service is also good. While some food truck vendors rush you through like cattle, these folks are willing to explain there menu (with a smile) to first time buyers. Overall a friendly experience, with great selection, and a pretty incredible new take on the corndog. I only wish they would come to AT&T Park to sell corndogs during the Giants game!
Came to the farmers market in SF with some friends to do a bit of shopping. We had just came from eating dim sum but i saw small crowd around this spot. I had never seen these people before here. We looked at the menu and noticed that they were doing corn dogs but with sausages rather than hot dogs. Since i wasn't hungry at the time we decided to do our shopping first and then come back and grab one before we left, something about corn dogs and sausages just called my name. Decided to get the habanero corn dog but they had a couple other choices as well, no plain hot dogs here. The dogs are made to order and they come out really fast. I noticed they had different sauces rather than your conventional ketchup and mustard. I opted for the chipotle sauce on my corn dog. To be honest i wasn't expecting much, i mean its a corn dog how special can it be? Very surprised on how good it was. The batter was very light and had a sweet taste to it. The habanero sausage definitely put a kick to it which i loved. To top it off that chipotle sauce was amazing!!! I drenched my dog in it, it was that good!! I didn't try the fries since that would have been too much since we had just ate but they looked good. I saw one of the guys grabbing some potato's from the local vendor so they are fresh. Overall very impressed with these guys. A good spin to an American classic and most importantly they are doing it well.
Don't think I've had a better corn dog. Ever. Period. End of story.
