Super lovely place to grab a Sunday morning coffee and do some work/journaling.
The line got crowded at 11 am, but I popped in a few minutes before that and only had 1-2 people ahead.
I ordered the OMFG (vanilla cardamom latte), and it was a great balance of spices, coffee, and creaminess. Would recommend for those who want a lighter coffee flavor but still a good kick/light sweetness! And not extra for oat milk for this latte :)
It is definitely a large space with lots of nooks to find a seat for you or a small group, and pro tip, if you sit in the corner near the bathroom, there's an outlet across the bathroom.
Saw this on a "best coffee of SF" list and I'd def come back! - 11541192364512/25/2022Updated review
Ritual Coffee is very quintessentially SF: a local, small-batch, responsibly sourced roastery and cafe with a flagship store in the Mission, featuring minimalist aesthetics, a $6.75 mocha with Dandelion chocolate, and a communist-inspired logo.
I stopped by recently while walking by in the Mission, and Ritual seems more down-to-earth than my last visit a few years ago when everything seemed a tad bit too hipster and almost pretentious. The menu is straightforward, service is friendly and efficient, and the coffee does not disaapoint.
I got a cold brew which was a hefty $5.50 for a surprisingly small cup (8 oz I think, with half the space taken up by ice). It doesn't take a coffee connoisseur to appreciate the craft cold brew, with distinct velvety chocolatey notes.
But still, I don't know if I can rave about a coffee shop with $4.25 espresso shots (+$1.25 for single origin) and no wi-fi.8/2/2016Previous reviewAll coffee is equal, but some coffee is more equal than others.
^Animal Farm reference, though I'm not sure how many people will get it... unless you read books and think about communism... as Ritual cafe-goers might :P
Ritual is the quintessential hipster cafe, complete with artisan coffee, correspondingly high prices, a beautiful minimalist space, and a pretentious lack of wifi and outlets. This is a place where you will find idle-looking people in plaid shirts, Warby Parker glasses, and man-buns chilling casually on a weekday morning, perhaps pulling a journal out of a suave leather messenger bag. This is the typical Ritual crowd.
Enter me, sleep-deprived, looking like I rolled out of bed, RBF and antisocial af pre-caffeine, encountering the talkative barista try to start a conversation and asking me how my day was going (even though it was 6:30am)....ahaha clearly I do not fit in.
The coffee is up there on the top tier of famous SF coffee roasters, rivaling Sightglass, Four Barrel, and Blue Bottle. Ritual's roasts are interesting because you can taste the notes in the description, like wine and fancy chocolate. I think my favorite part was the design, with an artistic use of space and a remarkably elegant abstract light sculpture.
It's a memorable cafe experience, though the price is quite steep ranging from $3 for a cup of brewed coffee and over $5 for a mocha. Too bad Ritual doesn't actually endorse communism as its logo suggests--free bouge coffee for all would indeed be indeed be utopian. - 69228011/9/2022
Imagine walking down the streets of San Francisco on one of those rare days when it rains heavily. Imagine carrying a large backpack, an umbrella and your phone during a work zoom call. This is the situation I was in before I entered Rituals coffee. I love their coffee beans and I thought "a warm place with coffee and wifi" (5G was non-existent in this location).
I ordered a mocha and sat down to continue my zoom call with wifi, safe from the storm outside. My zoom call got disconnected several times before I asked for wifi. I was informed they do not offer free wifi. I had to go back out in the rain hoping 5G would allow me to rejoin the call.
+4 stars for drinks
-1 star for lack of wifi for customers (Rituals- please help us connect to our work while having a $7 cup of mocha + tip we pay to support your business during this recession) - 1082295381/3/2023
My go to coffeeshop, especially when Ethiopian single origin is available. Did you know coffee originated in Ethiopia? I love a lighter roast that has caramel and toffee notes. I pick up beans here and make my own espresso at times but much prefer my lattes to be made for me. Definitely one of the freshest, most flavorful beans in the city, and one of the top reasons I am addicted to coffee.

