If you want to confess and repent this is not the place to do it in. I admit that it has been a very long time since I've been to confession, but I thought if I repent confess my sins, there would be forgiveness and the lord would welcome me with open arms, with love, understanding, caring , compassion... nope not here! I did not feel love , joy , uplifted or understood. Instead I was bombarded with a load of questions. I was barely able to talk and when I did it was only to answer the questions I was bombarded with. All my answers were wrong and met with nothing but judgement, I received no advice. I was told my children and I would go to hell. I left feeling worst than when I arrived. I felt deflated, defeated, guilty , horrible, and quite honestly left me questioning my faith which I have never done. It's very sad, lord knows that I do my best, I'm honest and good person, not perfect by any means. I know in my heart that this is not what God would want us to feel. It felt wrong and did not feel like the work of our lord.

NEVER go here. the priest in confession is HORRIBLE he will make you never want to be catholic again. he is so rude makes you feel horrible for every single thing you say. you leave feeling way more guilty for things that are normal in life. he doesn't let you even SPEAK just presses you on how bad of a human you are. he even told me i was going to hell in those exact words. NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!

The Fathers at St Peter Chanel are living saints and their devotion effects the community and makes the congregation more devout! They offer more hours of confession than an other church. The Spiritual Excersises are life changing! They offer retreats and classes very often. I have learned so much about my Catholic faith at this parish. We don't live in the area but St Peter Chanel is worth the drive! God bless all the Fathers at St Peter Chanel! We love them!

I was helped in my journey to the Catholic Church, by Father Ed Broom. I wish we still lived in LA so I could go to his class on the Spiritual Exercises.

Terrible place. Showed children (just the girls) graphic videos of abortions to get their point across. Unsafe teaching materials for young children learning about Catholicism.

We are living very difficult times. Being close to God keeps you grounded and HIS unconditional Love gets you thru everything you might be going thru.
They have a small garden at the back of their parking lot where you can pray, there are benches and a Blessed Mother and Angel statues, it's very peaceful
They offer several mass services thru out the week and over the weekend, also confession, Love their spiritual exercises, I highly recommend it
I do not live close by anymore so I'm not a regular parishioner at this church like I used to but I love their late services because it allows me to do everything I need to do thru out the day specially on Saturdays and I save the best for last, they have a 6:00 pm service. God is in this placeHelpful 4Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Helen K.Seattle, WA60482262Dec 13, 2018
What a beautiful church!!
Though I'm not a regular parishioner here, I've come here for Fr. Ed's Spiritual Exercises, which is really life-changing for many people. The program has seen ten thousand people according to Fr. Craig, with people (like myself), driving over from all over Southern California. Many of my friends have gone through the program, and you can definitely see the fruits.
I'm also in awe of the vibrant community here. The Oblates of the Virgin Mary staff the parish, and they seem to have done a wonderful job fostering an active community. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered Monday through Friday, which is pretty unheard of and beautiful.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Emmanuel G.Bellflower, CA2440131Oct 16, 2016
There is a great sense of reverence in this parish. Likewise , the dress code is very conservative, especially for women. Dress modestly. No shorts, no bare arms, etc.
Great place to do the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, usually a life changing experience, and the closest shortcut you can find, if there is a human one, to become a Saint.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2013Updated review
Reconstruction and NEW Catechetical buildings has finally finished!
Now there are more classrooms for Catechism for children and adult Formation of Faith classes. (they are called Saint Faustina Building , Saint Joseph CCD building & Our Lady Of Mercy is the Old Church Building , also called the small church building or La Pequena Iglesia).
Be aware of the circuitous parking situation. Some repainting & resizing of the spots has taken place, and the placement of little islands can seem like you've gotten stranded at the far end of the lot.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 28, 2008Previous reviewThe Choirs at St. Peter Chanel are all VOLUNTEERs, and so are all the catechists who teach first Communion and Confirmation students. Even the Vacation bible School is run completely with volunteers.
Aug 3, 2008Previous reviewIf you are searching for a beautiful place to worship, learn more about the Catholic faith and be in the presence of more people like you - your search ends here.
This is a community that hones very closely to Catholic tradition - It is staffed by the religious from Oblates of the Virgin Mary, based in Italy/ Provincial House is in Boston. There are daily masses (8am - 12noon- 6:30 pm - both in English and Spanish for the last). All of these are well attended. Sunday mass services are packed and people genuinely love coming here. try to arrive early, although there is ample parking, it might be a little difficult if you arrive too close to the start of Mass.
After every weekday (Mon- Sat) mass, there is also recitation of the Holy Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet - both are great devotions to practice.
There are various rotating choirs for the masses - each one has its own style, and adds to the whole holy experience.
SPCC also has Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament plus nocturnal adoration every night - Please invite anyone interested to follow this beautiful practice.
God bless!
There are always people available, including 4-6 priests, depending on the season, who can help you. The confessional lines are always long at this parish.
