I fracking Love these people!
The Vet talks to you like you're a human being and not some failed animal caretaker.
And the best part YOU CAN TELL THEY ACTUALLY CARE!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura B.Northside, Jacksonville, FL01Jun 19, 2023
Horrible experience. they took
my deposit and agreeded to do a biopsy on my dog. two months past and no appt was offered. After a couple of calls and a change of Dr. they refunded money and dismissed him without cause. Racism? don't go thereHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rick D.Jacksonville, FL2483Jan 31, 2022
I have been a client here for years and have always received the best of care for my girl Gizzy. The staff here are dedicated to providing top notch veterinary care at an affordable cost.
Dr. Shelton is a highly talented veterinarian and surgeon and is capable of providing services often only found in veterinary specialty centers. She is able to ensure your pet gets the care needed while taking into consideration your financial abilities, designing a customized treatment plan for you.
Gizzy, my dog and travel companion, is special to me and I would only take her to a veterinarian that is trustworthy and will care for her as I would.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Davis L.Craven, Jacksonville, FL53114Jun 28, 2021
Genuinely caring veterinarians and vet techs. This place can be SUPER busy at times, which may limit your time with the vet (as a nurse, it is just about the same as a hospital as well.). I tried for quite a few days to get a urine sample from my chiweenie and was unsuccessful. One of the techs really did not try to get a sample for me after about 2 weeks of trying to get one myself. She told me everything would probably be ok anyways, which is what I thought myself. Anyways, the staff was ALWAYS SWEET to my dog and myself. Not to mention, they cured my heartworm positive rescue. The Vet was patient and explained about diet at our end treatment even though my utmost concern was getting rid of the heart worms. She took the time to actually show how to calculate caloric content of dog food to get a result in weight loss.
Bottom line-- they care and are very busy but will make time to explain more in-depth at a later time if an emergency case rolls in unexpectedly. I recommend this place/staff. They saved my angel and I am so grateful!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Courtney L.Saint Johns, FL13763Feb 1, 2021
I'm so upset. I've been trying to get forms filled out to keep my service animal and these people are anything but helpful. They don't return your calls, they hang up on you, when you do get someone on the phone they are rude and rush you off. I'm truly disappointed because I've been coming here for years and have never been treated so poorly as a client. It's been very unprofessional and I might as well take my pets to someone who actually cares about their job.
UPDATE: I had to create a new number with a text app to even get through to them because they blocked my calls to prevent helping me. Pathetic.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lori T.Jacksonville, FL04Jun 28, 2022
worst experience ever. they do not see emergency cases first. after over two hours waiting with very sick dog arrogant and condescending Dr Johnson comes in. no urgency to treat just wanted to get the estimate that did not include any treatment. plus they could not perform tests needed and we're going to have me come back. how ludicrous! my dog was so sick I left there and went immediately to another vet who went into action when he saw the urgency and ordered fluids and meds to be given while blood drawn for labs.
I feel that this long wait and uncaring attitude and lack of action seriously put my dogs life in danger. I recommend no one take an animal they love to this horrible place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gabby C.Jacksonville, FL01May 18, 2022
been going there for about 10 years now. you really have people that care about your pet there. They are understaffed but they do their best with what they have.

We could not ask for a better vet for our sweet golden doodle. Our first appointment was a walk in and we were seen pretty quickly. We got him neutered, and he had a few little complications (no fault of the vet) and they have treated him wonderfully. They suggested antibiotics and a session in the hyperbaric chamber. Prices are great and the people will truly love your baby.

My vet retired and I'd heard good things about St Francis and how caring they were, so I started taking my pet there. Around September 2021 at a pre-exam for a dental cleaning, the doc told me it appeared nothing major would need to be done, all appeared in good shape. When I went to drop my cat off for the dental, the woman receiving us (vet tech? receptionist?) told me to sign a paper that either 1) authorizes them to do whatever procedures they feel are needed (no max $ amount), or to call me beforehand for approval (and there was a blank for me to fill in). I asked to be called if teeth were to be pulled, and if the cost was to exceed $300. This woman crossed out the section I'd completed and told me I had to sign the remaining section, saying the appointment would cost a minimum of $500, and no, I couldn't talk to the doctor before the appointment (I wanted to ask about what was to be done). It was all very upsetting, and the woman who worked with us was terribly rude. We left, and won't be going back. I returned to my original vet (Julington Creek) and now, in May, I get a text from St Francis saying my cat is overdue for her Feline Leukemia vaccination (due Sept 2021) and a heart worm test (due Jan 2022). I asked my vet, and she told me Feline Leukemia is a young cat's disease and the vaccination isn't appropriate for my pet (she's 10 yrs). As for the heart worm test . . . there isn't one. There's just a dewormer, for cats who have heart worms. Go figure.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 8, 2018Previous reviewWe took two feral cats to St Francis to get checked out. They'd been hanging around our house, and one was quite obviously in need of help. The male's test results were sad (feline leukemia and AIDS), and we decided to put him down. The female's test results were clean - she received her shots and we took her home. All in all, a great bargain (about 50% the cost of our "regular" vet). They gave us a reduced cost because we brought in "wild" cats.
Yes, sometimes the wait is long. So you need to plan ahead and make an appointment. Just call them, leave your number, and get it scheduled. Everyone here is kind, compassionate, and anxious to help. We've been back several times (from Orange Park!). Really like the new facility. - Michelle M.Jacksonville, FL150495707Sep 15, 2016Updated review
I love the new space especially when compared to the old one. We are here for wellness visit and everything went fine. Staff was friendly. Visit was efficient and all our needs were met.
If you don't like waiting, make an appointment
If you're a walk in then don't grouse about the wait time. Walk in and Wait both start with the letter W for a reason.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Mar 7, 2016Previous reviewIt's okay. Wait times are long (2.5 hours on a Saturday morning), but they're working as fast as they can with the staff they have. Honestly, I'm glad they fit in my cat since we were walk ins. It's not a glamorous space but as long as they take care of my Meow, I am not one to growl about the service.
