I must say that we had a bad start with this move- the estimate did not quite align with the reality, and the time and costs looked like they could be considerable more than the estimate.
We expressed our frustrations to the crew leaders and eventually the owner of the company contacted us personally to resolve the issues to our satisfaction.

So credit to the ownership for listening and responding with a mutually agreeable solution.

As for the move itself, the crews were strong and capable. They packed things extremely well, with padding and wrapping that was more than adequate. They crews were also very client-focused and willing to disassemble and reassemble furniture upon request.

To date (we just finished the move and have not unpacked everything) we have not found any damage.
      The good:
      1. The crews and their customer friendly approach
      2. The care in padding, packing and moving the furniture
      Room for improvement:
      1. Inaccurate estimating process (maybe he had a bad day? We don't think it was intentional) resulted in surprises for us the the moving crews.
      2. Communication could have been better (a move day was cancelled and no one had notified us until that afternoon).

If I could give negative stars, I would. I was not away that Mayflower sub-contracts out all work and doesn't have insight into the work being performed by their subcontractors. The communication from subcontractor, Scott Relocation Services in Seekonk, MA after I booked and provided my payment info was non-existent unless I reached out, and usually more than once. The company failed to inform me while loading all my earthly possessions that they had not secured a driver to deliver my items to my new home 1,300 miles away. It wasn't until 2 days before my delivery date, when I reached out directly due to no updates in over a week, that I learned there was no driver available, and no concrete plans to secure a driver. I was not provided any information on a plan for resolution and was told no date could be given for delivery of my items. I then asked for daily updates and was hard pressed to get a response. At that point, I escalated to Mayflower corporate, who basically sent me back to Scott without resolution. Days and weeks went past where I had to demand updates and was met with a lack of responsiveness and a complete lack of any plan to resolve my issue. Calls were unanswered, voicemails unreturned, and 1 or 2 word emails became the norm. When my items finally arrived, 16 days late, the damages are visible on the outside of the crushed boxes, as well as the inside with the ruined contents. I'm still documenting my damages to file a claim, which I'm certain will be whittled to pennies on the dollar. I still do not have my refund for the late delivery of my items, and I'm likely to have to get an attorney to collect that money, based on other reviews. It's clear that my time, my money and my personal belongings were not valued by Scott Relocation or Mayflower throughout this whole process. All of this said, the moving crews who loaded/unloaded were superb, but they didn't make up for the awful and unprofessional experience with the move coordinator and corporate office. I will not EVER recommend Mayflower or Scott Relocation to anyone I know moving, and I will sell all my possessions before using either company again in the future.

Update July 26 in response to Scott Relocation reply: Melissa was the one I was referring to that was ignoring communications and sending 1 and 2 word emails. Highly unlikely to be a fruitful escalation there, given past behavior and performance.

I paid for insurance to cover my possessions, and they would not honor. So they took an extra few hundred dollars from my, that turned out to have no value.
When either in storage, or while delivery they did significant damage to some of the items. When brought to their attention I was told by the owner that I was 100% wrong, he could guarantee it. He was not there, had not seen what condition they were in prior, so how could he possibly know. He was arrogant and rude.
When my possessions were delivered from storage, the workers were inexperienced and proper care was not done while unloading.
Be smart and do not use this company, there are plenty of others.

We used Scott Relocation to move from Providence, RI to Reno, NV. We would highly recommend using Scott, because of their fair pricing, professionalism, integrity, communication, helpfulness and friendly service.

We got five quotes. I expected that some of the newer methods of moving such as pods, etc. would be less expensive, but they weren't for our type of move. One company does not even send an estimator to the home, it's all done by phone with the customer. That turned out to be the highest estimate. Some companies do not offer binding estimates. Some companies low-ball the binding estimate to get the lowest quote, but then charge more based on the actual inventory.

Scott Relocation did not have the lowest estimate (though close to it) but I could see that Paul did a better job at creating an accurate inventory. Since we did our own packing (saves money), Paul was happy to make a number of adjustments to the inventory as we completed the final packing. (I highly recommend working with the mover to get the inventory nailed down. A 'binding estimate' is only for what's on the inventory list, so get involved with making certain that it's accurate.

Joe managed the loading/unloading and who drove the huge moving van cross country. He was great to work with...ex-Navy Seal, very smart, knows his job like the back of his hand, helpful advice, and a man of integrity. He shared that he once got fired from a company for not going along with a practice called "bumping the load". He said that would be grounds for dismissal at Scott Relocation, and a big reason why he works for Scott.

