Q:
About how many small plates per person does the restaurant recommend? i.e. 1 per person, 2 per person?
A:
Depends on your group size but I would recommend 2 per person- and of course share. We have been there with small groups (3) and also larger groups (12). The servers are great and will tell you if you are ordering too much.

Gluten free options?
A:
Yes! I cant remember which options specifically but the staff is quite adept to dietary restrictions.

Cannot say enough good things about this dining experience!
Decided to do the Chefs menu to get the best menu experience and would definitely recommend that to anyone dining so that you are able to experience a variety of dishes
We loved every bit of every dish from the presentation, to the texture, and most importantly the flavor. There isn't a dish we would not order again.
Some highlights were the drink "No, I'm Samantha" which had great flavor complexity and the tempura elote for a tasty crunch twist on elotes.
The service here was excellent. Everyone was very attentive and informative.
Would highly recommend and can't wait to come back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 382181159Mar 24, 2024
We always walk past Proxi but never really resonated with the menu to try. Randomly in February, I checked the menu and there were items I would actually try so made a reservation on a Friday. I love how spacious the restaurant is. They even have a seating area behind a full bar.
For drinks, we ordered the Thai basil mezcal and no I'm Samantha. The Thai basil mezcal worked so well and you wouldn't expect it to but it paired perfectly. The no im Samantha was delicious and refreshing. Definitely one of the strongest cocktails I've had in the city. Given Proxi is like tapas style, we ordered to share between us two. We started off with the Hawaiian buns with the chili jam. The jam was amazing and so buttery but the buns were the opposite. They were dry with no flavor. King's Hawaiian rolls are way better. Only reason we ate the bread was to eat the jam. Next, we got the banh khot which is like the baby of banh beo and banh xeo. I've never seen banh khot so thin which made me have my reservations at first but I know how hard it actually is to make such a thin crepe batter like that. It was actually super tasty and made me crave my parents' banh xeos! The tempura elotes to us were one of the mroe unique items on the menu. Very crispy and flavors were on point. We finished off our food with the wagyu beef cheek with panang curry and the scallop. Now the scallop was sickening.. and it was very fishy tasting. Funny because I was more excited about the scallop than the beef cheek but the beef cheek ended up being our favorite. The wagyu was so tender and soft. The panang curry had a creamy flavor to it with a nice little spice kick which I enjoyed. Now for dessert, we got the pandan hojicha tiramisu. I'm not a big tiramisu fan because I don't like the texture of soggy lady fingers or coffee flavor but I was super curious about the pandan flavor. Anything pandan makes me so happy. Reminds me of home but rarely do I feel like it's made correctly in terms of really bringing out the flavor. I felt the tiramisu had good balance in flavor with the pandan and hojicha but I wish the pandan was stronger.
Overall, Proxi is such a cute date night spot but because it is tapas, it can get a little pricey nonetheless I think it's worth a try. They are always changing their menus so we might come back someday!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 4, 2024
Great food for foodies. We got the gluten free $80 a person 4 course dinner.
This is kind of an upscale place with higher prices but the place was packed and it was a mixed crowd. Some people look like they were on dates, some families, and some large groups of friends. If you're a guy, consider wearing a sports jacket or a sweater or at minimum sharp because that's the kind of place this is.
The salmon topped salad was beyond amazing and usually that is not my thing.
We got the curry chicken for our entree and it was really great.
I would skip the tiramisu because the butterscotch ice cream dessert was so good.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 3, 2024
Great happy hour spot and ambiance in general! Sat at the beautiful bar and got a slightly sweet tequila drink. We also got the tempura cauliflower, corn elites (more like funnel cake fritters but savory!), and a dip with delicious pita. Everything was super tasty and quick.

