9/22/2021Updated reviewIt's been almost 2 years since I was able to sit down and eat at the sushi bar at Shiro's. I came around last year, but only had their takeout (which is delicious btw!)
Came in with a reservation for a party of 4 for dinner. (Reserve through Resy, I saw that it has more times than Google). We were seated in their sectioned room which had 5-6 tables.
They only served the 19 pc omakase, but you can ask for the a la carte menu after to add on different fish they might have!
The omakase meal was great. My favorites included: albacore tuna, salmon, katsuo (bonito), tuna 4 ways, ikura, and unagi. From the a la carte, I liked the ora king salmon they had. I also grabbed another ikura :) Staff had recommended another eel, but I thought it was only ok.
Overall, meal was great. It was definitely a bit different than our previous times sitting at the bar and getting handed each piece by the chef, but COVID, so makes sense. I think next time I'm in town, will wait for the opportunity to eat at the bar again :)
Appreciate the entire staff at Shiro's! Whoever is running their instagram page, thank you! They were helpful in answering my questions during COVID, since I was just waiting to get back :)
Street parking only.
8/22/2019Previous reviewAug 2019 update:
-Went to Shiro's again for another round of omakase
-Waited in line to sit at the bar and had Chef Aaron again serve a delicious meal
-Attentive staff this time around
-Excited to come back in October :)
7/23/2019Previous reviewTLDR: Best omakase in Seattle. Best bang for your buck!
My order: Omakase, I told Chef my preferences toward fatty fish and my dislikes toward some others (crab, shrimp, scallop, uni)
Pros:
-Fresh fish
-Attentive chefs if you sit at the bar
-Ask for sea perch, Chef Aaron blew my mind
-You can get away about $125-$150/ head, with alcohol, eating 20+ pieces
Cons:
-Uni doesn't seem that fresh so I kind of avoided, also one of the more pricey pieces
-Waiters don't do too much, so I would suggest you sit at the bar
Tips:
-They do not take reservations for the bar, show up about 30 min before they open and you are likely guaranteed a spot at the bar
-Tell the chef what you want from the start, you'll have a better experience
-Try to get a seat with Chef Aaron
-I've done omakase here 3-4 times, and it has been great every single time...I plan to stop by 3 more times before 2020 :)
See you soon Shiro's and Chef Aaron! - 10289181840
9/20/2021It seems as if Shiro's has lost its luster after chef Shiro Kashiba left to head another restaurant nearby. Currently, they are only offering a 19-piece omakase at $75 per person. They are doing reservations-only but it looked like they were willing to accommodate folks without a reservation towards the end of the night.
The 19 pieces are split into 4 courses and since everyone at the restaurant gets the same thing, your food comes out pretty quickly. Service is quick to refill your tea or get you anything you need.
As far as the fish is concerned, I thought the overall quality was decent. Nowadays, I'm comparing all of the sushi spots to Sugarfish and it's not as good here. The fatty tuna was probably my favorite piece and it's nice they serve it 4 different ways. The uni was great too -- super creamy. We also got an order of the black cod kasuzuke and I thought it was probably the best dish of the night and it wasn't even part of the omakase! The cod was super flakey and the hint of lemon was perfect.
Maybe I came into this place with high expectations but it was ok in my eyes. I'm glad I got to check this place out. - 1078125
9/15/2021My bf and I made reservations for 8pm on a Saturday evening during our visit to Seattle and so glad we did. For $75/person, a 19 piece omakase is SUCH a good deal. Since there is no bar seating right now, the food comes out in 4 courses, so you get about 4-5 nigiri per round.
Everything we tasted was of such good quality and we were so full after. The only thing that differed from other omakases I've had is that there were more "simple" nigiri and only a few specialized ones. They didn't encourage you to eat them in any particular order as I've been accustomed to. We loved it nonetheless.
The service was also amazing, all the ladies were so friendly and attentive.
