Please do not let the negative reviews about wait time veer you to another Veterinary ER. Over the weekend we lost our Annie and the doctors and assistants at Rascal we're incredible, polite, and attentive. If you think it is an emergency for the vet to see your pet ASAP, they will take him/her to triage and monitor them as they see fit. Rascal has very reasonable prices and will not push unnecessary tests on you. Yes, the long wait may suck for you but your pet is going to get the best care at Rascal. Thank you Dr. Sawyer and techs for all the love you put into caring for Annie in her final days.
Been here for 5 hours now waiting to get our dog checked for UTI. Good luck to anyone coming in that's not an emergency.
If you're up for a 4-5 hour wait then this is the place for you! Service at the place is the absolute worst. They take your money up front so you aren't tempted to leave after waiting 3 hours.
I've had to take my cat in several times the past couple of weeks and I am really happy with this hospital. I would recommend anyone here for the price is very reasonable. The wait is usually long but if your pet is your baby then you don't mind the wait. My cats surgery was less money than they thought it was going to be and was able to deposit the remainder of the money right back into my account which was nice. The staff is very friendly and I loved the vet that took care of my cat. The bathrooms are clean, the waiting room is clean. There are cat and dog treats provided for the animals. And there is a screen at the front that tells you where you are in line.
We took our pup here for the first time and would never take her back or recommend this place to anyone. The wait time is atrocious and I honestly ask the question if they even care about the pets and families they see? When we got there they took our dog back, gave her a Benadryl shot and said we just want to see how she does for a bit. There were others waiting for pets to be seen, so naturally we knew we would be seen in the order of arrival. However we had no idea the room turnover time was an hour or more per pet??? After 2 1/2 hours with little to no room turnover we see a guy walk out and say, "Can you send me an e-mail or call with my pets diagnosis? We've been here for 6 hours already and we need to leave". I was floored b/c we didn't see them when we arrived, so they were in their room for 2 1/2 hours without even seeing a vet??? How on earth is this even possible? At that point I asked another couple in the waiting area how long they had been there and they said, "3 1/2 hours"???? Absolutely no consideration for peoples time or pets care. We asked for our pup, they brought her out to us and said give her 1/2 Benadryl every 12 hours and charged us $58!!! They could of said that 2 hours prior. Come to find out the couple that asked for the email was told, Oh the vet looked at your dogs X-rays and everything is fine!! I mean WHY? Why would you have clients wait 6 hours to tell them that? It's extremely rude and inconsiderate to take advantage of peoples time and love of their pets.. I felt so bad for all the sick pets waiting to be seen. Dogs sleeping and shivering on the cold floor waiting to be seen until close to midnight; truly heartbreaking. Especially when clients could be given a diagnosis rather quickly so they can get their sick pets home and resting.
Rascal is affordable pet care - yes - but more importantly, they care about the animals. An aggressive dog was being moved from exam room to exit and the staff made absolutely certain that the pets in the waiting area were going to remain safe. VERY impressive. It made me feel relieved that my sick pup was going to be well-taken care of.
Use this place for emergencies only. This used to be such a wonderful Vet, but then they made one change that made this place almost useless. They now don't take appointments for anything. That is the dumbest decision they could have made. Most of the time they only have one Vet on duty, but even is they have more you are looking at a minimum 3 hour wait to be seen. Do not use Rascal as a primary Vet unless you really like spending all day in a waiting room. This place is only good for a last resort, last minute emergency vet.
This place saved my cat. Yesterday, I came into their office at around 5:30pm. My cat was very sick and I had spent 8 hours and $700 between two other vets already, who told me that they weren't sure if my cat needed surgery. I was exhausted, emotionally and financially, and I was sure that my only option would be to put her down because the pervious vet had quoted me $3000 just for the surgery. Rascal got me into a room after a short wait, where I told them about my cat and the other vets I'd seen already that day through heaving sobs. Probably scared the poor vet tech half to death because I was in such a state. Well, let me tell you, the vet tech and the vet were beyond kind and understanding. They talked with me through all of my options. The vet assured me that my cat did indeed need surgery, which only cost between $650 and $1000 at Rascal. They did everything they could to keep the price as low as possible to help me afford it, since I was already out $700. They had her in surgery an a few hours later and she is recovering well now. These people were an absolute godsend. If I could give them more stars I would. All the stars. I'm never going to a different vet again.
