I'd been looking forward to trying Skrimp Shack since May and I finally made it over there today! It's located in an unassuming strip mall in North Durham, and there is plenty of parking and a couple of picnic tables outside. You order at the counter and there are about a dozen tables to choose from as well as a longer barstool area with additional seats facing the window.

I ordered the Skrimp and Whiting basket which comes with one side. I selected hush puppies, but the woman at the counter let me know that hush puppies come with the basket, so I took this to mean that I should select a different side (hence the mac and cheese). I think there was some miscommunication since I was charged for an additional side, but no biggie. My husband ordered the Skrimp Poboy with fries.

We waited about 15 minutes for our food to arrive and I was amazed by the large portions on my basket! For $7.95 it's a lot of food! The Skrimp and whiting were nicely fried and tasted fresh, and I really liked the hush puppies. I just wish there was bit more seasoning to everything; without the sauces on the side, everything was sort of bland. The mac and cheese was creamy but the noddles were overcooked.

James' poboy was a good size as well, but it was drenched in their sauce, which masked the flavor of the shrimp and made it especially messy to eat. The sauce they use on their poboy is really unique, and I'm not sure I'm a fan. It reminds me of a Vidalia onion dressing and lacks the usual kick of spice from a more traditional remoulade. Unfortunately, the fries weren't ready at the time the sandwich was brought to the table, and we were told they'd be out momentarily. Fifteen minutes later, my husband goes up to the counter to ask about them and they had forgotten to put them in the fryer. Not the end of the world, but it would have been nicer to have them with the meal.

Overall, I think Skrimp Shack is a decent fast-causal addition this area of town.

This is the best fish restaurant in a 2000 mile radius of Durham NC. If you haven't tried their fish, then you haven't had the most amazing fried fish in the world.

The Rockfish and Skrimp Po Boy is to die for!!! I requested that the rockfish be cooked medium and the sauce on the side for take out. Most definitely get lettuce and tomato, not a tartar sauce chick. Ask for the red sauce which is slightly sweet and spicy.

      Best ever! Seafood and service.
Shrimp tacos are the best I've had.
      Two people eat for $25.
Macncheese the creamiest. Slaw is even outstanding!
      Accommodating to allergies.

Under new membership - all the food tastes different, sized different, whole different feel. I tried the Big Cat sandwich and almost couldn't finish - and I'm a big dude!

This is NOT catfish. I have no clue what kind of fish it is, but it's catfish. I took it back once and they said it was. It was very thin. Kind of flavorless. I suggest a different type of fish if you go there.

      Supposed to be Catfish.
      Catfish supposedly. Hmmmmm

A good place for reasonably priced seafood.

Really enjoyed how the fried taste wasn't too strong and balanced well with the light taste of the seafood.

Definitely recommend if you're into fried seafood!

First and last time. Wanted some shrimp and fish (tired of chicken). The woman who took my order was very impatient and rushing me through my order and decision. I asked her how big was the catfish (I was trying to get the gist of which size to get) she didn't tell me and then went to kinda do something with her hands then stopped with eyes rolled. I just chose based on what I thought. Ends up, the catfish are nuggets not like one or two big pieces of catfish. This wasn't communicated to me and I'm actually disappointed. Catfish skin is soft/soggy and not crunchy at all. The drinks taste like the machine hasn't been cleaned, has a nasty after taste in the throat. Also, tartar sauce is sweet, YUCK!

My still full plate because I'm not enjoying this honestly.
