Southport Smoke House

This location is just as great as I remember it being. My smoked chicken tonight was mouth watering good. My chicken was accompanied by mac and cheese and scrumptious banana pudding.

Every last one of the employees tonight had out of this world customer service skills. So friendly and big smiles on their faces!

Whenever we visit Oak Island, we gotta make a lunch stop at the Southport Smoke House. This charming wood smoked BBQ joint has all the meat and sides you could be looking for. BBQ, Brisket, Ribs, Smoked Chicken, Sausage, and sides from Potato Salad to Slaw to Fried Okra. You order your food at the counter and within a minute you have a big plate of goodness. They do offer sandwiches if you want a lighter option but I tend to always get a plate (with either 1 meat or two) which comes with 2 sides options and a few hush puppies. You only get like 3 hush puppies. Their hush puppies are divine. Soft inside and crunchy exterior. Fun fact, can get Hushpuppies as a side and I recommend it to get more as they worth it. My go to is the white meat smoked chicken and ribs. Always gotta get Mac and Cheese as one of my sides. It's creamy and satisfying.

The best thing about this place is the sauce bar. There are 7-10 sauces available for all your dipping pleasure. I recommend the Mustard BBQ, Tangy, and the Alabama White sauce. Whether you like sweet, spicy, tangy, whatever they got a sauce for you. And you can have as much as you want! The white sauce is very good on the chicken and the mustard on BBQ. Their food stands alone but I'm a sauce girl, so this just adds a big plus to the experience.

Delicious, moist BBQ. We ordered brisket, ribs and pulled pork 3 meat combo. Enough meat for 4 servings, but the 2 sides were enough to feed one person, so get more.

A great "hole in the wall" smokehouse. It was our group of 11 coming in around 5 and this place smelled awesome and looked like a homey traditional bbq smokehouse. They offered all the traditional meats and sides as well as family platters which we decided to order. Man, for the 11 of us all ate until we were full and we took food home. Their pulled pork and brisket tasted great. Their Mac-N-Cheese was awesome but so were the beans and the fried okra. The staff was great. They had a whole counter of sauces for the meat and the history behind where the various types of sauces come from. The restaurant is on the main road but signage isn't well lit and you may drive by it if you aren't paying attention. Worth the stop if you like some good southern bbq.

This is a great place for those who are short on time but want a great meal. The staff was friendly and the food came out almost immediately. They had excellent options for kids. There was plenty of seating for the whole family.

Good service and very clean. Prices were just OK, but it is 2023 and was off set by the large amount of food provided. Had left overs to take home - that almost never happens!

Tender juicy smoked chicken (good job by the cooking crew), brisket could have used more smokey-ness but was good, and the sausage was huge portion and very good. Need to ask next time if they make it themselves or procure elsewhere.

Will definitely return on future ferry trips from CB to charming Southport!

The BEST BBQ in the entire OKI area. Well worth the drive from the island to eat a meal here. Prices are great for the portions you are given. Love the assortment of BBQs to try, my favorite is the sweet. The best hushpuppies in the area as well! This is a must go to spot when we vacation here.

Everything I've ever had here is outstanding. My only criticism is that prices have skyrocketed, it seems more here than elsewhere.

Most of the time that beef brisket is just melt in your mouth. Amazing. There is a self service, sauces, bar, six or seven options and varieties for preferences around the country. Also, all you can eat pickles bar, which is delicious.

Best bbq in the whole state of NC! I've been to so many different places where the quality and flavor aren't there. This place checks all the boxes.
