Sorenson Unity Center us a gorgeous building located in the Glendale neighborhood. I'd never really been over in that neck of the woods before because of things I'd heard, but a friend invited me to a fitness class and I;ve been hooked ever since.
The Unity Center is a community gathering place. There are fitness classes, a gym, classes and cultural celebrations. I hear there are even medical and dental services for under-insured people.
I go there for the Sunday morning Zumba. Lupe, the instructor, is phenomenal. I have never felt so warmly welcomed and not judged at all. The ladies in the class ere also quite welcoming and have been going there for a long time. And at $4.50 a class, it's a steal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephanie J.Midvale, UT8515068May 8, 2017
The parking lot is a little small for the building, but other than that, I like it!! I have been here a few times to see different productions in their small theater room. I have not used the gym facilities or taken classes.
The building itself it kept relatively clean and the grounds are well maintained. The restrooms are clean, which is always a plus.
The small theater room is really nice. It is dark but the lighting inside is perfect for productions. Obviously I can't mix the reviews for productions here with the building, but I believe the lighting and sound are part of the building itself. I have nothing but praise for the set up.
I also have had a few interactions with the staff, who all have been friendly and helpful. Thumbs up, guys!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alicia B.Salt Lake City, UT69357399Feb 20, 2018
Very nice and clean building. Only came here for the free VITA Tax preparation. My appointment was at 7pm and I didn't get in Union about 7:50pm so I was definitely disappointed with the wait. However once I was in it only took about 15 minutes to complete. I've used VITA for years and I love their program!

This is a nice center, very clean, nice gym however some of the guys who workout there are a bit creepy to women. One guy in particular would not leave me alone and would constantly stare at me, interrupt my workout, it felt like stalking because he just happened to appear shortly after I entered the gym. I was forced to threaten reporting him to the staff and then he finally left me alone... I realize the staff can't do much about members but afterwards I saw him making several other girls uncomfortable in the gym so much so they would also leave shortly after he appeared. Needless to say I have decided to workout at the Northwestern location due to the fact that this guy can't seem to leave women alone. It's intimidating enough to go to a gym and lift when all guys surround you we don't need to be harassed and stared at the whole time.

This review is specifically in regards to the ages 6-18 Tae Kwon Doe program.
It meets two days a week- Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The beginner class is from 6pm-7pm.
The intermediate/advanced class is from 7pm-8pm.
The cost is $15 dollars per month.
The instructor's name is Paco, and he is patient and a very good teacher. He is assisted by some of the upper level students.
My kids love it- the class really pushes them because it incorporates exercise, stretching, tae kwon doe forms, self-defense, and board breaking.
It makes my two sons feel confident, and also helps them to set goals.
Paco (the instructor) emphasizes that the purpose of the class isn't to just "get belts". He invites the kids to consider the merit of what they are working towards.
I have been going there for a year and a half with my kids, and I give this program and it's instructor my highest recommendation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily B.Salt Lake City, UT24936Jun 5, 2014
This is one of the many options offered under the Salt Lake County Rec Center umbrella. I pay $30/month for unlimited access to all of their rec centers which I guess isn't too bad. I started going to this one because it has more room to lift weights but now it seems every time I go there, half of their treadmills are broken or working poorly. They have had the same treadmills with "out of order" signs on them for what seems like months! I understand that I only pay $30/month but why don't they fix the treadmills? Also, this location and the one in Holladay are dirty. It seems like they've never used a vacuum in there or don't care enough to make it look presentable.
The equipment certainly isn't state of the art, despite them raising the rates $5 more dollars a month from last year but it's not terribly expensive for what you get. I'm debating renewing my membership next year due to the constant broken equipment and dirty floors but they do offer a wide variety of classes that are included in the membership so it's definitely something to consider.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - T M.Bountiful, UT012Nov 27, 2015
I don't personally attend this gym but my 82 year old grandfather does and the staff and management have taken care of hm and offered phenomenal customer service. I can't begin to express how much this means to us and how good much if a relief it is knowing there are still good business out there that are willing to go the extra mile for their customers when it could possibly be easy to take advantage of them!