There's an element of trust involved both ways between mover and movee. There are ways each can try to cheat the other. Go with a mover that is honest and fair, and not necessarily the lowest estimate. Check the inventory with a fine tooth comb to uncover any low-ball estimates.

Melissa in the office was great with communication and on-line docs, payment, etc. They even take credit cards for payment. The loading and unloading went smoothly with the help of local teams at each end. We were also impressed with their professionalism and care with our belongings.

We rarely take this much time to write reviews, but based on our move with Scott Relocation, they deserve our highest recommendation and taking time to let potential future customers know about our experience.

We used Scott Relocation to help us move from Boston to LA. I was slightly weary of using a big van line again due to prior bad experiences with other companies. But given the peak season, smaller companies that do a dedicated move for you cross country was just too expensive.

It was easy to contact them and get an in-home estimate. We decided to go with the crate option (where they put everything you had into wooden crates) since that's suppose to provide a better timeline. Pick up was on time, and the 3 guys did a great job wrapping everything put carefully and finished the job pretty quick.

On the delivery side, the move took about 2.5 weeks. We were on a 2 week road trip anyways so that worked out ok. But obviously if you're on a tighter timeline, that might not be ideal. We did still end up sleeping on air mattress for 5 nights. In addition, the communication on this end was slightly lacking and I called the Mayflower agent in LA on a daily basis to get an update on the status of our stuff. So the reason I took 1 star off. But the actual drop off was pretty seamless and we had no noticeable damages to our furniture.

Scott Relo just did our office move, it couldn't have gone better. I sought quotes from a few providers, Chris got right back to me w a competitive quote. The crew came on time, were attentive and went the extra mile to ensure that everything went smoothly and that we were happy.

Moving in a word sucks. Scott, however, took as much stress out of the experience as possible. They (4 guys) showed up on time to pack us, returned the next day to load and came the third day to our new home to unload. They were careful (the only.things damaged occurred as we unpacked and dropped a couple of items - obviously not their fault), efficient clean and pleasant. When they delivered, they were very.patient with our indecisiveness as to where we wanted things (as new home is 25% smaller than old).

They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and did it nicely. If only all service companies would do the same!

I had 2 antique pieces to move locally from Attleboro to Mansfield. The 2 men who came to move them were careful, considerate, and efficient. I am very happy and will call again if I have anything that I cannot move myself.

I have used Scott Relocation/Mayflower Movers twice - once for long distance large transport van, and the second time for a local move. Both experiences were stress-free and a pleasure to work with Paul, Melissa and their moving team. From my first phone call, Paul came right out to give an in-home estimate and explain, in detail, what our long-distance move would entail. I did my own packing. Melissa, who works in the office at Scott's, was very helpful with packing suggestions and readily available to answer any questions or concerns I had. She also was up front about the cost - i.e. I forgot to include one large, bulky item in my home estimate with Paul and Melissa said it would need crating which would add quite a bit more to the initial estimate. On moving day, their team arrived promptly and worked amazingly fast. They didn't hesitate to advise if a box needed re-packing for easier handling and transport. Everything was on schedule and worked just as Paul and Melissa said.
Our local move involved large items - i.e. living room set, washer, etc., and again Scott Relocation was reasonably priced, fast and efficient. I highly recommend Scott Relocation Services/Mayflower Movers and will use again without hesitation.

Fabulous experience from start to finish. And to let you know what exactly that means:

START: Great experience working with Melissa to get our move done on short notice after some "other guys" flaked on us at the last minute. She did a great job to reassure us during this stressful time.
Paul comes to my house to make sure I get my quote done promptly since we are on a shortened time frame.
They make sure I'm set up with Mayflower online for documents, easy payment handling and move info.

MOVE OUT: Day before loading, come out and pack up all remaining kitchen items and computers. Day of loading, we get a team of 4 great guys - if I remember Angel, Angel Jr., Ricky, Matty - fast, friendly, very capable.

MOVE IN/FINISH: Items arrived on our preferred day (this is a first for our many moves). Dave, Andrew and Patrick were our move in crew. Again, another nice group of hardworking, friendly guys. In fact, Andrew even helped to secure a broken dresser leg (something broken by a prior moving company that we realized had been poorly patched on move out day).

Both move out and move in crews protected entryways with padding, put down plastic to protect carpeted areas and padded runners for tile and wood floors.

I have used various moving options in the past, including full-service, and somewhere along the line have always been disappointed. I began to think these disappointments were just par for the course when moving, so I am pleased to have had such an uneventful and easy move.

In other words, I would hire them again.