This place is good for emergency care, as long as you're willing to wait. My cats leg was broken and it required immediate surgery. We took him over here since it was right next to our house at the time. They took him back when we first came to evaluate his injury, since it wasn't deemed an emergency and they were having an extremely busy saturday, we had to wait 6 hours to be seen. Right when we went in they got x-rays and said he needed surgery but would have to wait until the next day, so they put him on pain pills. I was excited to pick him up and was overall pleased with the service provided. However, after I picked up my cat from the hospital, I opened his bag and he was covered in urine and blood...which means he was left in our small carrier bag for who knows how many hours. I felt awful for him, it was already a traumatic experience...no need to be stuffed in a bag for hours after that experience. On top of that his stitches came loose and his wound opened up and they blamed me for not doing everything I should be doing with him. But, they did staple his wound back together at no charge. This will definitely not be my primary vet care, but the prices are good so I may go back for another emergency.
My house is at the end of a street that dead-ends into a woods. Unfortunately, over the years several jerks have dumped their cats in front of my house and left. I'm a softie, so I have ended up with a "colony" of feral cats that I care for. Besides feeding them and providing them shelter, the most important thing I can do is get them spayed or neutered to prevent more unwanted cats. Rascal Animal Hospital is THE most affordable place I've found that helps me do that. Over the years I've taken around a dozen cats to them for this reason. They've always been caring, courteous and reasonably priced . It's true that you might have to wait a bit at the reception desk but it's also an animal hospital and they take walk-ins for emergency patients. For this reason, expect to wait.
Rascals is an amazing place. They are very reasonable reasonably priced and the staff here are all great. So caring and attentive. They love everyone's pets as if these pets were their own. I live close by and choose to come here late in the evening because they are so busy during the day. But it doesn't matter what time i come in they are always ready to help. There's no other place i would take my pets
I absolutely love rah! Several pets over the years, and they all have loved this place. They are affordable, compassionate, and always have the best interest of my animals in mind and work around the clock for community animals. I have had to put down now 2 animals and they were wonderful about it. All of my love to the vets and techs for all the hard work!
I've been going to RAH for at least 5 years & every year the level of service gets worse. I'm done with the careless (and sometimes incompetent) receptionists & the 5 hour plus wait times (even with an appointment). I want my dog to be seen by a primary vet & not a different vet every time. They're a clean facility & are reasonably priced, but I value my time more than money. I'M DONE!
OMG, this place is really a life saver. I don't write too many reviews usually, but this place really deserves it, they have the kindest, sweetest, most patient people I've encountered in any hospital. So, my kitten swallowed about 5ft of yarn, and I wasn't sure what to do, so I called immediately after to ask, and they directed me to the OSU Vet emergency room, since they had the medication to induce vomiting and Rascal didn't. But when I went to OSU, it was $150 just to get her checked up, and they took about an hour and a half before telling me it was too late to induce vomiting and they would like to do an X-ray, which would cost another $250. So I agreed to that, and about another hour or so later they told me they would have to perform surgery as the yarn was partially in her intestine, and that would cost about $2000-3000 more, on top of the $400 I had already spent. I was so worried as I would definitely not be able to afford that!! But also I didn't want my baby to suffer in the future. I called Rascal and explained the situation, and unfortunately they couldn't give me a quote, but I was willing to risk it and I knew from prior experience that they're always reasonable with their prices. So I got the X-rays and drove her to Rascal. At this time I was panicking, as it was already 7:35pm and they closed at 8!! But I called and told them I was coming and the receptionist told me that as long as I make it here before 8:00pm they will see me. Thankfully I got there at 7:58pm and they greeted me kindly and were quick to help me out. They had to do another examination and looked at he X-rays from OSU, and within an hour, my kitty was off to surgery! I was really overwhelmed by the efficiency of this place, and professionalism. And everyone there was sooooooo nice, and the doctors explained the procedure and issue really well so we understood exactly what was going on. The next best part was the price estimate! With everything included, they quoted is a range of $830-$1300, and they told us it would almost be impossible to get to the highest end, it was just a big overestimation for the worse case scenario. This was about 1/3 of the price I would have had to pay at the other clinic!! About an hour and a half after I left, I received a call from Rascal informing me that everything went well and that my kitty was all done with the surgery and resting. They called me again the next morning and afternoon to give me an update again and we were able to pick her up the the next evening! I was sooo happy and excited to have my baby home again and safe. Also, they refunded us $200, as she did even better than expected! So we ended up paying about $630 total, now that would be 1/4 of the price I would have had to pay at the other clinic, with Rascal probably having 4x better service, nicer staff, and explaining everything better to us. I would really recommend this place to anyone who has a pet. They will definitely treat you and your pets with respect and not make you overpay for it. THANK YOU RASCAL!!
