This place has become a staple for our family over the years. It started as a nice place to stop for a shake, and transformed into an all around must stop. We've tried their shakes/malts, scones, pizzas, wraps, bagels, and more! We've enjoyed everything we've had and the staff is always welcoming.

Pro tip: add a shot of espresso to your shake/malt - the flavor pairs well with vanilla or chocolate without being overpowering.

Note: they close pretty early, so make sure to check before heading over. There is also no indoor seating so expect to eat at a table outside, in your car, or bring it back to your hotel/campsite.

We have been coming up to Tofte area for years. We knew of the standard places to stop and we stopped here once two years ago for coffee and thought it was pretty good. Finally decided to try their donuts and caramel rolls... Get them while they're hot! They're wonderful and all made right there. It's a hidden gem in the area. Everything on the side of the building tells you what they offer! Great service and high-quality food. Trust me, I'm a baker, and I know good quality baking goods when I eat them!

Not really a baking company. No breads, cakes, fine pastries. More of a donut/sandwich shop. One or two tables. Otherwise you stand outside and wait for your order to be handed out a window. Then you eat outside at a table, weather permitting, or sit in your car. Food is average.

On a recent trip up to the North Shore we were looking for a spot where we could pick up breakfast and lunch to go. After a quick search on Yelp it seemed that Schroeder Baking Company was the top choice. Since it was right on the way it was an easy exit to get to.

The inside space is small and during COVID they only allow 2 people in the building at the same time. They have an awesome showcase of doughnuts and a variety of other pastries. I couldn't pass up the scones and got two cranberry orange. They were simply delicious. We also tried the berry smoothie. Although it was tasty I found it a little too sweet.

Everything here is pretty much made to go. There is lots of seating on the grounds available. A perfect place to stop if you're in the area.

We stayed on the North Shore of Minnesota near Tofte for four nights. Our kayaking guide recommend Schroeders calzones. So we went that day for lunch and they were delicious. Flaky crust with tangy filling, reasonable prices, friendly service. Dining is all outside. We loved it so much we returned twice more on that trip. Our second visit was all about trying the milkshakes and malts. I had a carmel malt. Again, reasonably priced, good service, sweet, smooth, and creamy product. Our last visit was for breakfast on our final day. This time I went for a breakfast sandwich and a carmel roll. The roll was outstanding, perfect texture and flavor. So sticky and gooey. My sandwich was pretty basic but the price was again very reasonable and it tasted good so I was quite happy with all our visits to Schroeder Baking Company.

We made a random stop here for malts. The malts were delicious; some of the best we've had in a long time. They do not have a huge selection of flavors but we tried mint, vanilla, and caramel and all of them were really good. There was minimal indoor seating and TONS of outdoor seating. This will be one of our regular north shore stops for sure!

While driving from Lutsen to Duluth, there aren't that many choices. I was pleased to find the Schroeder Baking Company on Yelp, which saved me from having to eat at a gas station-style place.

The menu seems split between sandwiches and calzones. Having had enough pizza-like foods since arriving in the area 3 days earlier, I opted for the sandwich side- getting a turkey and Swiss sandwich. There were a few different styles of bread- I got the sourdough, expecting a cut loaf with nice crusty exterior, but the actual bread was more like a hot dog roll. At first I thought that maybe they used the wrong type, but from looking at the sandwiches that other people got, seems all their bread looks like hot dog rolls. Maybe that's a Minnesota thing?

The real star was the brownie I got for dessert. That was delicious.

Good calzones, good sub sandwich and baked goods. The latte was ok. They have some picnic tables outside, nothing inside. Friendly folks.

After hiking the trails at Temperance River State Park, I came here for a hot lunch and maybe something sweet, possibly breakfast for the next day if they had anything left. For lunch I got a sausage and pepperoni calzone, with some marinara on the side for dipping. Absolutely 10/10: hot and freshly made to order, crispy on the outside, plenty of meat & cheese on the inside. Delicious. And lucky for me, there were a few caramel rolls left, so I grabbed two - and to be honest, I couldn't wait until tomorrow to try one. Wow. The perfect balance of sweet dough (slightly crispy but not overdone), cinnamon and creamy caramel covering the whole thing. I will be back every time I'm up here, so good!!
