Is there still a happy hour?

Yes, at least for La Jolla, but it is somewhat limited: reduced prices on some drinks and on snacks and shares 3-5 M-F. There is also reduced prices on tacos on Tuesdays.

Returned to one of our favorite spots in town, especially during Restaurant Week. Puesto can be a bit pricey, so Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to visit. My only complaint is that they removed the filet mignon taco from the fixed menu options this year! Please bring it back!
I can't believe I forgot the name of our wonderful server, but I recall he's from Wisconsin and moved to San Diego in 2019--talk about high-quality service! He was incredibly attentive, and we enjoyed observing his friendly interactions with each table. It was clear he was enjoying himself at work!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Feb 20, 2024Previous reviewPuesto is undoubtedly one of our favorite spots in San Diego. It has become our go-to taco joint for entertaining out-of-town guests.
Their taco selection is outstanding; my personal favorites include the tamarindo shrimp and filet mignon options. While the short rib and fish tacos are also delightful, I've yet to find something I don't enjoy on their menu.
Making a reservation is advisable, but they are accommodating to walk-ins as well. If there's a wait, take advantage of the opportunity to stroll through La Jolla while anticipating your table.
As someone with Latin roots, I appreciate the ambiance at Puesto. The background music sets just the right tone--not too loud, allowing for enjoyable conversation during your meal.
I must give a special shoutout to our server, Sarah, who provided exceptional service throughout our visit.

why would anyone come to puesto for Mexican food in all of San Diego? overpriced food for below average unauthentic taste while the rest of san diego offers amazing culinary experiences. On top of this, they are adopting surge pricing. This is enough of a reason to never go here.
Now the owner is copy/pasting the same message onto every review here mentioning the BS surge pricing. It's a scam. Shame on you!Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 2Business owner information

Hi Josh,
We want to be clear, there has never been any surge or dynamic pricing for guests dining in our restaurants. Every guest received the same menu, regardless of their visit time.
Since 2012, we have always worked to stay ahead of the trends and have been open to new innovations. We accepted the opportunity to join a pilot program for DoorDash orders as a way to provide our guests with value during our slow periods while managing order demand during the busy peaks. We have also discontinued the trial on DoorDash.
Puesto is proud to serve Mexican food with ingredients we can be proud of, whether it's fresh-squeezed lime juice in our margaritas, salsas made from scratch, or the organic blue corn masa that we hand-press daily.
We'd love for you to give us another try. Should you choose to visit us again, please email me at phanna@eatpuesto.com, and I'll make it my mission to be onsite to meet you, and ensure you have a great experience. - Mar 21, 2024
Man, it was jammed! Thank goodness we made reservations. It's a modern Mexican chain restaurant and boy, was it popular. The food was freaking delicious. Plus we had a few margaritas which always makes the food taste great. Recommended:

If you're looking for a healthy option get the bowl! I got mine with shrimp. It was delicious, the shrimp was well seasoned and grilled just right. The rice was fire too.
Service was good and ambiance was nice for brunch.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 27, 2024
Cucumber margaritas were delicious. We loved the chips and salsa and guacamole and ordered too many tacos after sharing a wedge salad. The salad was a tiny slice of lettuce with a lot of cabbage and blue cheese dressing. If you don't like cabbage, this is not for you. We ate the shrimp tacos, which were really good, but wasted the chicken al pastor tacos. We were too full.
I forgot to take photos until most of the food and drinks were gone, but here's a few. The service was good, if a little slow due to it being busy. The décor and seating was nice. We object to the 4% fair wage and health care surcharge. That's a cost of doing business. Pass the charges through the menu and stop whining about paying your employees such a pittance in wages and healthcare.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 2024
Can never go wrong with dinner at puesto!!! Absolutely loved my most recent dinner with them. I went to puesto to have a small causal birthday dinner with my friends and puesto went above and beyond to make it incredibly special.
The food per usual is amazing! We all got tacos for their Tuesday Taco deals. I would recommend getting the Quesabirria and Al Pastor tacos. Also please order the horchata. It literally rice pudding in liquid form soooo darn good.
The manager personally came to our table to wish me a happy birthday and gave me a birthday card with a free taco voucher and a card signed by their entire crew! So sweet! And just when I thought it couldn't get better they came by and gave me a dessert to finish the dinner.
Loved it all! Thank you Puesto!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 29, 20241 check-in
The tacos are good but I don't know that they're double the price of normal tacos level good. The carnitas and chicken tacos came with the meat encased in something, not exactly sure what. Might just be the browning in how they cook it separately. I was a fan of the flavor of all three and was surprised how filling they were, they certainly aren't light fare. Chips and salsa were also solid.

They now use "DYNAMIC PRICING"; meaning they spike pricing during lunch and dinner times. Here's a screenshot of their article bragging about how they're ripping off locals, and they took this article down soon.
The internet never forgets. As a former restaurant manager myself, this is the most greedy and dumbest thing an owner can do. Their food doesn't even deserve these prices to begin with. They do not deserve to be in business.Helpful 5Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 2Business owner information

Good Morning! We want to assure you that we have never spiked pricing during lunch and dinner times for our guests dining in our restaurants. We have one set menu offered throughout the day, that every guest will receive, regardless of what time they join us.
We accepted the opportunity to join a pilot program for Doordash orders as a way to provide our guests with value during our slower periods, while managing order demand during the busy peaks, and have discontinued the trial.
If you would like to discuss this in depth, please reach out to my email, phanna@eatpuesto.com, and I'll be more than happy to speak through this. We hope to hear from you soon.
Kindest regards,

I came here with my friend on a Sunday night for dinner. We made reservations, so we had no problems getting a table.
We shared the guacamole, which was good. I had a margarita and a quesabirria taco. The taco was perhaps the best one I've eaten in my life.
Really cute restaurant, good service, and great food! I would definitely come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 527378Mar 6, 2024
When I arrived I asked for a table. The hostess at the entrance right away said I could only sit at the bar because I was by myself. Never knew that having dinner alone was an issue to getting a table.
I saw at the bar, bad tender was friendly and attentive.
Food was delicious, I had the taquitos de papa and a taco de quesabirria.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
