Previously I noted that the various mapping services online don't get the address correct, well they do now. I checked all the major map sources and they all map it correctly.
They have a new director and she is doing a great job with the YMCA in Putnam County.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 30, 2007Previous reviewNOTE! ALL OF THE MAPPING SERVICES ON THE NET GIVE YOU THE WRONG ADDRESS AND EVEN SEND YOU TO THE WRONG TOWN IF YOU PUT THEIR ADDRESS IN. CALL THE YMCA TO FIND THE LOCATION, IT IS ON 101 PUTNAM PARKWAY, 1/2 MILE NORTH OF THE OTTAWA-GLANDORF HIGH SCHOOL ON STATE ROUTE 109 ON THE WEST SIDE. YOU CAN'T MISS IT.
This is a brand new YMCA facility just two years ago. Super nice staff and a nice new, clean facility. They accept Y-Away passes, i.e. if you are a member at another YMCA in the country, you can use the facilities. They have a 25 Yard pool with 6 lanes. Generally, with a few exceptions there are always 2 (possibly just 1) lanes open for serious lap swimming, and the guards are pretty good about keeping the non-lap swimming swimmers in the other area of the pool. The nice thing is that even if there is another class using the pool, they still have lap lanes open. The YMCA is still building the Gym, but it is getting very close to completion, they have enclosed the facility and just put heat into the space. The space is able to used for limited use this winter and probably by spring 2008, their will be a gym for basketball.
The Y has an indoor walking track that is rubberized and 23 laps = a mile. The track surrounds a nicely equipped gym with all new machines, free weights and full rack of dumbells,
There is an 8 person hot tub and a dry sauna co-located in the swimming pool area.
I have traveled all around the States and have used many YMCA facilities, and even though this is by far not the largest, it is certainly the nicest for the size.
One note, if you are visiting from out of town, the address is 101 Putnam Parkway, Ottawa, OH 45875, but, at least until this time, all of the mapping services on the internet wrongly send you to a street to a town ten miles west of Ottawa. Best thing is to goto the Ottawa-Glandorf Highschool and go north .5 miles on North Locust St. (aka SR 109) and it is on the left hand side. The street is brand new and has not been put on the mapping services yet.
The locker rooms have divided showers and a centrifical spinner for bathing suits which is nice, because you can leave the facilities with an almost bone dry suit.
They also have childcare called Segullah Jungle, at times during the day for members and I think for a nominal fee for non-members that are visiting. Inside the day care center there is these large building blocks that the kids can make all sorts of castles and forts and they love it. They also have a 7 foot high climbing wall with a good cushion underneath, the kids love that too. My children were all bummed out when they were too old to go into the child care, because they always had such a good time in there.
Overall, a great location for location to work out and something for the whole family. Check out their website at www.putnamymca.org for other info.
