Ruby's Salon is competitively priced and has a great location. The quality of your haircut, though, depends on which stylist/barber cuts your hair. Kyle, the owner him self, does an AWESOME job; he was able to quickly and accurately recreate what I described to him (high and tight with separation like a comb over but blended on the other side... not your typical crew cut).  On two other occasions, though, I have had my hair cut by an older woman. She came off as inexperienced and I was hugely disappointed with the outcome.

Would give 4/5 stars if they nixed that one employee.

The guy who cut my hair is white with thick glasses and clearly not so American judging from his accent.
He is extremely rude to me. When i was saying how i want my hair to look like, he didn't pay attention at all. And what i got is a soldier haircut. He was very aggressive and he told me that " this is the last time he will cut my hair please not to move my head intentionally", which I wonder working as barber, how could you say this to your customers. I don't know if he is a racist or what!?? Because I am an international student at uw madison.
Lastly, he asked me if the madison police department sent me to intimidate him!!! Which i have no idea what he was talking about at all. This is a warning!!! Do not get a haircut with this guy!!!

I came in with my hair normally styled. She did not even ask how I normally style my hair. I specifically mention that I do not want my bangs cut at all and that it was already too short and that i'm trying to grow it out. Instead of separating my hair by sections, she pulls all my hair from the front and starts chopping away (AKA cutting my bangs). Throughout the whole process she does not even ask for what I think until she is all done. Well too freaking late for that.

She then blames me for not communicating to her about my bangs (she was too busy listening to the news ughh). She then blames me for having difficult hair to cut. Even when she knows I'm clearly upset, she's like "oh look it looks fine." She did not even say sorry once. She then has the audacity to say that next time i come back i need to communicate better. I'm not ever fucking coming back.

There's a reason its $16 and located on state street. What a joke. Don't come here.

ABSOLUTELY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE!

Clearly I should have read a review before going into this place. Guy barely spoke english. Not a deal breaker as long as he gives a decent haircut. No. Like others, he gave me his cookie cutter cut. THEN out of no where he blows up on me. Just absolutely screaming his head off at me. From what I understood, he thought I was part of a gang who goes into hair cut places and jostles their head in hopes they'll get cut and can sue the owners. WILD!

Experience ended with him black listing me from the place. Probably the best outcome that could have come of it.

Verbally abusive owner. He constantly makes racist comments and does not really care what sort of hairstyle you want - he does whatever he wants.

I really miss stadium babes but this place seems to get the job done. Would recommend this place for a reasonable college cut.

Extremely awful, or maybe it is the specific hairdresser that I got. Khaled A. Shabani, a hairdresser there, cut my hair with no passion and in a painful manner and did not let me choose my hairstyle. He chose a hairstyle that was convenient to him. There are better barbers that you can go to. Try to avoid.

Needed someone who could cut Asian hair in the Madison area, and Ruby's Salon does the job, even if barely. My haircut is very simple, a bob with inverted layers and a lot of thinning out, and the Asian hairdresser always does it reliably. Hair washing isn't super comfortable, and the way she blows out my hair isn't very flattering, but the ends don't flip out after I go home and wash it myself, so it's fine. A warning: my mother got her bangs cut here and they were terrible, too short and angled weird. I also would NOT recommend any of the other hairdressers. I could probably go to a different salon, but this place is convenient.

Guy in the first chair butchered my hair and didn't pay attention to what I wanted. He also insisted that my ancestors worked on the railroad.

Just a man who needs a simple modern haircut, the older Asian lady always does my hair perfectly, it's a great price too. If you are a college male looking for a haircut go nowhere else.