Can't recommend this place enough, I will always be back whenever I visit Seattle! - 575364311
8/12/2021Quick Summary
It's great value, but I wish I tempered by expectations for their omakase. Great value for $75 for 19 pieces, but don't expect to be amazed. Definitely try the black cod; it was our favorite dish of the night. It's pretty good if you're a local and just want to get a good sushi experience, but not a must-try if you're a tourist
Food- 4 stars
Black cod- definitely order this. This was so good and I would definitely come back for more
omakase- the 19 piece omakase was good value, but don't expect phenomenal pieces. The setup is similar to a Sugarfish or a Sushi Gen, where the sushi chefs pre-make all the pieces, so there was alot of inconsistency between the different pieces. Specifically the rice temperature was completely off and inconsistent. Certain rice pieces were cold, where the rice started to harden up. The fish quality was decent, but really disappointed by the assembly line/sweat shop workflow that led to inconsistent quality
Service- 4 stars
The servers were very friendly and accommodating. Knocking it down by 1 star because sometimes your omakase pieces will be sitting on the chef table, which contributed to the rice getting cold
Bottom Line
It was a good dinner and good value; definitely order the black cod. But come in with lower expectations. Just very disappointed by the cold rice - 7905121176
9/14/2021Fish was flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed the omakase variety. Friendly staff, nice environment, good vibes

8/12/20211 check-inbest sushi experience ever!
We were hesitant to try a sampler menu knowing that famous sushi chef Shiro Kashiba left this location 5+ years ago and opened his own so this is now just his name and chefs he trained but he is not there himself. Glad we trusted our gut because it was absolutely the best sushi I had in US! Reservation only and its tough to find a spot but we called in the day of and asked to be on waitlist in case anyone cancelled they called back in an hour to go in for dinner asap we basically ran in..:)
Great service and knowledgeable waiters. Highly recommend.
Only one down side is the restroom is so far out like in a maze behind the building which is not the end of the world but I expected differently. - 3393263711475
7/12/20211 check-inI have never done an Omakase, not that I don't wanna but there's just no good ones in SD, so when I saw Shiros omakase, I took the opportunity to do it.
It was amazing. 19 pieces for $75. We also ordered sake and like a broiled black cod kasuzuke. Their award winning recipe, it did live up to its name. It was very juicy and flavorful. Excellent. As for the 19 pieces, they do a variety of all sorts of fish. My favorites were the black snapper, sea bass, salmons, scallops, otoro/most of blue fin tunas, and unagi. Very good.
Highly recommend. I would love to come back and try other items. - 5795271177
7/3/20211 check-inWhen in Rome, Tokyo... you get the $75 Sushi Omakase w Seattle Tax and takeout tip.
Truth be told, I was saving an Omakase Experience that was half the price for a work promotion that didn't pan out back home. But when you work the *ahem* frontlines as a HCW for a year with very questionable relief in sight--the All Out has to be on a trip you've been holding out on for two years.
Takeout Omakase is kinduv an oxymoron in this case. Though the fish held up during a quick uber ride back to the hotel, seafood along with fried anything is best right out the kitchen.
I wasn't blown out of the water so to speak, but I think a nice dine-in experience and an axe on that rice burger order would've edged out Jiro's to a 5-star rating.
4/5 ain't bad though given my mood-in-weather for this weekend. - Jenny T.San Mateo, CA5284120
9/5/2021I would love to give this place 10 stars if I could!
Totally qualified for Michelin star restaurant! Price is relative cheaper but super high quality fishes and service!! $75 for 19 pieces.
Not kidding i was thinking to fly to Seattle from Bay Area just for this! Will definitely come back again!! - 1057309784
8/25/20211 check-inOriginally i was told by a few friends that I should try this place but also eat before because I will still be hungry. I would have to disagree, I have never been to a 19 piece omakase for only $75! Not only was it affordable, the different nigiris were delicious. They had a mixture of fish from all around and I got to try a few w nigiris that I have never tried. On the appetizer i really like the uni squid with truffle oil. Lastly, my server Megumi was great, she was able to explain everything and her recommendations on how to eat certain fish.
