Q:
What is the ratio of caregiving staff members to the number of patients in this facility? And what type of medical services are available on site?
A:
I do not know the exact number but there were more caregivers on site then three other facilities that I frequented over the last two years. There was always a nurse on site when I visited and always one available when I called.

I placed my mother in this facility almost a year ago and she's happier than she's ever been since my dad died three years ago. The staff is loving and caring and makes me feel like part of their family. They were very helpful and supportive to my family during the difficult transition of placing my mom in a home, and they continue to be attentive and responsive to my mom's needs. They've managed to stabilize her unique medical and emotional needs and she's even been able to keep her dog with her. I'm so relieved to have found this place for my mom. She finally seems to be thriving and happy again.

Hi Sherry, thank you for sharing. We're happy to hear that your mother is thriving and enjoying life at Silverado with her pup! Our inspiration comes from seeing how our efforts have helped those we serve. Hearing from patients' families inspires us to reach new heights of accomplishment.

I wish I could give a million stars to Silverado, because There are no words to describe how special Silverado is to my family and I. My grandfather was a resident here from 2014-2015 and he received the best care & was treated with the utmost respect.
Silverado is a BEAUTIFUL location that feels more like a hotel or resort than a memory care facility. When visiting, it feels like you are stopping in and visiting your family, because the staff is so attentive to the residents and they become family. They constantly make sure the residents have activities and there is something for everyone, which was so important to us. We wanted to know that each time we left the facility that our Grandpa would have personalized care & attention and wouldn't be stuck doing activities that he didn't want to or be left out. At Silverado this is never an issue because they have many events & activities going on at all times.
Some of the events include nightly live music (perfect to combat "sundowners"), cooking class, exercise class, yoga, spa day, board games, dancing, plays and not to mention the best happy hour and holiday parties in town (my mom and I LOVED going and dancing with the residents and enjoying a beer during the happy hours!)
Another important factor was how much they involve the families. We loved the holiday parties & happy hours and felt like we could stop by anytime.
We also loved how each resident was treated with so much dignity. The staff dresses the residents up each day and most of the residents feel as though they are in a hotel and not a memory care home.
The staff also encourages each resident to decorate their rooms with personal touches so they can talk to the residents about things from their past. (My grandpa's room was decorated in all Nebraska memorabilia and had pictures of his track running days).
I cannot say enough how Silverado is the right choice for a loved one and would recommend it to anyone!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Allie, we can't say "thank you" enough for this review. There is a goal we all strive to meet in providing care for both our residents and their families, and hearing firsthand from you about your grandfather's experience is such a wonderful affirmation to our whole team.

Doesn't surprise me this place is under new management. The old management nearly killed my wife the first day she was there in 2016.
My wife had lewy-body dementia and I was caring for her solo nearly six years...one 740 day stretch without a break. I was sold on placing her at Silverado for respite care for a few days so I could catch my breath.
I submitted in writing to the staff that my wife had lewy-body dementia--a form of the disease where the host incessantly walks non stop--and she could not fully articulate what she was thinking. I put in writing that they need to keep a close watch on her, because she would walk to San Diego if no one would stop her. They assured me she was in good hands.
The first night, I couldn't sleep because I wasn't used to her not being with me. I called them at 11pm to ask how it was going, and they told me "she's ok, she's just walking around the facility." I told them, someone has to put her to bed, she will walk all night if no one does." I was going to come down, but they assured me all is well. I told them to make sure the shift change at 2am knows which they said they would.
I called at the night shift at 2am and again asked how my wife was doing. " She's good...she's just walking around the facility..." I lost my temper and told them again, she must be placed in bed...They later called me to tell me they did. They said no one told them about her condition and no heads-up from the previous shift.
I didn't sleep my first night of "respite" so I decided to go to the facility at 5:30 am. You guessed it, she was walking around and I took control of the situation. She saw me and smiled but I could tell she was exhausted. I fed her breakfast at the facility and had words with management. They once again assured me all was well, that they would watch her and I would be able to go home and sleep.
I went home, desperate for sleep. I was to pick her up at 8pm to conclude the 24hr respite period, but intuition told me to go see her at 2:30pm. I went and found--
--she was outside the facility, by the south gate, wandering around in the heat alone. She didn't know how to get back in. I called to her, she saw me, and started walking to me, crying. She was overheated and exhausted. I had water with me, gave it to her and she gulped it down, still crying. I immediately put water on her arms and face to cool her off, and literally carried her out of the facility.
When I got her home, her legs were red and chaffed from all the walking she did, and her feet and hands were swollen. I estimated she had walked 13 hours of the 20 she was there. I called the facility and chewed them out, sending them pictures of her I took as I rescued her from the facility.
They weren't impressed apparently...,and insisted I pay for their "care'.
My wife passed away last year, and this was the most horrifying experience we had during her six years of care. I'm glad the management of this group is no longer in control of this facility.
Damn them to hell for what they did to my wife.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cj G.Los Angeles, CA224Jun 18, 2018
Silverado is the standard of what a Memory Care should embody. Their care exemplifies dignity and humanity; treating each of their residents with individualized care and attention.
I have worked in hospice for a number of years and have seen many senior communities (specifically memory cares), and Silverado without question is head and shoulders above the rest.
In addition, I have always seen their employees happy. Silverado's values can be seen in the work of their caregivers, nurses up to their administrative staff. The culture feels family based.
This organization strives for excellence in every inch of their endeavors can clearly be seen. I would undoubtedly trust the staff at Silverado with my loved one. I would encourage anyone to at least take a tour and experience for yourself what this beautiful community is about.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Silverado was an incredible experience for my father and our whole family even though it was short lived. Silverado's staff is top notch, experienced and comforting at an extremely difficult time. My father, who had dementia, had fallen sick with infection and because of his dementia and it's associative behaviors, was bounced from assisted living to a hospital to skill nursing to a hospital back to skilled. Nobody wanted to treat him holistically and sent him elsewhere particularly because of behaviors. Silverado was the only exception. They are the only ones willing, trained and experienced dealing with dementia and it's associated behaviors. We only wished we could have got him there sooner. I know he would have had a better outcome. Silverado's partnership with Hospice if the Valley made the difference at the end. Dad died comfortably and peacefully and Silverado made arrangement for my mother and the family during his final days. Thank you Silverado!!
I highly recommend anyone who has a family member suffering with dementia to look into Silverado, particularly if they have behavioral issues. There is no better place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Chris, thank you for sharing your story and your interactions with the community. We're honored you chose us to care for your father, and what you describe is the kind of atmosphere we aim to deliver to all of our residents.

