Excellent food every time! Family owned and operated! You must try the loafers, the haddock, and the monthly seafood boil!

We were traveling thru the area. Googled restaurants and this one seemed to be a good choice. Went in, there was no sign to "wait to be seated", so we sat down and waited. Though several employees saw us, no one acknowledged us. After waiting for quite some time, we got up to leave and found out that we were supposed to order our food at the counter, then sit down. Would not have had any problem with that, had one of the several employees who clearly noticed us, had told us. No sale tonight or any other night.

It was very great but the service with the folks inside wasn't the best but the food made up for it . I got a sausage pizza the sausage was very juicy and the pizza was really fresh I would go back anytime .

The pizza may be good but never had a chance to eat due to the outright rudeness of the owner. He would not let an older family member who has difficulties with stairs remain at the front (plenty of open tables). He also would not let our large family group move 3 tables so we could eat together. When you have 10 people, one of the main reasons you go out to eat at a restaurant is for everyone to eat together at one table.
The owner continued yelling at all of us so we politely pick up our things and went to another restaurant in Howard. There are 2 other restaurants in Howard I highly recommend whose staff will treat you with respect and owners gladly welcome you!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Morgan A.North Natomas, Sacramento, CA1544Jun 19, 2019
Poplar Pizza is simply an institution that pushes the limit of rural Kansas dining to the highest degree. It is a New York restaurant that could compete anywhere in the country with its high quality food and experience. I have been eating at Poplar since they opened and recommend anything on the menu. The steaks, sandwiches, loafers, and wings are at the top of the list. The pizza has a unique New York style flavor that is unique for the area. It is worth the drive if you are within 40 minutes of the restaurant. Give the fried burrito a try if you are feeling spicy, or a charred chicken sub. They serve a Greek salad that is at the top of the heap for health food.
Keep in mind this restaurant is an experience for South East KS and it is not just a local pizza joint. People drove from Wichita to enjoy the food before the owner opened a second location in Andover KS.
Poplar has a seafood boil on some weekends that is excellent compared to the coast restaurants I have been to the crab legs on the larger side.
Hunters from the area prefer the bar at Poplar and always recommend the restaurant during hunting season.
As far as other reviews I have seen on yelp.... the person writing the review obviously has not met a New Yorker. The staff is friendly and always are accommodating to groups.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joyce B.Buffalo, NY081Jun 11, 2013First to Review
Great place to get a pizza in the Midwest . It is just like New York State pizza. Update March 24th 2014, They just put in new TV's. Makes dinning like being at home.
