South Boston yoga is wonderful! I thought that the people were nice and I had a wonderful hot yoga class with Val.
Her class has a great flow and she helps you explore your practice a bit which was fun. And I liked her positive energy! Feeling great after, I'll be back soon.
Thanks Val!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 1, 2019
I've been a regular at South Boston Yoga for close to a year now and I absolutely love it! I first took advantage of the awesome 2 week unlimited pass for new members for $25 and tried a few classes. I really love the Sunday night restorative yoga! Amanda is amazing, and between her calming voice and holding poses and stretches that I didn't even realize my body so desperately needed, it is the perfect way to feel ready for the week ahead!

I started coming here because it was convenient. At this point I can't imagine my life without it. Amy Coleman is my teacher of preference. She changed yoga for me. What set Amy apart from other teachers is her calm and illuminated spirit. It's obvious through her language and demonstrations that she is a devoted practitioner of yoga and meditation. Her understanding of human anatomy is deep and professional. Every pose she talks you through she knows intimately as well as the challenges that might come up.
Amy prepares for class so well that each pose flows fluidly into the next. Even the sound track compliments the mood.
The timing of her classes is so precise that the restorative shavasana (corpse pose) at the end is never cut short and is always well earned. That's important to me. The workout that Amy's class provides is a good one. Experts and beginners alike will find great inspiration and support from Amy.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 8, 2013
I cannot go more than 2 days without yoga, it balances me and keeps me happy.
So, when I was in town for work, I immediately checked out Yelp and found that this place was close to where I will be in Boston.
I came for a Vinyasa class at 4pm on a weekday. If you are a first-time student, class is only $5! Wow what a bargain.
There are 2 floors to the studio. The 1st floor is mostly for hot yoga and the 3rd floor for other kinds of yoga. The studio is spacious and very clean. You can rent mats and towels for $2 each. They also have water for sale and also a filtered water machine (which is free). The changing rooms are nice and also with a shower. There are lockers in the hallway if you need to stow something.
I really enjoyed the class. The instructor was good and she was able to teach the basics and also more advanced poses for those that were more experienced.
When I come to Boston and if I am in Southie, I will definitely come back to this studio again. I def got my Namaste on!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Amy B.Boston, MA557711630Dec 5, 2012
After a lifetime of hating yoga, I've become addicted to it thanks to South Boston Yoga.
I just think this studio is phenomenal. Every class has a thoughtful and well-constructed syllabus. The instructor progresses through a series of gradually more difficult poses that have all been chosen because they help students toward a specific goal. For example, one class might focus just on getting people ready for a headstand. This intelligent design of the course not only keeps me motivated, but it also has helped me improve my yoga much more quickly than any other studio I've tried.
In the past I've been turned off by yoga that I thought was too spiritual or not sufficiently athletic. I haven't had that problem at South Boston Yoga. Most classes do begin with breath work and "ohms." But this is integrated into the overall class sequence, and the breathing helps you work hard. I'm usually drenched in sweat by the end of practice (and I don't even do the hot yoga!).
That said, people of all levels of ability should be comfortable at South Boston Yoga. I am, quite frankly, not very good at yoga. But the teachers encourage you to adapt poses to your comfort and ability, and will help you progress over time. The classes are also large enough that probably no one is looking at you totally mess up your pose, so just pretend you meant to collapse on the floor in a sweaty heap (my signature move).
I've liked all of the instructors so far. I find myself attending a lot of David's classes and enjoy his sense of humor, but really, you can't go wrong.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Michelle P.Millburn, NJ3110612Dec 23, 2007First to Review
I don't work there, I'm just lucky enough to know so many wonderful folks that do. Does that make me biased? Yup! Does that mean I know what I'm talking about here? Absolutely.
5 stars for two reasons:
1. the awesome teachers and a well-rounded class schedule
2. its admirable business model of being 100% green and eco friendly, right down to the ink in the printers

Love South Boston Yoga! Definitely has that local community feel and I've had great experiences with the hot yoga classes here. They have many classes throughout the day and they're held on either the 1st and 3rd floors of the building. Amenities are fairly basic: changing rooms, bathrooms, water fountains, and places to store mats (if you're a member). Will definitely be back!

Jackie's Monday night acoustic class is the most amazing thing ever. I look forward to it every week; she is the most skilled, humble, warm teacher and the music in the class is just beautiful played by Erica!
I love how easy it is to check in and they have so many bolsters and props it is wonderful. I have not tried many other classes here as i stick to my Monday night but I thought Kitty was great, too! She also looks like Scarlet Johansen... has anyone else thought that?
Anyway, great studio!
Highly recommend.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Samantha C.Boston, MA4126033Aug 21, 2015
I've been attending classes here for years and always have a great experience.
All instructors and staff are helpful and friendly. They always take the time to help me get into a pose a little bit deeper or gently correct my posture if its off. They are welcoming of all levels so if you're new or worried about your skill level, this is a great place to start yoga.
They also have a good variety of classes throughout the day, so I'm always able to find one that fits my schedule.
The studios and bathrooms are always clean, and the ambience of the entire place will make you feel more relaxed the second you walk in.
If you're like me and struggle to get into a consistent workout routine, the ten class package is the best deal. It doesn't expire so you won't regret spending the money on it like often happens with gym memberships.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
