Royal/T Cafe is inspired by the Maid Cafes of Tokyo's Akihabara district. Patrons can expect a menu that, like the art and design of Royal/T, is authentic to a contemporary Japanese experience. The menu presents a fusion of French and Japanese texture with local and organic California style. Alongside "comfort" food and beverage classics like Curry Rice and Matcha Milk Tea, are modern creations like Ponzu Salmon and Kyoto Sunset Tea. Royal/T also offers specialty desserts and afternoon High Tea. The menu is served all day.

One of the most unique experiences you'll have in LA. Â Solid menu options and great interior design.

I have a crush...
She has a pale white skin.
She wears a brown sweet lolita dress...
She is thin but the white lace apron looked amazing around her waist.
She has a very sweet high pitched voice.
She smiles like an angel.
She is so pretty that I wonder if she is even real...
She suggested many pretty dishes.
She came back to me with FOOD!
She walked back and forth, giving away more of her smile and refills.
but she was no different from other girls...
all she wanted from me was money...
so I provided it for her...
She smiled and asked me to come back again!
and I replied that I certainly will.
I wonder if I should ask her out next time I return... - 1122303499797/28/2011
My first impression as soon as I stepped in front of the main entrance was WOW. This place is awesome. An art gallery that serves food, sells goodies, and has expositions! It was such an interesting and amazing place to spend time.
Got here and got seated right away by a waitress all dolled up with a french maid costume. It was kind of crowded because there was this tea festival or something going on inside too. We ordered the Royal Milk Tea - High Tea Set ($19.50). This came with a bunch of little open face sandwiches, desserts, and a kobe beef burger. The presentation was really nice since it came in like a tier.
At the top was the kobe beef burger which was amazing. It was really juicy and the cheese was perfectly melted.
In the middle were the desserts. They had cookies, brownies, fruits, and cakes. They were all pretty good.
At the bottom were the open face sandwiches. They were pretty small but they were pretty good. The sandwiches were chicken, tuna tartare, smoked salmon, and egg salad. My favorite was the smoked salmon but overall they were all pretty good.
Also, we got the Royal Milk Tea (it comes with it). It was like drinking those boba milk teas but warm. It was really good! I was surprised about how good it was and how it completed the whole food tier.
Great place for an enjoyable meal. I definitely recommend this place for a date. - 29528628061/13/2009
Cute little art gallery + cafe with overpriced mediocre food.
The waitresses are adorable with their cute little french maid costumes. Â The service is pretty good... but the food wasn't that great. Â It's a bit overpriced for the quality and the amount of food you get. Â Don't go to Royal T if you are hungry. Â This place is more for the atmosphere.
I want to try the Royal High Tea (Choice of tea with small pastries, mini quiche, kappa maki, California roll, egg salad and spicy tuna finger sandwiches $19.50 ) next time I go. Â It's a bit pricey but High Tea at other places aren't cheap either.
The last time I went there, I wasn't aware that the gallery changes every couple of month. Â I would definitely check this place out again when they have a new gallery up. Â Maybe the High Tea will be better than the spicy tuna tartar sandwich that I had! - 162109566762/21/2010
Cute art gallery/cafe in middle of Culver City. Â
Found this place last year during the Hello Kitty 35th Anniversary Three-Apples Exhibition. Â Thank goodness the lines at Royal/T is not always so long. Â They have a small parking lot in the back, but your chances of finding parking on the street is higher than finding something in their lot.
Like I said, this is a cute place for girls to hang out and catch up with one another. Â I am not sure why any guys would come here and pay for overpriced milk tea and bite size appetizers, except to sit and watch the waitresses in french maid costumes. Â They have a good selection of tea, but their food is really mediocre. Â But you are literally paying for the experience and not their food. - 100653480511/15/2009
I really didn't really want to plan anything for my birthday but after nagging from some friends I had no choice. I've been wanting to check this place out because of the cosplay theme. Then after checking out their website that the Hello Kitty exhibit was in town I thought this would be a cool spot.
I found out that during the exhibit they weren't accepting reservations. When I got there I was relieved that they were able to accommodate a party of 10.
The service was kind of slow I guess the waitress wasn't paying attention since our complete party wasn't there yet. But half us was there and we were ready to order. I ordered the hangar steak and my sister ordered the high tea set. My friends ordered the veggie burger and Kobe beef burger. We also got an order of sweet potato fries.
I guess while I was around looking at the exhibit my friends asked the waitress if they do anything for birthdays. They didn't but a waitress was nice enough to let me borrow her Hello Kitty headband with a huge bow on it. It was kind of embarrassing for a little bit and I did turn completely red. I don't like to be the center of attention but I guess that happens on your birthday. Â
Our food finally comes out and everything looks and tastes pretty good. I feel bad for one of my friends he asked several times for mustard before they brought it to him. It didn't make sense that the second half of our table (who were kind of late) got their food pretty quick after us. I blame our waitress. Oh well, for dessert we ordered the bread pudding and a toffee cupcake. The cupcake was ok but disappointed that the toffee flavor was in the icing. My friend brought a cake too, we sliced it ourselves but the waitresses gave us some saucers but not enough?
I'd give the exhibit itself 5 stars but the restaurant itself (food, price, and service) just 3 stars. - 5091295181172/4/2010
We were here for for their Hello Kitty convention. This has become one of our favorite breakfast place. We came also for their Christmas decorations events as well..
