1/24/2020Updated reviewCalled again 1/23, which is now 8 weeks after placing an order on 11/22 that had an estimated delivery time of 5-6 weeks. Costumer support sent me an email today (1/24) saying they placed the order and I should receive aligners in about 5-6 weeks.
So, I've been wearing the same set already for 12 weeks and the plastic is in extremely rough shape and now I'm expected to continue to wear them for another 6 weeks. It's almost as if the original order was never placed and I've called them 4 times since November and only now is something being done about it. They are polite on the phone with their scripting but this is terrible and incompetent costumer service. I called early January and someone guaranteed me delivery by January 17th. A gentleman through Yelp reached out saying I should have them by 1/23 at the latest and he would see about getting them to me earlier. My previous review mentioned inconsistent information commonly being given, so case and point.
Another 4 months in aligners just got added to the overall plan and in the mean time I still have to wear aligners 23 hours a day, with all the inconvenience that comes with it, while no actual "treatment" is happening. My NINE month treatment plan is currently in month TWENTY with no end in sight. Again, buyer beware.

I signed up for what should have been a 9 month treatment plan, and that was two years ago. Every revision takes about 2 months before you actually receive a new set to continue the plan, so every 2 month extensions takes about 4 months to complete. I am on my 5th revision. For a while my front teeth were so misaligned I couldn't cut food with my front teeth, so that needed to be fixed.
Eventually everything moves but expect the quoted time frame to be MUCH longer than what they tell you. The smile centers are good with costumer service, but dealing with the costumer service representatives online or over the phone can be frustrating and often (very often) they give you different information at different times.
Sometimes the shipment will say 4-5 weeks, and then the time changes to 5-6 weeks. Currently I'm waiting on week 6 and they told me there was a delay, so maybe 7-8 weeks before I have a new set. In the meantime a customer is expected to wear the same set of aligners for this duration, and they begin to break down, get rough, and wear out. It's unpleasant to have broken plastic in your mouth for months on end, a good aligner cleaner daily is absolutely essential.
It's certainly cheaper than going to an orthodontist, but you pay for what you get. Slow service, poor customer support, and multiple delays and stalls in treatment make the time frame longer than expected (in my case 1 year 3 months and counting). Great for simple gap adjustments, beyond that consider a professional orthodontist. I've recommended it to friends for simple adjustments only.
Update: I had to have the case "escalated" with management and they offered me a free retainer after treatment is complete (hopefully I won't need another revision) and guaranteed I would have my aligners rushed and receive them at the latest on 1/17. The last time I called there was no change, so at least they are trying.
Update: Back down to two stars. I called again today 1/15 because I still haven't received shipment confirmation. Now they "don't know when" I will receive my shipment, again because there is a delay. It's now been over two months since my order was placed. This is the standard, not the exception, with this company in my experience.Read more

7/8/2020Worst company I have ever worked with. Never got my impression kit even had them send me another one. Never received it while getting emails and texts everyday telling me that they still haven't received the impressions kit. HA joke. And the hold times are Lomé 45 min at a time!! Is everyone calling you guys about how bad your service is as well or is that just me? I cancelled they said I have to wait 7 days to get my money back while STILL getting texts and emails asking where my impressions kit is. I've cancelled it about a week ago and have gotten 3 texts and 3 emails asking where my impression kit is since cancellation! I Love CANDID. A lot more smooth and great customer service. I would recommend trying that company and throwing this one is the trash.

7/12/2020This company is the absolute WORST! I started my journey in October 2019. This was a big step for me given that I am a college barely making ends meet. When I first signed up everything was fine. 2 months later I noticed my aligners were deformed, I asked if I can either cancel or get new aligners since I needed my teeth to be straight by graduation. They declined the want for a cancellation and set up an appointment for new ones. (This happened from November all the way to February) When I got my new set I barely got a month in. On top of that my gums were receding and bleeding constantly. I ended up having the same issue. I demanded a refund as well as a cancellation because during this whole time my teeth remained the same. No change at ALL. They then asked me to send in my unused aligners and they will cancel the subscription and issue out a refund. Once the subscription was cancled they then demanded over $700 from me saying that is what is left for me to pay THEM!! After trying to professionally explain to them that their product did not work and that my gums are completely messed up (even sending them pictures of it) they wanted money from me. They keep taking money out of my account after promising me that they will no longer do that. This entire process has been a nightmare and I highly request those who are thinking about it to not. I am not one to leave reviews but at this point I am disappointed. They stopped returning my emails and phone calls and will not answer me anymore.

