5 stars cause that's all I'm allowed to give.
This place has great location when we fly in from Vegas this is one of our first stops other than chic fila (cause we don't have one yet), and our last stop before going back. The market is right on the pier no frills or thrills here you get your fish and you can dine inside or out. They have so many fish options even skwa candy which I thought was pretty neat since not a lot of places know about that delicacy . You can go in a pick your fish they cut it  fresh any way you want and take it home since it is a market too.
If you like seafood come here there's not much to say since every experience I've had has been a fantastic one, I've never been disappointed coming here.

Crab sandwich had too much sauce. It was nothing amazing but I hear this item is what everyone raves about. It was good but nothing really stood out.

Clam chowder was burnt. I can't believe they sold it like that.

I'll probably come back to try again because I heard so much good things about this place but I won't be in a rush.

I love fresh sea food. However, when I think of "fresh" seafood .. I am talking about grilled or steamed fish.. Not any old fish which can be fried. I'll cut to the point, the reason for 3 stars here is due to the lack of lighter, healthier options of grilled fish. Yea they offer grilled fish tacos, but they only offer one type of grilled fish plate-- I can't even remember which fish it was.

There are changing daily specials.. When I went there was a lobster roll special for $18 and a shrimp scampi special for $20. I opted for the shrimp scampi since it was the closest I could get to grilled fish. The scampi was delicious, but $20 only got me 6 shrimp. Another reason for docking a star is the price here. The sandwiches are decently priced at about $8-$12 per sandwich, but all of the fish plates are nearly $20.

This place offers a big selection of smoked fish. I will definitely come back to try some.. Although that too was priced on the higher end. Perhaps I just need to come here when I am not trying to eat healthy.. And get some fried fish and chips.

Last thing.. the setting here is beautiful.. It's right on the water.

This is a must-visit staple every time I come down here. The seafood is as fresh as it gets and the outdoor seating is beautiful.

This place is a seafood market where you can get cuts of fish and all the crustaceans you want, but they also serve freshly-made seafood plates, bowls and sandwiches, to name a few. If you like breaded, fried fish, French fries and coleslaw, then try one of the plates...but my wife and I come for the crab sandwiches and clam chowder, which are both amazing and are generous with the seafood.

The only downside to this place is the weekend chaos. They need to organize lines because people just push and shove their way to the front and catch the attention of an employee. The parking is a bit small for the demand, and finding seats can be challenging. I still think it's worth it, though.

More like 3.5 stars... 15 years ago this was my favorite place for seafood. Maybe my palate has changed, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I'll give this place credit - it's been around for YEARS and has been featured on lots of shows' like Rachel Ray's $40 a day. If I lived nearby, I would come here to get fresh fish, as it's also a fish market. It's an easy place to get a meal and enjoy a waterfront view (they have an upper deck that gives views of the harbor). Ordering is done at the counter, then you can grab a table outside and wait for your order to get called for pick up.

Coming from the PNW, I can say that their clam chowder and fish n chips won't compare to Ivar's or Anthony's (the PNW chain, not the "Grotto"), but they're probably the best in San Diego, For this particular visit, my boyfriend and I got the following:

    - Fish Taquitos: Comes with 3 fish taquitos with refried beans and cole slaw. I don't think I've seen any other Mexican place provide fish taquitos... this was a novelty to me as a kid. Yet the taste wasn't there, The fish inside the taquito is tasty, but I wish they had melted the cheese over the taquito. They kinda just tossed shredded cheese on top, so it was a bit bland. Also they REALLY need to give more salsa, because the 2 tiny cups of salsa they give is not enough for the taquitos. I ended up dumping picante salsa from a bottle to get more spice in.

    - Smoked Fish Sandwich: Very good! It's a big sandwich, very filling with a lot of flavor too. The bread is soft and easy to bite into. Kinda wish I had gone with my boyfriend's choice of a seafood sandwich over my taquitos.

I think this is a solid place for a quick meal - they're fast at calling out your order, it's open seating, and all self-service. You have access to plenty of condiments so your visit can be brief. Parking is a little weird here - most of the spots in front of the restaurant are 30 minute spots. And there is a parking attendant that checks. I'd recommend parking across the street somewhere and walking over if you want your visit to last longer than 30 minutes.

Whenever I'm in San Diego, I always make sure to include lunch at Point Loma Seafood in my itinerary. I love their crab sandwich. It's fresh crab meat on sourdough bread with some type of green spread. I like to add tartar sauce and coleslaw to the sandwich. I also like their fried cod fish. It melts in your mouth and it doesn't taste oily. Their clam chowder is average and not as creamy as I would like it to be. Their fries are also average. Their lemonade is delicious and it is self serve for drinks, so you can get as many refills as you want. The wait can be long during peak hours, but the workers here move quickly. There are plenty of tables inside and outside the restaurant.