Silverado Memory Care is a great resource for our senior community here in Scottsdale. I've had the pleasure of having a client of ours recently move into Silverado. We had been proving care to him at home but it became too much financially and emotionally on his spouse. It makes me feel good knowing that although we aren't caring for him that he is in the good hands of the Silverado staff. P.S. If you are considering a Memory Care facility for a loved one Silverado is the best for many reasons but their policy with pets is so wonderful. The emotional therapy a pet provides is so wonderful and Silverado makes sure that pets are welcome.

Hi Jude, thank you for recognizing our associates and the amazing care that they provide. Pet therapy is a cornerstone to our unique philosophy of care and our community pets bring smiles to our residents' faces every day. We love our furry friends! Thank you for your comments.

Silverado Memory Care is very unique in ways that make a huge difference in memory care. First of all, their staffing ratios are like no other and their staff numbers directly correlate to the population. There are staff members everywhere which allows for more freedom and dignity for the residents. This also allows for an abundance of activities that are cognitively stimulating and bring many smiles. There is always a joyful vibe in this community. On any given day you will hear music (usually live), you will see family members visiting and participating in activities, children throughout, dogs happily roaming around, fresh cookies being eaten, and residents enjoying the outdoors in the open courtyard. They go above and beyond to meet the needs of each and resident and provide incredible support for loved ones. My experiences as an Eldercare agent have been nothing but positive for my clients, their families and myself.

Laura, we really appreciate your kind words about our care and how our associates treat residents. It is very true that providing care is not just a job for us, and having that recognized warms our hearts and fills us with pride.

Wow! I work in the healthcare field and have visited many assisted living / memory care communities and this place is nothing short of a home like atmosphere. They have taken care of few of the patients I have referred to them and I have heard nothing but positive feedback from the families. The moment you step inside this community you feel welcomed. The atmosphere is nothing short of family like. From the very first interaction, it was apparent that Silverado staff treat their residents and guests like they are their own family members. All staff that I had a chance to interact with have been very friendly, compassionate, professional and polite, courteous and great to deal with. It is clean and smells nice. I love the personal touches all around the community and my goodness the effort the staff puts into making each residents room personalized is amazing. Also, each time I have visited there is always some type of activity going on and music playing. This is just a lovely community.

My father lived at Silverado Scottsdale Memory care for approximately two years beginning in mid-2014. We are so happy we found a good home for him and we are completely satisfied with the fine overall care they provided to him throughout his stay, and especially as his dementia progressed. Silverado management emphasizes dignified care and has put systems in place to achieve that. The medical staff is proactive, experienced and knowledgeable, and were always on top of any medical issue my dad developed. Just as important, the caregivers at Silverado are truly compassionate and were always attentive to my dad's day-to-day and hour-to-hour care needs. I could write all day about the above-and-beyond efforts the administrative, medical, and caregiving staffs made for the welfare of my father. There was never a day where I doubted that my dad was properly cared for, or where I worried whether the staff was acting in his best interests. He lived in two other assisted living/memory care communities before we discovered Silverado. Those prior facilities fall well short of the standards we experienced at Silverado. Silverado was a great place for my dad. He remained dignified, loved and properly cared for until he left us.

I had the distinct pleasure of putting my late husband at Silverado. The staff is very professional. The quality of care excellent and the food much better than average. Silverado is the complete package. They even have a bereavement group for after your loved one passes. I cannot say enough for Silverado.