We would like to clarify that all of our customers are presented with a SmilePlan that demonstrates the scope of treatment that our dentists and orthodontists project can be accomplished within our protocol and that it is not possible to guarantee a timeline for any orthodontic treatment, as there is no way to predict exactly how fast or slow teeth will move. In addition, each customer is presented with a consent and history document to read and sign before beginning treatment that details the limitations of our protocol.
Customers are eligible for full refunds if the aligners are returned within the first 30 days. After the 30 days have passed, we offer either the re-evaluation as mentioned, or a prorated refund. The prorated refund is based on how many unused aligners are returned, as any used aligners must be purchased. If there are no unused aligners to return, the Account Manager will review the case and reach out to the customer with further instruction. I felt as if my $2,000 was certainly wasted. However, SmileDirect has exceptional customer service and they quickly remedied my issue! Thank you!

7/6/2020Awful experience from the start. Started off very slowly and took months to get the treatment started and after almost a year of pain and looking silly my teeth did not change at all. I asked to close the gap in the front top teeth and they sent me more bottom teeth alignments than top ones which was a red flag. After sending them a pic of how my front gap hasn't changed they told me it was my fault that I jumped into a tighter aligner a few weeks earlier than I should and that's why... I asked for some type of refund since I ended up going to my dentist and having them fix the issue which cost me quite a bit but they told me that they are going out of business and they cant help me anymore tough luck even though it says directly on the website satisfaction guaranteed or money back. Do not purchase through this company of liars and thieves just to save a few dollars it will just end up wasting your time and money.

First and foremost, we would like to clarify that it is not possible to guarantee a timeline for any orthodontic treatment, as there is no way to predict exactly how fast or slow teeth will move. You find this in traditional orthodontics as well. That said, in the event that one is unsatisfied with their results, we offer re-evaluations for additional alignment. Re-evaluations are complimentary if requested within 30 days after completing treatment and if the aligners were worn as prescribed. Full refunds are only guaranteed if the aligners are returned within the first 30 days after receiving them.

After returning the product not only did I not receive a refund I found out yesterday they sent the account to collections which is impacting my credit score. I will give them 10 days to correct this otherwise I will be filing a small claims case this is beyond ridiculous.

7/18/2019Previous reviewWhere do I start? 9 months later and still they can't fix the issue. They were great during sign up and sale. If you have an issue, game over. The second month in I could no longer wear the aligners. 9 months later...no resolution or refund. Today I am told to wait another 3-5 business days as the customer service Rep calls me Steven lol. All I could do was laugh. My name is Ryan. They don't even know who they are talking to while making a ton of false promises. I have spoken with multiple people at this organization who all promise the world and everything will be fixed. Then, silence. If you get the aligners and they fit great then you'll be happy and lucky. If you have an issue....well....good luck. Cause they do not care at all. I bet if I stopped payments someone would call right away.

1/28/2020My initial appointment was fairly seamless, and the instant scanning to get a 3D model of your teeth was much improved over having to sit with putty trays in your mouth. My difficulty began when I wanted to apply a gift card I had been given to my payment. I was told by my SmileGuide that I would be able to apply the gift card online, after my appointment and before I was charged for the plan.
Unfortunately there wasn't anywhere online to apply the gift card, and I was charged without being able to apply it. I called the customer service line, gave them the info and was told they would take care of it.
After a couple of weeks with no change/refund, I called again. The person I reached was apologetic, said they would look into it and would call me back later in the day. I never received a call back.
After a third call, I reached a helpful representative who assured me she would apply the gift card and refund the amount. Several days later I finally received a refund, but it is for $100 less than my gift card amount. Once again I need to call to sort this out. Hopefully only one more time.
My aligners have been fine, but dealing with billing issues has been a nightmare.

5/31/2019They tell you that they will let you approve your treatment plan and make any adjustments necessary after showing it to you. They just sent aligners to me before sending the plan for approval. They did not address the problems I had with my teeth, but they continued to charge me. Today they offered to stop charging me provided I send the aligners back at my cost, but they will not refund the $562.95 they have already charged me.
These people are crooks.