If your a seafood lover it's truly hard to not be blown away by Point Loma Seafoods. As you enter you walk right into their Seafood market, which is full of some of the freshest and might I add most beautiful seafood I have been in company with. I wish I lived closer because what I would do to get some of this fresh fish in my kitchen, although to be honest if i lived closer I would be broke and homeless from my constant visits!
When I am in San Diego one of my favorite things to do on a nice sunny southern california afternoon is to stop by get an array of delicious goods (oysters are a must and their sashimi is melt in your mouth delectable!) great a glass of wine and dine on their rooftop seating area with the ocean breeze and the beautiful views. Love love love this place!

Great seafood, great location, great overall! Came here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

As soon as you walk in you're greeted by an enormous seafood display. You can either order fish (to go home and cook yourself) or order some prepared lunch/dinner.

I ordered the seafood combo platter. After a short wait, it came out and was quite tasty. The waits at the restaurant aren't too long. The restaurant is spacious and the food is prepared quickly. Overall a pretty good place, I'd come back.

    FOOD COMA AND THEN SOME
    (3.75 stars)

    - variety of fresh seafoods to buy
    - menu of prepared seafoods to choose from
    - beautiful waterfront and yacht views
    - food coma with a four hour nap :)

The thing I notice about living in San Diego, research is required to find good food (Mexican food is excluded). Friends have recommended this place to me after hearing my annoying complaint about getting fresh seafood in SoCal. They say this is their favorite in SD and I've been warned about the long line.

There were a lot of people in the market yet a lot of servers waiting to take your order. There is NO line, just order with anyone behind the glass counter. Only waited 7 minutes until my food was ready - seems about right. I absolutely LOVE eating by the water. Capturing the view of the harbor and eating seafood just goes hand and hand.

CLAM PLATE - served with fries and coleslaw. The clam strips are fried, breading was a little thick and mediocre with the crispy texture but doable. The clam strips were tender and fresh. Portion to price was fair. The fries were typical. The coleslaw was boring and lightly dressed but was nice to take in small bites to break up the fried on fried foods. I'd love to come back to try other seafood dishes and their sashimi. This spot is great for local SD but I've lived in Seattle; you can imagine how amazing seafood is the Pacific Northwest.

On a side note: don't eat fried foods if you are preparing your body for a cleanse. I've been eating clean for two weeks and then this happened and it made my tummy feel weird.

    Until the next review...

Amazing seafood.  We happened upon this place completely by accident and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised.

We were staying nearby in order to go boating early the next morning, so we just wanted to quickly grab some food to go.  This place has an amazing selection and is located right on the harbor.  Sadly, the clam chowder wasn't gluten free, but at least they knew that and didn't misguide me.  We had a smoked fish salad, a variety of seafood cocktails, and crab cake plate for him.  Preparation was quick and prices are very reasonable.  What a gem!

I have been eating at Point Loma Seafoods for over 20 years.  I love the back East concept they have with the big glass display cases packed with fresh seafood which is also the counter where you order.  They not only sell some fresh delicious seafood items but have a really nice fish market too.  The walk up and order concept with multiple lines can be intimidating the first time but since a regular i just head to the front as the tourist continue to stare at the menu.
I have a habit of ordering the same thing if it is something unique and tasty.  Here I have ordered the Fried Clam Sandwich 99% of the time.  It is so awesome as I really enjoy Fried Clams so add in some delicious sour dough bread and tater sauce with a touch of malt vinegar and it just doesn't get any better than that.  I add on some fries and drench them in malt vinegar too.  This is the perfect meal and if I am in San Diego I make it a point to get my clam sandwich.  The wife usually gets the combo Louie Salad with crab and shrimp which is delicious.  The crab and shrimp are plentiful and the sauce is really good.  I have also had the New England Clam Chowder and it is very tasty.
The service here is fast and furious.  At lunch it is pandemonium and the timid may go hungry.   You order and patiently wait for them to call your magic number.  Once called you pay and them take your food and find a table in the outside or covered side area.  Be aware if your outside the seagulls can be aggressive so pay attention and don't leave food unattended.  Saw a tourist lose their lunch to a couple of seagulls when he left to fill his soda.  They appreciated his donation to the seagull hunger foundation.
They also sell some really good smoked fish.  I have tried most of the varieties they have and always get the salmon belly and Ahi when they have it.  Point Loma Seafoods is a great lunch spot to sit back and enjoy the view of the bay and enjoy some really good seafood.  Their prices are reasonable for the high quality of items they serve.

