This place is a joke!
My daughter brought her wedding dress there to be altered and it was nothing but a shit show!!
Place reeked of smoke and the quality of work was poor and last minute!
DO NOT go there!!

Merry, the owner of Specialty Sewing, is the most professional seamstress in Redding, California.

Not only is she open for business when others are closed, she completes customers' requests in a timely fashion, with beyond reasonable prices and a genuine smile.

Merry is so highly touted, she maintains the clientele of the first responders in Northern California. This speaks volumes! I highly recommend others bring their garments to Merry's Specialty Sewing.

I have taken multiple items to Specialty sewing over the years, she is getting over run right now, so please plan ahead. She is lovely and has helped in a pinch, but I generally only take her stuff that is a bit more complex than what I can do on my own. So glad we have her, hope we don't burn her out.

Price, I was compelled to pay almost
Twice what they asked.

I went to Merry to alter my wedding dress. It just needed to be hemmed, so I
left it with her expecting to receive a call 5 days later when she said it would be ready. Didn't receive a call but called her the next day (Saturday. It is closed weekends but I expected a voicemail but it was her cell) and she said she would get back to me Monday morning first thing but didn't. That was disappointing but once I arrived, the dress was PERFECT and she only charged me $38!! I will definitely be going again for any and all alterations.

Side note: I especially loved she was playing gospel music in the background!

I brought very expensive materiel in for Merry to make curtains for my new home. We brought the measurements of each window, and she seemed to ask all the right questions but then she called me several times confused as to what she was doing, especially when she had already cut my bedroom curtains out only allowing a 2" hem which was ridiculous!

I finally told her I was no longer comfortable that she could do the job and did not want to proceed (since she was charging almost $500 for the finished product). She had to nerve to argue with me saying she didn't think it was her fault.

Merry, it's YOUR job as the professional to make sure you understand exactly what the job is BEFORE you cut the material!!

I think I was gracious in allowing you to keep my material which is worth almost $400.00. So shame on you!

Took my father-in-law to get his suit altered and Merry was patient with him as he doesn't get around like he used too. We were on a time crunch and she had his suit ready in 3 days! I am happy to refer my friends for alternation. Thank you!

I was married last year and my dress was a hot mess Merry, fixed it and made it fit me like a glove. My sister was married recently her dress needed sleeves and bobbles, bows, and shiny things and she did it all; my sister was glowing and amazing in her dress. Thank you Merry!!!!

Her new location inside Urban Gypsy is a upscale resale Boho shop with lots of those bling jeans and super cool mid-century "what nots."
I was just by again today and her kind smile and great customer service I received, well I had to share.

Mary altered two dresses for me for my wedding, she is attentive and reasonably priced and did an amazing job on both dresses! Even after OKing the wedding dress and coming home with it, I still had a tiny problem with the waist (not having to do with her alteration, it was just the dress) and she took it back and fixed it no questions asked and did not charge extra. Awesome experience and would recommend!! She also changed my little sister's dress from a long gown into a hi-low and it looks incredible!!! Thank you Mary :)

I was told by a few other seamstresses that sequins could not be altered. Merry was able to take in, shorten and add darts to my sequins dress. Prices are fair and she gets the work done in a timely manner.