I Just called today to see if they got my pics today. Told No way to tell. I can tell you that I am following the program to the letter and I am getting very doubtful that this program will work . 4/10/2020Smiledirect club makes promises of providing ental orthodontic services at a reduced price and if you are not satisfied with results you get your money back. They give you 30 days to request the full refund but it takes time to move teeth and there is no way to know if the results will be satisfactory or not unless you allow time. I called immediately after receiving aligners to express my concern that there was no lower aligner. The customer service rep assured me that I should try the aligners and if not satisfied, I would receive a refund. I called again and was told they would contact provider and get back to me but that took some time and I have yet to speak to a dentist. Dental treatment requires a trained professional and I have never been seen by a dentist nor have i spoken to one. After stalling beyond the 30 days, I am now being told that I will not get a refund because I only have 30 days to qualify for refund..I sent pictures to prove that the teeth were not straight and that I have an overbite and an overjet but I am still denied the refund. They insisted on corrective aligners but I lost confidence in their false promised and requested the refund I was told I would receive. They insist there is no satisfaction guarantee policy and nor guarantee of a refund. This company is preying on the public and counting on them not ending the automatic payments as it will affect their credit rating. These are preying people who want a better smile and expect them to pay even if they do not get what they were promised. Even if I do not receive the refund, I want this predatory behavior to be addressed. In most states dental treatment has to be administered by a licensed dentist. There is a dentist in name only associated with this scam service and he refuses to contact the patient. The dentist is paid to let the businessmake the calls and he is failing his patients by letting big business dictate treatment and treatment outcomes. This company has had numerous complaints butno one has been able to addressthe fact that they are preying on uneducated, unsuspecting citizens. They need to be controlled for those who are satisfied with the esthetic changes they receive and stopped for those who are not getting the treatment they need and deserve.

7/29/2019My 4 months to 3 years. Multiple re-evals, 2-3 months delay with the aligners. My teeth is shifting since last set cant endure daily use. Did email, chat, and call, even fb DM... all they say is there's a major delay and they are working on it. It's been 6weeks and im not sure if the aligner would still fit once it arrives as my current aligners is now broken and going to trash. Im suspecting this is a delay tactics for them to stop sending me aligners since it takes long for my teeth to be fixed.

7/18/2019I showed up for an appointment at 3:00 PM at the We Work office space in DC. I was told that somebody from smile direct would come greet me. Me and another client waited for an entire hour along and nobody showed up for either of us.

1/23/2020I am disappointed to hear after the evaluation that it would take 4 months to adjust my daughters teeth for the same price of someone that uses the program for 12 months. There is no pro-rating factors, extremely disappointing and will not move forward .

She was just so personable and really made me feel like a valued client; more like family! After thoroughly explaining the process, she took the scan of my teeth, let me take photos with my phone and adjust the angles to see my own teeth and gave me and awesome swag bag. She also shows me how my box would come and what's in it! All too often the interaction between a client and customer service rep is taken lightly but she was beyond amazing, I believe she's a great asset to the company and hope to come across more great people such as her self in other places I shop or attend.

The initial aligners that were sent to me were for a totally different person. Meanwhile, they have no problem taking money out of my account. Don't waste your time on this product!

5/15/2019Previous reviewSmile Direct Club is a Total Scam! The only aligner that fit correctly was from week 1. It was time for me to transition to week 2's aligner, but as soon as I put it in my mouth it was quickly apparent that it was made for someone else's mouth! I contacted Smile Direct Club with pictures of how the aligners fit and they told me to move on to the next weeks aligner. Week 3/4's aligner also fit the same way! It wouldn't even fit in my mouth correctly! Don't waste your money or your time with Smile Direct Club. You'll just be disappointed in the end.

7/1/2019My initial meeting with the Smile Direct Club was great. I got my evaluation, we talked about my aligner plan, I was approved, it was affordable, and I started up fast.
I was so excited to have my new smile after 5 months.
I got to month two week one, opened up the bag and I had two bottom teeth aligners and no top aligner. I called Smile Direct to speak to someone about sending me the proper aligners. The girl I spoke to was laughing the whole time about the mistake. It wasn't professional. I asked how long it would be to get my replacement aligners and I was told 10-14 business days.
I contacted them the next day to see about getting them expedited because I didnt want to lose progress on my teeth. They told me there was nothing they could do to expedite the procedure.
I could understand if the mistake had been mine. If I had lost my aligners or broken them. This mistake was on them and the lack of care I experienced when speaking to multiple people about this was ridiculous. Mistakes happen but as a company you should do everything in your power to remedy the mistake. You take care of paying customers. Especially for the price of these aligners.
I was told I'd receive a tracking number for my new aligner box and that was two weeks ago. Still nothing.
I received an email asking if I would recommend Smile Direct to others and I stated what happened and have heard nothing from this company.
I am so disappointed and upset by the lack of care. I can't recommend them. I am paying for a service I am not receiving and each day that passes is another day I am behind. I have no idea if my aligners have even shipped. It's ridiculous.