Stopped by on a whim while waiting for brunch. The line/crowd gave me high hopes.
I decided to try something outside of my comfort zone. For $6, I got the tropicana: a taro coconut espresso con panna. It sounded interesting but was not what I was expecting, and I guess that's my fault for trying something new. It was creamy and a fun concept, but the flavors didn't work well for my palate and I think the ratio was kinda odd. It didn't combine well and the taro coconut was so overpowering because of the amount.
As others have pointed out, the music choice is definitely not what you'd expect from a coffee shop. It's kinda aggro, which didn't make me want to stay long. If you're planning on doing work there, bring headphones. Plenty of tables though. - 48972375206195/21/2022Updated review
I have been a fan of Ritual Coffee for years and my last review was just over a year ago. At that time they were unfortunately take out only, but now they have reopened indoor dining and the bathrooms as long as you wear a mask at the counter and show proof of vaccination.
I am both vaccinated and had my mask with me, but was still reminded to put it on even though I was not at the counter yet and there was someone in front of me. That part felt like an overreach and wasn't particularly welcomed, but I'm trying to look past it since other parts of my experience today were good.
I got an Iced Oat Milk Mocha (vegan) which tasted delicious and totally hit the spot. I was able to also enjoy it inside and look at some of the art on the walls.
They had t-shirts that I hadn't seen before and I was able to get one in my preferred size (XXL) which was nice since a lot of times places won't have sizes above an XL. I plan to use it as a sleep shirt and the material is very soft.
Overall, I am a fan of this place and plan to come back.4/18/2021Previous reviewFirst time back to this location in close to 5 years. I hadn't been to the Mission District in a couple years either, so thought it would be a good time to visit while driving back to Sacramento from San Mateo County.
I was slightly disappointed to see that they are still take out only with no bathroom access even though vaccination eligibility is now available to everyone in California. I hope they consider reopening indoor seating since I'm not going to venture out here from Sacramento only to get take out. I got an Iced Oat Milk Mocha (vegan) to-go and it tasted good as expected.
That being said, I'm still a huge fan of Ritual Coffee and have been for years. I love that they always have new apparel with their logo and bought yet another black t-shirt from them today. I hope they continue to offer new designs on their t-shirts since I definitely will continue to buy them.
I would bump to 5 stars if they reopen indoor dining and give customer access to the bathrooms again.5/25/2015Previous reviewFirst time at this Ritual location on Memorial Day.
It was super easy to find parking today since it seems everyone is either asleep or getting ready to BBQ later today rather than get coffee. The actual coffee shop was pretty busy when I arrived though and while there was a line, it moved very fast.
I think the aesthetics of this location could be improved since there seemed to be too much blank space everywhere I looked. While I appreciated that the shop was not cluttered, it seemed that they could use more decorations on the walls. While the seating was functional, it was not creative.
My 12oz mocha tasted good, which I was already expecting since I have tried Ritual at the Napa location before. The latte art on my drink was sort of sloppy, but that wasn't too big of a deal.
I'm definitely a fan even though I can see areas where improvements could be made. Come check them out! - Jazmine V.Alum Rock, San Jose, CA4286911/9/2022
Struggling to eat at a brunch restaurant on a Sunday is real! So my sister and I popped in at Ritual Coffee for a quick breakfast fix. We ordered Dandelion Mocha, butter croissant, and a pumpkin muffin. All 5/5!! For the Dandelion Mocha, they use the chocolate from the Dandelion Chocolate company - an SF local business. We liked that it had a dark chocolate taste versus milk chocolate. Butter croissant had a nice crunch, also flaky and airy, so good! The pumpkin muffin was the right amount of sweet.

Come here if you like over priced drinks , crap atmosphere ( peep the hard ass seats in my photo ) purposely covered outlets so you can't charge your device .. I mean the list of why this place sucks goes on and on

Sipped my Dandelion chocolate mocha while reading last Sunday and it was wonderful -- I love the coffee, the kind baristas, and the general atmosphere at Ritual! Great place to get work done or catch up with friends!

Friendly cashier, lots of good recommendations, iced tea comes in a highball glass (no waste), pour over coffee via v60 setup. Was told there's no Wi-Fi? I was a bit confused since all the photos show people on their laptops, thought it was a good working space, but the noise and clanging of things and lack of Wi-Fi made it a bit hard to work. Beautiful interior, space for artists and creatives to meet, less for techies. It's a landmark that people visit from other countries. Highly recommend. You might be asked to present vaccine cards.
