South Beach Bar & Grille

I love to go here for happy hour (weekdays 3-6pm, $2.95 tacos and half off appetizers) for amazing, thicc fish tacos with a great view. Even on Memorial Day, I was able to get seats for 3 right away. The "bar style" seating overlooks Ocean Beach but theres also plentiful patio and indoor seating (well spread out) for bigger groups and dogs. I like the Mahi and Wahoo taco on tortilla but you can also do corn. Each taco order comes with a side of beans and rice! I've tried the Baja taco (fried cod) and my friends like it but I think its too much breading in one meal if you also get the calamari strips. The chowder cup is great when its chilly because it's just soooo warm and hearty. The calamari strips are massive, crunchy, and good as shareable side (beware tho! the cocktail dip it comes with has a gallop of horse radish that hit me by surprise). The ceviche was a miss in our opinion- needs a lot of lime to be enjoyable and the chips were too oily. For drinks, I've tried and liked the Watermelon Patron Slushy, salt rimmed!

South Beach is honestly one of my favorite spots and I make sure to visit every time I'm in SD or showing a friend around the city. After your meal, walk down the boardwalk for local vendors selling tapestries, nomadic artwork, and kettle corn most days of the week. Parking in the lot is a hit or miss but there's plenty of street parking if you drive around and are willing to walk from residential nooks of Ocean beach. At night, I would not recommend walking alone, though.

Mahi and wahoo tacos are awesome. If I were to order them again I would ask for the crema on the side because it was too much for my liking.

Carne asada fries were ok. Calamari is good nice big strips but the breading was thick. Baby octopus was good we wanted to try it... the kids chowed it down

Super fun atmosphere amazing beach views. The fish and shrimp tacos were amazing.
Super friendly customer service very quick.
I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in town to try some other stuff on the menu.

We had some friends visiting from out of town so we of course took them to OB.  We stopped for lunch at South Beach Bar and Grille (why the "e" on the end of Grill, I do not know).  Anyway, here's what we had:

We started by sharing the Chips and Habanero salsa.  South Beach habanero salsa is excellent.  It carries a great heat with a great flavor.  It is not for the meek.  The chips that they serve are excellent as well.

Our friends had the Birria Taco plate, Grilled Mahi Mahi Taco and Grilled Shrimp Taco with rice and beans.  He loved his Birria tacos and I must say, they looked delicious.  His wife loved her Mahi Mahi and Shrimp tacos.  She gave the mahi mahi a slight edge over the shrimp, but loved them both.  She also had a Woodford Manhattan and she said the bartender made it perfectly.

I, too, had the Grilled Mahi Mahi taco and I added a Calamari taco.  The Mahi Mahi was superb.  The teriyaki marinade/pineapple combination makes for a very unique and tasty fish taco.  The Calamari taco was very good also, not quite as good as the mahi, but delicious nonetheless.  The rice and beans served with the tacos were on point.  I washed it down with a couple of pints of Pacifico.  Pacifico pints only 4 bucks!!

Becky very much enjoyed her Fried Shrimp and Fries.  I had some of it as well and the shrimp were very good.  Not too much batter and not greasy at all.  They used some big shrimps too.  The fries were good also.  It was a healthy portion of both.  Becky also very much enjoyed her Bloody Mary and the fact that it was only $5 made it even better.

Three pints of Pacifico, a Bloody Mary a Manhattan and all of that food was only $76.55 before tip.  Not even 20 bucks per person.

My only complaint about South Beach B&G is that they don't open until noon.

The food was good. The service was meh -- server was overwhelmed and they needed more staff. Views are amaze!!

Good food, great view, and good prices but the service is horrible!! Went back to back nights hoping the service would get better but it was even worse. Sad because no food is good enough or prices low enough to waste an evening waiting for everything you order.

The chicken taco better than carne asade one but for 3 bucks can't complain!  I ordered a spicy marg, wasn't spicy at all but hey tequila is tequila! We didn't have a view but that's ok. Came for food and was excellent!

Very hectic to try to find our own seating on a Friday night (not sure if it's always like that or they didn't have a host that day?). My hubby ordered a pina colada which wasn't the best, I got a Moscow mule which was very ginger-y, my favorite. Views were good. The fish tacos were amazing!

Great food, good drinks, fresh seafood and great view for sunset. Staff was super nice, great service and super sweet and accommodating for our dog.

The lobster taco is EVERYTHING!!!! ~$8 for the lobster taco but I swear 1 taco + beans and rice was enough for me but I couldn't resist getting that and the fried cod taco as well. Both very yummy but lobster taco stole the show. The next best thing aside from the lobster tacos is probably the mahi mahi taco. Teriyaki and pineapple with mahi is tooooo good of a combo. Must try. OH and the view! How could I forget. So nice to have some fresh seafood with an ocean view. Can't beat it.