Came in at 5:30 and went in the room n talked to the vet n was told to wait 30 min n ended up waiting for 3 hrs while she went to help other patients n they all went home one by one while I sat on my ass n it's 10 already.. I am never coming back here again. I'd spend alot of $$ rather than come here n spend a little n get fucked in the ass!
While the job done on pets is good and they are 24 hrs 7 days a week which is a God send. It's totally worth the extra money if you can afford it to go elsewhere. Took my cat in last year for a busted abcesd- leaking puss and blood all over- took 4 hrs to be seen. She needed surgery and thankfully though it was like $500 of work she needed done, it was way cheaper than other vets and we got in same day. Had to go back several times because of her injuries wait times 4,6,8, and 9 hrs. The shortest was 2. Back again for the cat there's a person here since 8am waiting it is now noon. So I figure we got an 8 hr wait. So few vets are open Sunday we had to go here. Verdict: while I think prices have gone up they're still cheaper than other places and will get you in 24hrs with in arriving. If I had a choice I would only go here if someone was hit by a car or vomiting blood. Otherwise shell out the cash and go somewhere else.
Always great service and low costs. Wait times are excruciating, but will go back regardless!!!
It's nice to be able to walk in with your loved pet... BUT much nicer when you don't have to wait 4+ hours just to be seen. Went last night around 6:30 after work. Waited 4 hours and still nothing!! Needless to say; we left. A whole night wasted sitting in the waiting room. Never again. Appointments are the way to go!
This place is a lifesaver. Around Christmas, my cat found his way into my sewing kit and swallowed some thread. I was not aware of this at first, but I found the cause after a full day and a half of watching him throw up solids and liquids while I tried to nurse him back to health. Let it be known that I am a full time student, so I'm low income. I looked at OSU emergency vet, but after hearing some of their pricing I got very upset thinking that my beloved pet would have to die because I was not wealthy. Luckily Google directed me to Rascal, and I decided it was the only option I could afford. I came in with Cosmo in the late evening to drop him off. I left Rascal at around 10PM while Cosmo got testing and X-rays and they called me back at around midnight saying that he had thread wrapped around the base of his tongue all the way through his colon and would need emergency surgery. I was in tears. Although it was a rough night, Rascal kept me updated at every status change. Cosmo made it through! Something I particularly appreciated was that I was able to visit my cat while he was recovering, and I was always able to call and check on him to calm my nerves. When I would call they would give me report then say, "I'll tell him you called. He is looking forward to seeing you." This is a small thing, but it made me feel like he was being taken care of by people who see him the same way that I see him; like they understand him. Their convenience, affordability, and love are the reason my sweet cat is alive today. I would definitely recommend Rascal to friends and family!
No one likes the vet- especially in emergency situations. That being said, I am so very thankful to have a place like Rascal available to me and my furry friends. I've had to utilize their services a few times now, and though there are things I wish I could change (like wait times, communication, etc) I know that it ultimately comes down to funding. And in order for them to keep their services so low-cost, it has to be the way it is, and they are doing a damn good job. I would say that in comparison to what I would pay at my vet for the same services, Rascal is charging about 1/4 or less the cost of a full-cost vet. And I won't even go into how much the other emergency vet facility charges. I'll just say I would never be able to afford it. If you are in a spot where your pet requires immediate attention, don't go anywhere else. Oh yeah, and donate to them if you can- it's a worthy cause!