I came here for restaurant week and had a good experience overall. A breakdown of the dishes I got:
Course 1:
-root vegetable salad: 9.5/10. The flavors in this dish were very interesting.
-samosa chaat: 7/10. It was fine, but I've definitely had dishes very similar to this one, and better samosas.
Course 2:
-Japanese sweet potato: 11/10--easily the best dish of the night (we all agreed). I love Asian sweet potatoes & the sauce underneath was divineee
-black cod misoyaki: 6/10. The cod was well-seasoned up top but the rest was kind of bland. I've definitely had better cod.
Course 3:
-seafood laksa: 8.5/10. Good flavors going on and loved the assortment of seafood. However, this dish was kinda basic.
Course 4:
-Turkish coffee opera torte: 8/10. really yummy, but there was a salty taste that was a bit aggressive for my liking.
-spiced pavlova: 7/10. good, but it sticks to your teeth like tar.
-some kind of orange sherbet with a crunchy thing on top: 10:10. the most unique sherbet i've ever had!! It was very nice how they threw a bonus dessert in because we had 3 people.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 2926371948Jan 26, 20241 check-in
It's Chicago Restaurant Week and our first stop is Proxi. We've heard so many good things about this place and what better time to try than Restaurant Week.
Situated in the Fulton Market neighborhood, expect to take ride share, public transportation or if drive, expect to park in a garage or metered space. Proxi is the sister restaurant of Sepia, located next door to the south.
We got the $59 prix fixe menu, which h consisted of four courses. The first two are shared family style, and then you each get to select a dish for the third course. Shared desserts rounded out the fourth. There was also a 4 glass wine pairing for $39. The pours were rather generous and our server even topped us off a few times.
The samosas were my favorite of the appetizers. The cod was pretty tasty as well. I got the seafood laksa while my hubby got the pork collar. The spiced pavlova was superb!! Our server was very affable and knowledgeable about the dishes and the wines.
I'd definitely come back!!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Meredith S.San Francisco, CA20612Apr 4, 2024
I came here during Happy Hour (4-6:30pm) & sat at the bar. The Happy Hour snacks were great & the drinks were well made. I am not a big fan of ginger beer but it tasted delicious in the Sumidero Park cocktail The manager was super sweet & offered suggestions. Food came out quickly & I didn't even leave a crumb on my plate. You must try the Tempura Elotes! I would absolutely come back again!

Amazing food. Wish I came with a plus one so I could have ordered the courses menu, but some of my absolute favorites were the elote (I'm not a fan of elote/fried/cheese and it was still amazing). Also the Banh Kot is a must! I was not a fan of the octopus. I would go back and order something different if I could, but over all no regrets!
Also I sat at the counter and it felt like 30min between dishes. If I could go back I would tell the waiter I wanted everything at once or something like that.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 27, 2024
My girlfriends and I tried the Restaurant week dinner menu at Proxi and we were so impressed with the food as well as the drinks! They have a lot of options to choose from for each course, as well as have a separate vegetarian/ vegan menu. For course 1 we opted for the Root Vegetable salad and Samosa Chaat. The Root Vegetable salad was so good! I loved how couscous blended so well with everything. Being an Indian, I would say I've had better Samosa chaat, but also I'm having Samosa chaat at a fine dine place, so it was a different experience! For course 2 we tried Cauliflower Teriyaki and my friend had Littleneck Clams. I love asian food in general, the flavors in the cauliflower teriyaki were really good and it was very crispy. My friend liked the Littleneck clams too mentioning that they were slightly mild but that's how clams usually are supposed to taste! For the third course, each person gets their own entree dish. I opted for Roasted Butternut Squash Sambhar and that was my favorite out of everything that I tried. It had fried papadums on top of the dish and sambar was served over fried idli and I really liked the combination. I was just not expecting huge pieces of pearl onions in the sambhar though, lol, there were like 10 pearl onions, after one point I was like ok relax, they are just onions. :) My friends tried the Seafood Laksa and Grilled Farm Porks and they liked their respective dishes too. It was a lot to be honest portion size wise and we had to ask for to-go boxes, but everything we tasted was fabulous! For deserts we had Turkish Coffee Opera Torte, Spiced Pavloa and a Kombucha sorbet which was vegan! I was very excited for a Kombucha sorbet expecting it to be a bit tarty however it was very sweet because of coconut milk. For drinks, all of us had the Temporary joy as we were in the mood to have Mezcal and it was good! They have a wine menu too that compliments with the dishes you opt for from the restaurant week menu.
This was my second visit to Proxi and every time I visit, I fall in love with their food! I love that they keep rotating their dishes, so much to try! The ambiance is pretty chic and classy and it's a great spot for date nights or a night out with your girls!
I've deducted one star only because the service was tad bit slow. Few of our apps were served before drinks and there were times where we were just waiting for our next dish to be served. I'll still give them benefit of the doubt considering they looked pretty busy. I'll surely visit this place more often, one of my favorite spots in Chicago!Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 0
