HUUUUUGE portions and they gave an extra piece of bread with the sandwiches! We got the hot pastrami and the turkey club. The turkey club was sooo delicious and tasted very fresh. The hot pastrami was also very flavorful, but not crazy salty which I enjoyed! I read some reviews that people thought the cut used in the pastrami was very fatty but mine was pretty lean.
This is basically a take out spot, so no place to sit inside.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nathan T.Weehawken, NJ1121Mar 11, 2024
Stopped at this place while in DC. The Pastrami for $23 is worth it. First of all it's basically two meals if you're an average eater. I even got an extra thick slice of bread. Don't know if that was intentional. I personally enjoyed the mixture of fat and meat. Lean pastrami is a dry pastrami.
I like the no nonsense vibe. Nothing is more irritating than having a customer in front of you changing the entire sandwich for their "special" needs. There are literally hundreds of other places to visit. This is a small family run deli, not Burger King.
I will be stopping by on future DC trips.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 2024
A small but mighty market with some of the best sandwiches for miles around! (Note: order ahead online to make your life and the employees' lives easier!) On a recent trip, I went all in and got a bunch of stuff, including:
- The kielbasa sandwich with sauerkraut and mustard. Very nice combination of spices and flavors in the kielbasa, amazingly soft and delicious bread and very flavorful toppings.
- A "pig in a blanket" - or a mildly spicy, delicious sausage inside a rich puffy dough
- A pirozhki, a version of an empanada/hand pie. This was amazing! The crust was flaky, buttery, with a beautiful egg wash and the inside was jam packed with beef hash, mushrooms, and potatoes (emphasis on the beef). Wish I'd bought more than one!
- Pastrami sandwich. This is the stuff of dreams. As everyone notes, it's over $20, but it's also enormous and filled with so much thick, melty, incredible pastrami that they throw an extra piece of bread in there because this is really a two meal/person sandwich. (That extra piece of bread is also why my attempt to break this in half for a picture is so bad.) It is a hefty sandwich, and even though it is hands down the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had, I did save some for later, which I don't think I've ever done before, but every bite was worth savoring.
All in all, an absolutely stellar experience.

My boyfriend and I tried Stachowski's for the first time this weekend while walking around Georgetown! This spot is a DC institution so we were excited to look around inside.
There are beautiful deli options inside. They have a great butcher selection, lots of packaged sausages and a good menu of hot and cold subs to order!
We split a hot Italian sausage sub and a pig in a blanket. Both of these selections just made me even more excited to come back and try more of their menu!
We also got a few packages of sausages and kielbasa to make at home, which have all been delicious so far!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 10, 2024
This is the home of the famous, giant pastrami sandwich. If you know of NYC's Katz Deli, their pastrami sandwich is the closest, in size and visual, in the DMV. However, there is a major caveat: There is no option to get lean meat only. Despite being listed as pumpernickel, our sandwich was on rye. There is a large sign that says no customization, no half sandwiches, which I find to be unnecessarily mean. I was surprised to see that their pickles were sitting in a large bucket on the floor. No space to stand up and eat so it is takeout only. Nice selection of sausage samples, seems to be a large selection in their freezer section all the way from duck to chorizo to Thai style sausages. The pastrami, with the fat content, for me is a pass. I get the $22 for the massive size and amount of meat. But this place doesn't replace Loeb's or Attman's for me, given no place to eat, no lean option, and pickles being very limited.

Cute store with very local feel! The grinder is amazing and should get five stars, but the pastrami is very fatty and not melt in your mouth at all. One or two stars at most. So the hype there might not be real but it's still a great place. We've gone to many somebody feed phil spots and my ultimate conclusion is that Phil is a sweet smart guy but maybe he should stick to comedy instead of food recommendations....

Excellent sandwich's from such a genuine establishment. Places like this is what make DC such a special place for food and culture of all places. Extremely clean and a great selection of meats cheeses and all thinks deli. My wife got the grinder which could easily feed 2-3 people I got the pastrami on pumpernickel great food for an even better value. Staff was very nice and speedy with service as well.

Prices are absurd for what you get. A sandwich will cost you anywhere from $15-24 and they will add a $1+ service charge to your bill.

My go-to spot if I am looking for a high quality, satisfying, delicious sandwich. I usually get the grinder, and it never fails. As you can see from most of the photos, these sandwiches are HUGE. So you're probably going to want to split it with someone or save leftovers for later.
The inside of the shop is cute too - small market offering a variety of goods. Friendly, fast service too!

Tiny market but huge assortment of unique foods and butcher shop.
Definitely georgetown prices but the quality of everything looks amazing! You have some excellent cheese from Vermont also. I was craving the Grinder sandwich (I'm a bit late to the trend I know), and this place did not disappoint! My only con is that I think they put way too much lettuce on the sub (I already like a lot of lettuce, but this was overwhelming). But their house sauce was so good-tangy and slightly sweet. The sub itself was as long as my arm and probably weighed like 10 pounds (prob from all that lettuce haha). The bread was good but don't let it get soggy!
Service was swift. The store was undergoing construction when I went, so it's easy to miss and think they're not open. Otherwise it's also very very small and unassuming.