The food is great. Healthy, delicious, and simple. I would give it a 5 star but they took the $10 breakfast combo away which was one of my favorite. It was a deal! A drink, small side appetizer and a breakfast dish!!!
Their Breakfast sandwhich was yet simple but delicous.
Waitresses dressed in french Goth style skirt and apron with laces. Coffee is delicious but no free refill because they brew new fresh cup by cup. I like coming here. It gives me that modern Japanese/ American Goth/contemporary style feelin. :-) - 986627164610/8/2009
Really great ambiance with a pretty diverse fusion menu of food. If you have friends visiting from out of town and want to seem really hipster or you just are in need of something different because you've had Papa John's 3 times this week, check out Royal/T for some eats! I don't know if they do take out, but if they do, don't do it. You're going here for the unique experience of eating in a gallery/restaurant.
I went here for lunch and had their DineLA menu ($16), which it looks like the whole world is doing. I had the vegetable gyoza (delish), soba (pretty good, but warm, which was a surprise, and not vegetarian because of the Oyster sauce), and the flan (which the waitress recommended, but said some people didn't like... like me, who thought it was a little too eggy and didn't really taste like dessert). My friend Jen got the tiramisu, which outside of a REALLY strong espresso at the bottom (I wanted to shake my bonbon...shake my bonbon all over the place), was delicious!
The presentation of the food is really neat and makes for a dining experience that feels a little more classy, yet hipster than you'd expect. I loved the milk tea (with soy milk) and overall thought this was a pretty fun place for a moderately priced date. I would feel pretty comfortable taking a girl here because even if she didn't love her food, you have plenty of time to talk and the presentation of the food is really fun. It's definitely a place that you'll remember, unlike a steaming hot mound of fajitas and southwestern egg rolls on a plate at Chili's (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Like everyone is saying, the service can be a little slow from the maid-costume wearing staff, but at least the place (the PLACE, not the girls, come on guys...) is fun to look at. But they're dressed as maids! Not waitresses. Asking them to be super waitresses would be like asking Batman to fly faster than a speeding bullet.
I wouldn't say this is an "everyday" joint, but it's definitely a place you want to try at least once! - 51543919583/18/2012
REVIEW NUMBER 69 ;)
Finally! After 2 years of saying I will try this place, I finally did. I found out about this place when they first had the Hello Kitty Exhibit. I expected this place to be bigger but no complaints because the ambiance was nice! There was even a live dj playing some jazz music. I really like jazz! I am used to dj mixing edm, so it was a nice change. My friends and I decided to eat then walk off our calories. My sister and I ordered their high tea set with budding jasmine rose tea and we also ordered a iced cafe latte.
I was amazed by the tea... I at least took 10 pictures of different time lapses and at different points every time I saw the tea flower bloomed more. I am such a dork xP. After I got over how cool the tea was I finally tried it. It went well with the desserts. I personally do not add sugar or honey to my tea so it balanced out the sweetness of the desserts I ordered.
The high tea set comes with sandwiches and desserts. The sandwich that was my favorite was the open faced sandwich with tuna tartar and guacamole. My favorite dessert was the cranberry scones. It is just something about scones--crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside that makes them delicious. When I saw the high tea tower came, I thought I could have destroyed it all myself. But actually, it is the perfect amount for 2 girls. It could be because I had lunch shortly before I came here. As for the cafe latte, I always have to try coffee from a restaurant if it is on their menu. I have to say it is delicious! I loved it.
The waitresses are so kawaii neh!! They are super nice too. One of the waitress immediately came up to us and asked if we wanted a refill on our tea when the teapot was nearly empty. Also, whenever we needed something, they assisted us right away.
We chose to go on a Sunday so parking was not an issue. Street parking is free on Sunday! Knowing how great this place is now, I will come more often!! - 2901193449010/18/2010
I think my server took an extra dose of her happy meds today because I was welcomed with an overjoyed young lady. She makes "Disneyland-happy" seem mundane. At first I was a little put off but it could be worse. I'd rather be around "happy" than "grumpy" or "bitchy."
My super happy server was also super helpful. In ordering a Portobello Mushroom burger she went to the kitchen to find out the ingredients of the pesto aioli for me: garlic, olive oil, mayo...SCREECH! (sorry for you non-vegans that were hoping to know the other ingrediets but I stopped listening at that point.) The super happy server also helped my indecisive-Libra tendencies and suggested which fries to get. My final order: Portobello Mushroom Burger, no aioli, no cheese, and the Sweet Potato Fries.
While waiting for my food, I glanced around the room/gallery. I was sitting next to this shopping bag display which cut intricate tiny trees and created a diorama. (see photo) Pretty cool.
When my burger came out, the proportion of the mushroom to the bun looked awkward. It wasn't an abnormally large bun or an abnormally small mushroom. Just and observation. The burger also had red bell pepper, tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumber which tasted like they were picked in rice wine vinegar and sugar. At first bite I was starting to think I missed out on the specialness that is this burger by nixing the aioli and chesse. But over time i was noticing that the flavors mixed well. The bun was not as intimidating as I first thought too. I was diggin it.
Super happy server steered me right with the sweet potato fries too! Perfectly crispy outside and fluffy inside.
Overall, me likey. Big portions, reasonable price, helpful staff, cool/chill atmosphere. Bonus points for the cute gift shop.
