Total local pub, lots of talkative people, nice bartender. The walleye bites were really good!

Travelling through Fostoria around dinner time, my wife and I decided to give the town's culinary chops a taste. The first couple of places we tried were apparently "to go" pizza joints with no (or almost no) tables for dining in, so after a couple of false starts, we ended up at R-Place.

On entering the establishment, we navigated around locals enjoying themselves, and over the din of the jukebox, told the elderly barkeep that we were there for supper. He said something we could not make out, then fetched menus for us, pointed to the tables, and shouted that we should let him know when we were ready to order. My wife selected one of the higher tables, which I immediately hated because the solid pedestal base left nowhere to put my legs. After picking some menu choices, we pondered how to get the bartender's attention, and eventually decided to just go back up to the bar and shout out our orders of two burgers with lettuce, cheese, ketchup, and mayo, plus an order of pickle fries, and two Vernor's sodas. Before tip, our bill came to $21.20, which seemed pretty standard.

The décor was pretty typical for bars that serve food, with lit neon signs advertising various beers, and several flatscreen televisions showing basketball games. A large shuffleboard was along one wall, which was pretty popular during our visit, as was the pool table. While the higher tables looked great and sported both power outlets and USB plugs, there was nowhere to stick your legs, so my wife and I felt like cowboys: her sitting sidesaddle and me man-spreading in an attempt to sit close to the tabletop and the food.

Speaking of food, it was delivered by what I can only guess was the kitchen guy. He asked us a question, but neither my wife nor I could hear him over the blaring music, and seeing our blank, confused smiles, he smiled back and returned to the kitchen. The burgers were a decent size and of average taste. Nothing bad about them, but also not spectacularly good. The pickle fries were hot, crispy, and otherwise pretty tasty. A drink refill might have been nice (the Vernor's was one of just two drinks on the menu that were listed as having 1 refill included in the price), but the aged barkeep never came to our table. Going over to the bar to ask for our bill and then cash out, I felt bad for the old fellow that he still had to work at his advanced age, so I left him a 22% tip.

PROS: decent sized portions, good pickle fries, reasonable prices, clean restrooms

CONS: uncomfortable tables, wait-staff that did not technically wait on us, and REALLY LOUD MUSIC

Overall, I rate R-Place as being Good and would return.

Burger with a side of chips, an order of the pickle fries, and a Vernor's soda to drink.

Best wings and pizza around!!! Daily specials and only open for lunch on Fridays. Get take out from here often. Combo basket is a favorite also and the burgers and loaded fries are great.
