Horrible customer service, poor English speaking employees and unorganized. I placed an order on the phone. The woman did barely spoke English but I was able to convey the order. She said it would be ready in 30 minutes.
I went to the restaurant that there were two guys ahead of me. I waited for a good 10 minutes in line. The guys in front were getting frustrated. Some woman comes and basically jumps the line by going to the side. The female employee gives her food and takes payment. Meantime the guys in front of me and myself are still waiting.
Finally the first guy gets his food and pays. Second guy places his order and waits. My turn comes. It's now been 30 minutes since I placed the order. The employee asks what my order is and says it not ready but will be soon. I sit and wait. I ask again for the update after 5 minutes and the same employee asks for my order again. Like really ? She says a few more minutes. I sit and wait. Still the order is not ready. I now ask for a third time. She asks what my order was ! How can you forget my order that I repeated so many times and you should have written down ?
Basically, they either never took the order or didn't start cooking it. The employee/restaurant lied to me and expected me to keep waiting. I just left. And will never go back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charitra K.Houston, TX3132236Jan 9, 2022
Trust the 1 star reviews from other users and skip this place! I saw mixed reviews on yelp, but was craving for some samosas and decided to give them a try. I had to throw away the food. Oil is stale, food is smelly. Batata vada was spoilt! Never serve such food to anyone please.

Love the food and I have been coming here for 5 years. There are so many options in sugar land but this is our favorite. We love to support local restaurants especially during these times.

I usually come here around during Ramadan for Chaat and have actually been visiting Standard Sweets since their location in Hillcroft 20 years ago ! The owners appear to be the same but this order of kachoori Chaat and habshi halwa did not taste right.
I think the crispy outside part of the kachoori chat was different, possibly a new brand with different oil. Or maybe just stale. The chutneys also didn't taste the same...it just seemed strangely sweet. It use to have a red and green chutney which had taste to them. The whole chaat tasted off and the chickpeas tasted weird. I wonder if people don't really come here anymore and everything is stale and old. There were no other customers in the store and nothing to go.
Habshi halwa also was more bright orange in color, rather than a deep brown with nuts. Also it tasted very light in flavor. I only purchased one small piece of mithai ($1.25!!!) to try. The other mithai all looked they had been sitting around for a while with changed colors. Sadly, nothing looked fresh.
This is a shame because they use to be the best around for kachoori chaat. I would not suggest coming here. There are alot of other Chaat places to try instead.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Vik P.Houston, TX0171Nov 15, 2020
DO NOT GO IN! The owners are working without masks. When I asked them to put one on, the son said he doesn't have to, it isn't a law. I then emphasized that he could be spreading the virus, he didn't care. His mother wasn't wearing a mask either, and her age puts her in a high risk group. They also do not have any shields placed nor do they have any sanitizers. They were also not wearing gloves when they went outside to deliver food at curbside. Zero hygiene! Be safe, and stay away from this food establishment. You wouldn't go near them if you were locked in a room with these people than why let them cook and serve you food? Value yourself and go somewhere else.

I've visited this restaurant several times, and I always get the Chana Batura. The chickpeas and the batura, though usually oily, is always tasty. It comes on one of those cafeteria serving trays with specific sections. For a $5.99 dish, you get two baturas (fried dough which kind of reminds me of the same Chinese fried dough that is served with congee), a good portion of hot seasoned chickpeas (I asked for spicy for mine), yogurt, and some pickles, and onions.
On this visit, my coworkers also got the aloo parathas which is one flatbread that has a thin layer of seasoned potatoes filling inside. I also thought it had a good taste. One of my coworkers thought it was a bit salty, but I didn't think it was, though I was already full with my chana batura and was not able to enjoy it fully.
Service is fast and nice, but the restaurant itself isn't very appealing to the eyes. In fact, even when I come for lunch several, I rarely see other customers. On this visit, my coworkers and I were the only ones there with a one or two customers coming in for take-out when we were leaving.
For those who want to enjoy Chana Batura or Aloo Paratha, this is a good option.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ronbir P.Houston, TX841Jan 12, 2021

I'd go back again. The fella working the kitchen and the counter was friendly. He kept referring to me as "Boss". This inflated my ego and I felt special so that's why I'm writing this review. No I'm kidding but I felt the one other review and only review left here for this restaurant didn't give others who were curious about the food, justice. So I'll cover the review on the food here since I disregard service at all Indian restaurants sadly. Its not always about the service but really the food in these special case scenarios when we discuss Asian eateries... oh and I'm Asian :)
While I've had better Masala Dosas near the Hillcroft area I'd still say this was done very well too. The filling lacked salt but that's ok because it still allows you to modify it to your liking without drowning or muting flavors. The dosa came with Sambar which again wasn't as flavorful but needed a little more salt, an orange hot sauce (which was amazing), and a poor rendition of coconut chutney. Definitely not the best and was really runny. That's ok because dosa is typically enjoyed with the Sambar (think of it as a spicy vegetable/lentil soup with a light broth that is drizzled over dosas and rice). I REALLY enjoyed it with the orange hot sauce.
They serve it on grade school lunch trays much like Himalayas (off of SW Freeway @ Hilcroft) does which didn't bother me one way or another. However, if you are looking to impress a high end client with expensive taste bringing them here for lunch served to them with a grade school tray might be more funny then offensive to them. Besides bringing them here is the least of the worries. I'd be more concerned with you since this is a more casual, fast-food eatery :)
I ordered some Puri Chaat (Chaat is Indian fast-food snack) and he made it EXCELLENT. I personally think you can mess Chaat up if you do not prepare the ingredients properly or have stale ingredients. Everything tasted fresh. Yogurt, spices, and sugar took me from sweet to spicy, to tangy all in one bite and every bite. The crispy puri shells broke away easily and were not stale.
As I left and paid at the counter after I had my meal (yes you can order and then pay after you finish eating) I made sure to get a box filled with sweets to bring back home so that I could be the Boss and Hero with my wife. They were all good but one of them was awesome. It looked brown much like turd... yes doesn't look appealing but it was phenomenal. He said it was their best seller and I know why now.

Need to improve phone customer service. The same lady always picks up the phone. She will literally hang up on you before you are done speaking. They make amazing samosa, but I hope there owner reads this.
Please try to answer questions of customers without hanging up!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - A K.Houston, TX11665Aug 16, 2019
Ordered a large quantity of the habshi halwa for an event. It was ready on time and packaged well. The halwa was all over within 20 minutes and people were raving about it! The halwa was moist, not too sweet, contained the right amount of nuts and toppings, and was prepared with cute little foil to top it all off. We'll be trying Standard Sweets when we want to cater again.
