Look. Steve's is a Thornhill staple, their food is ALWAYS good, and the staff was wonderful.
But.
They have NO vegan options. None. I modified an order of toast to include a side of avocado for a makeshift meal with a side of home fries, but that was honestly all I could do. They didn't even have a non-dairy milk for coffee.
Steve's is a legacy restaurant from the early-ish 1900s, and their menu has been the same since before I went plant-based. I just wish they would add a few vegan dishes to their menu.
That said, I went for father's day with my family, and they all LOVED their meals, as they always do.
There was no wait for a table (SHOCKING since they don't take resos over the phone and it was a holiday), and they followed COVID procedures really well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 393751983Jan 5, 2019
Found this restaurant as wondering around looking for a breakfast place. Being adventurous and went in to give it a try. Ordered a California Benedicts with a cup of tea.
Benedicts came shortly after I had placed an order. It looked good. I could taste each of the ingredients perfectly. In the Benedicts, it has a pouched egg, a slice of avocado, a slice of tomato, a slice of bacon, and cheddar cheese. There's a balance of taste for each of these ingredients. On the side, there were French Fries and they went well with the Benedicts.
Then came a Tetley tea bag and a small pot of hot water. The tea was ok until I added the 2% Natrel milk. Somehow, the taste of the milk seems have ruined the tea. There's a weird gamey taste in the milk. Perhaps, it's my personal taste. At the same time, I doubted about it because I used to have Natrel milk at home as well.
Other than the milk, everything is good at this restaurant, even-the waitresses were friendly and often asked if I needed to refill water in my pot. It's awesome!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jonathan S.York, Canada279305Nov 24, 2021
OK, to be honest this place deserves two stars at most. I'm being generous because this is where I met my future father in law for the first time.
I'd been dating his daughter (now my wife, although I suppose she's still technically his daughter as well, if The Little Mermaid is to be believed) for a few months. I was (and still am) head over heels in love...and parts over other parts in lust (and still am). To put it bluntly, I knew she was the one and I think she felt the same. I'd quasi-jokingly pitched eloping, but she wanted something at least a little bit formal, which required meeting her dad at some point.
So we all met up for breakfast. Over mediocre coffee and overcooked omelettes we chatted and he gave me the once-over. I suppose he didn't tell my wife to flee, since we're still together.
So...mediocre restaurant, but cute story. Kinda what a diner is supposed to be about, no?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 1, 2018
Who would've thought a restaurant called Steve's would make such a good chicken souvlaki on a pita and chicken souvlaki platter? It's better than some Greek restaurants I've tried.
The service has always been good and there's plenty of parking. Both of these are important to me. The restaurant has never been too busy for dinner on a weekday. So I hope they do better on weekends to keep the place in business.
The only issue I have is with the decor. It is so plain the dining room feels kind of sterile.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 11, 2019
This is a medium sized restaurant which serves breakfast, brunch & lunch. Their food was typical breakfast fare (eggs, home fries, etc). I had the classic burger with bacon, salad & fries. The portions are pretty good. We came during the lunch rush so it was kind o busy & the waiters were a little rushed. I'll give them allowance for not being too friendly because they were busy. Don't get me wrong they were civil it was just kind of brisk. Kind of like a "hi are you ready to order. Ok thanks."
Anyway I thought the food was decent. They make their own burger patty so it was ground beef formed into patties. The salad was basic & I thought the fries tasted good. The bathroom was a little messy & my stall actually had run out of toilet paper. I would consider coming back to this restaurant when they aren't so busy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 22, 2016
This place is great!
First time we came here, I got the eggs benny with a strawberry banana smoothy. It was delicious.
Since then, we decided to come back. This time trying the grand slam breakfast.
The grand slam was great as well. A lot of food for one plate. (Came with 2 eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, toast and a pancake).
All of the food was great. The pancake in my opinion was a little too fluffy and bready.
Our sever did a fantastic job to make sure everyone was happy and was super quick despite the place being busy on a Saturday morning. She was on top of everything!
I would definitely come back to try more dishes here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charlie N.Thornhill, Vaughan, Canada296May 27, 2020
I love this place! They bring coffee and re-fills all morning. The early bird special is worth the early wake-up call. Home made potatoes are always fresh and it's basically like your local deli, familiar, comfy and delicious! I recommend going here once a month, with a close friend. It's also the perfect place for working on the side and having a calm brunch.

This diner is right opposite to Wimpy's yet I have never noticed them. I guess it's because they don't have flashy lights and a life size Betty Boop greeter.
I ordered Salmon Benedict (picture below). Very delicious. Eggs made just right and covered in creamy hollandaise sauce. Slit it open and watch that egg yolk spilling. Salmon was tasty, sitting on a well toasted English muffin. Hash Browns were alright, nothing special though. My friend ordered the sausage & egg breakfast and it looked meh. I suggest that you stick to Benedict.
Spacey, clean diner. Great service. All day breakfast, perfect for night owls. Check it out if you are in the area.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Sharon T.Toronto, Canada3429995Dec 7, 2017
I've passed by this restaurant for many years and who knew they would make a wonderful eggs benedict?
This store doubles as a restaurant and looks like it was recently renovated. It had a modern, white tone theme.
I ordered the Eggs Florentine, eggs benedict with spinach. Home fries were on the side.
The main reason my experience was very enjoyable was because of the cleanliness of not only the space but how the food "tasted clean." It didn't taste greasy like you would expect at most breakfast joints in the area. This includes the home fries.
One improvement would be ensuring our waters are filled throughout our stay.
I would return in the future to try their other lunch and dinner options.