Great view and beer selecting. Got a lousy portion of tuna sashimi that looks and tastes frozen and a same size hamachi sashimi that was of an ok quality. You got to bring your own food and wait in line to get it. It's not a full service restaurant with price well above full service restaurants. Tuna and hamachi sashimi and a 32 oz beer is 31$
Fish market seaport will give u much better quality with a view and a great service. Seems like a tourist trap place. I honestly gotten better sashimi at the San Francisco airport for the same money

Isn't it a bummer when you go to a restaurant with high hopes and excitement that the food will be mind blowing delicious only to be very disappointed by the sad flavors?  Well this was the case for me here.  The first thing I noticed was the chaotic scene upon entering (looked like stock market trading).  There is no orderly fashion, no number ticket system when placing your food order.  It's basically hover around the counter and prepare to get one of the guy's attention with your order ready.  You also pay at the same time.  The second thing I noticed was the high prices.  I thought at those prices that what I was going to eat was going to be heavenly joy, oh no :(.

Whole clam bellies were chewy, sandy and weren't evenly battered.  For $22 it was not a lot in terms of portions either.  Lobster roll bun was dry and they used more of the claw tips.  Fish n chips were also very small portioned.  Sushi rolls again small.  The only good thing today was the root beer :/.

The positive would be the friendly guys taking orders behind the counter.  More people were ordering food to eat rather than fresh fish from the case.  Sorry Point Loma Seafoods, really wanted to like you.

Point Loma Seafood is on e of San Diego's best! Bar None. Great food, great views and great beer.

The only exception is the lady that sprays the pigeons with Windex or table cleaner. The price of having an outdoor space is you will have to clean up after a few birds. There is no need to spray them with chemicals, use a water bottle if you must spray with something.

Locals and visitors alike should frequent this unique and amazing San Diego institution.

Try the halibut sandwich with a pint of great local beer. :)

I've been eating here since I was little and it's so good!

I knocked off one star because since their remodel they raised the prices and changed a little bit. But being able to get fish and it eat on the docks is amazing, a lot of times the seals will come by and swim up too!

Try the fish tacos! Now they serve them a la carte.

Point Loma Seafoods:  the ultimate seafood restaurant.

It's located on the waterfront in the exclusive Point Loma district of San Diego.  Either you sit outside, feeling the salty air and with an unobstructed view of the marina, or you sit in the nautically-themed room with the strong fishy smell.  I went with my parents, who were down for the month;  they'd seen the place on Rachel Ray's TV show.

It's a little expensive, but that's the nature of seafood.  I saw some Alaska halibut for $32.95/pound - such a deal!  Yeah, I can stuff my entire family with Mexican food for the amount of money it costs for one pound of Alaska halibut.  The octopus looked scary.  Again, this all goes with seafood, so know what you're getting.  By the way, the drinks are also pricey.

I got a calamari sandwich, and my parents both got crab cake sandwiches.  Half a sandwich each was enough to fill them up.  I ate the whole thing, and it filled me up.  All of us got onion rings, and these are superior to most onion rings I've tasted.  Everything was tasty, easy to get down, and the cocktail sauce added a great touch to the onion rings.  I doused the sandwich with Mexi-Pep hot sauce to give it an even better taste.

Me being a Northern Californian, Monterey is much closer to where I live.  That city is famous for its seafood restaurants.  But those places have the emphasis on "restaurant";  Point Loma Seafood feels more like a fish market with a restaurant added, which adds to the ambience.  It's a very good date place if your date finds this atmosphere to be romantic.

With solid development from Oceanside to the border, it would be ignorant to write that Point Loma Seafood is THE must-visit restaurant in San Diego County.  I'm sure it's way up on the list, though.  Between Mexican and Seafood, if you choose seafood, then this is the place!

Yummy food!  It's actually a fresh food market that cooks and serves food.  Our family had fish and fries, clam chowder, onion rings, and the clam sandwich which was our favorite!  The sandwich is made with homemade bread.  The lemonade is fresh squeezed!  It's walk up ordering at the fish counter, which is not my favorite but the food comes out very fast.

This place seems like the pinnacle of disappointment when it comes to seafood. Four stars on Yelp, the market sections smells like fresh fish, the food has to be bomb right? WRONG. First, you go up and see the prices. All right, okay,  a little pricey so it's gonna be good. I got the fish sandwich. To be simple, it sucked. The fish was super oily, I felt sick from eating it. The sandwich got very salty at times which made me wonder what the guy that was seasoning it was doing. The sauce was too heavy. The first two bites was just bread. The bread was plain slices of sourdough. When you're contemplating whether hot sauce will make a $10+ sandwich better or not, something's wrong with the sandwich. It's like they saved their reject fish in the back to put in their sandwiches while they display their nice fish in the front hahaha.

At least the people working there were nice. Time to digest all this grease I ate.
