      This restaurant is definitely well known among the Taiwanese. I've visited Rocking Wok twice. It's authentic and the fried rice (shrimp) reminds me of home. I'd highly recommend to grab-and-go if you're craving for a hot dish and Taiwanese cuisine!

      Definitely a hole in the wall. Pretty casual and friendly customer service. We ordered popcorn chicken, but they called it salt and pepper chicken. It was nothing special. It was all right.

      Wonton and chili oil, this is OK. Wish there was more stuffing inside. However, it was a pretty simple and light snack.

      And lastly, we got the Kung Pao chicken. I think my blood pressure went up because the dish was so salty.

      One thing I wanted to call out, the waitress dropped off a pair of chopsticks on the ground, picked it back up and put it on our plates. This was not OK.

      An interesting thing was, you would have to walk through the kitchen in order to get to the bathroom .

      The best Taiwanese food at the best price!
      Rocking Wok is a hidden gem in a small remodeled house in a residential neighborhood in Wallingford. While the environment is homey and old school, their dishes are massive and flavorful. They serve the best and most authentic stinky tofu this side of the globe - pungent, strong-smelling, crispy and light exterior with a fresh and mild interior, complimented well by Taiwanese kimchi! The huge portions of Yang Zhou fried rice and Chow mein are also spectacular and not too greasy. I would highly recommend ordering rice with their Mapo tofu, which is heavily spiced with five-spice and ginger. While it had a good spicy level, it was too salty to eat alone. And the Green onion pancake was so crisply fried with a great oil taste, but needed the sauce! I would definitely go back to try their oyster pancake, minced pork rice, and chicken, bittermelon & pineapple hot pot.

      A very cute local spot with pretty good food! Very good when craving some classic taiwanese dishes. I liked the congee a lot, super warm and cozy! I also liked the ground pork with rice as it had a very yummy savory flavor.

      The stinky tofu and chicken were alright. The stinky tofu was not super flavorful IMO and definitely needs to be eaten with sauce. The chicken tasted good but I feel that the pieces of chicken they used were not very high quality.

      I had a general good experience here and servers were nice but it took a while to get our food. It seems like a very cute family run (I think) restaurant with some pretty yummy food. I do feel that a lot of their dishes are hit or miss though.

      I love that this place feels more hole-in-the-wall but you definitely need to order the right things!

      After many a visit here are my picks:
      * Stinky tofu (I always want to order multiple, there's never enough to go around!)
      * Three-cup chicken
      * Braised pork belly w/ mustard greens
      * Braised pork over rice
      * Taiwanese meatball or ba-wan (one of my favorite taiwanese dishes in general)

      Tucked in a corner of a suburban Wallingford neighborhood, this place is easy to miss but worth stopping by. It was a pretty quiet evening but we were only there about an hour before they closed.

      - Oyster pancake, gooey center, tart flavors, and the seafood flavor really came through

      - Minced pork over rice: a classic. Any taiwanese place can be judged by this dish as it's a standard and we loved it.

      - Stinky tofu: super crispy and stinky in the best way possible.

      Everything was on par and consistent. So many different textures and flavors. The only reason why it's 4/5 is because the interior could use some touch up. We were sitting by a vending machine that was humming pretty loudly, which killed the ambience.

      I really like Rocking Wok. The food here is quite good. I went here with some friends and we got a good variety of the menu and everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for some good Taiwanese food in the area. Parking is easy to find, the service is good, and its a nice place to enjoy a meal.

      Food/Taste/Flavor: 2/5 - I wanted to love this place since it's hard to find Taiwanese vermicelli with oysters but the food was quite disappointing.

      Taiwanese Chow Mein was really thick noodles that were short so it felt like end of the batch and they just gathered all the leftover noodle pieces and threw it in a box. We had a few pieces of something crunchy like eggshells and the noodles were so oily that we couldn't eat the last quarter of the box

      Taiwanese Vermicelli with Oysters was served very hot! The oysters were sad since I was eating more potato flour or corn starch than oysters that I couldn't even taste it anymore. The noodles were good but the soup very one dimensional

      Mongolian Beef was decent with tender beef but too sweet in combination with the other dishes

      Ambience: N/A - ordered food to go

      Service: 3/5 - called to place an order, server was quick and responsive on the phone. When I arrived to pick up the food, there was a couple that seemed to be friends with the server. The server was cleaning up the restaurant and didn't acknowledge me until her friend said something to her in Chinese. Had slight communication issues requesting utensils but we did get them eventually

      Value for price: 1/5 - not worth the price for the poor quality of food. Maybe it would have been better not so close to closing time but I wished they would have said the kitchen was closed rather than serve poor quality food

      I grew up in Taiwan and this is my favourite Taiwanese place in Seattle. It was super authentic. Though the interior and exterior don't look like much, it reminds me so much of home. Service is friendly. Though it doesn't seem like much service, it is EXACTLY what it is like back home.

      We ordered the
      * minced pork rice (w/braised egg) iâe
      * Sauteed Chinese spinach 空心菜
      * eggs with pickled radish # DIe
      * garlic smth smth pork 蒜泥白肉
      * beef noodle soup 紅燒牛肉麵

      I really wanted to like this place. It's an unassuming little hole in the wall with promising menu, but the food is inconsistent at best. The last time I dined in, the noodle soup was SO bland that I had to ask for salt just to make it palatable. I actually wondered whether I'd been served a big ladleful of dish water instead of broth. I'd gotten decent takeout from here years ago so maybe the quality has just slipped over the years. Sad because it's one of the few places to get stinky tofu in the city.

      Fun story: I ended up here because friends were having a bittermelon craving (okay me too). It's been a journey rediscovering restaurants after covid lockdown and having several favorites close or completely change. Taiwanese food especially has changed a lot in the area.

      So imagine my surprise when I "found" Rocking Wok, a restaurant that has been open for almost 17 years that I've never visited.

      Service was typical of a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Parking is street parking only but plentiful in the area.

      I enjoyed almost everything I tried here - bittermelon, pork belly, Chinese spinach, stinky tofu, and ba-wan (Taiwanese meatball) were my favorites. The stinky tofu especially was very reminiscent of the dish I absolutely have to get every time I go back to Taiwan. I'm not usually a fan of ba-wan even in Taiwan, so it was especially unexpected that I enjoyed it here.

      Unfortunately the beef noodle soup was too salty and the noodles were overcooked. The hand shaved noodles also seemed machine cut instead of hand cut The three cup chicken was good but also slightly on the salty side.

      The dish of the night, the reason we ended up at Rocking Wok in the first place, was the bittermelon and pineapple hot pot. It was absolutely perfect.

      I would come back just for the hot pot alone. But I still want to try the other traditional Taiwanese dishes that I haven't gotten to yet. Definitely recommend!
