11/3/2016I'll start off by saying I am not a vegan but after spending the afternoon at the Catskills Animal Sanctuary me and my family thought we should really check out a vegan restaurant. Very happy with our choice to come here. We had an amazing vegan meal and have already replicated a couple of the recipes at home.
The restaurant itself is small but cute. There is an outdoor seating area and an upstairs that you access via a small circular staircase.
My kids spilled a drink and the owner came by to clean it with a vinegar solution. That was really great to see!
Definitely get the curry bowl! My kids were huge fans of the avocado blt and mac and cheese. - 38131871
3/14/2017So many cool, new restaurants opening up in Tivoli. A few of my Eatbeat members are vegetarians so I wanted to host a dinner somewhere they would feel at home. Couldn't believe the amount of non-vegetarians who also signed up....what can I say, who needs meat when you're in good company.
Plantae is a small restaurant with somewhat limited seating. They have an upstairs loft with a few tables, the spiral staircase that leads up to the loft is a bit intimidating (speaking from a middle-aged, bi-focal wearing person's stand point, anyways).
The food here is cooked to order.....that includes pretty much EVERYTHING on the menu!.....and it all was amazing!
I wouldn't suggest coming here with a large group, it doesn't feel cut out for that. But our server handled it well and with a smiling face. I always give bonus points for that - good food AND friendly service with a smile..... I'm in!
Definitely order the Mac & Cheese! No wait.....definitely order the Enchilada Casserole! On second thought....just order one of each.
Even though I am not a vegan, I could see myself frequenting this establishment on a regular basis .... It was THAT good! - Jordan D.Ulster Park, NY2197113
1/3/2018The food here was good but it was over priced for what it is.
I'm a 25 year vegetarian that leans vegan. I've eaten a ton of vegan/ vegetarian restaurants.
I had a tempeh Avocado sandwich for $13, served in a cardboard box because for some reason they don't have plates. My wife's curry dish was equally overpriced and served in a plastic throwaway bowl.
The disposable dish wear detracted from the experience for sure. We both felt like we could have gotten the same meal at Mother Earths Delhi in Kingston and it would not have cost us $50 for two people. - Stuart J. L.Plainfield, NJ2352
1/18/2017On the basis of reading the other reviews, my family of 6 visited this past Saturday. I/we REALLY wanted to like this place, but came to the conclusion that this restaurant just does not want to be successful.
Although the restaurant looked like they had a nice comfortable second floor, that part was closed, chairs turned upside down over tables. We were relegated to the first floor, which on a cold night, was destined to stay that way while the front door was constantly opening and closing.
A few people followed us in, and soon the place was filled. Or at least the first floor. The cold first floor. A woman came in and argued with the owner to sit upstairs. She climbed up the stairs, destined to never be seen again.
I grabbed a few menus, but the owner pointed to a menu board, and told us that was all they had tonight. There was a choice of about 4 entres. We waited for a bit to be served our food, but I expected that. I pity the people who came in afterwards. We were finally served around 7 pm. The sign on the door said that they were open until 8:30 pm. After the owner served us our food, he quickly closed the restaurant. At 7:10 on a Saturday night. Our 6 entres closed the joint.
My group split between a vegetable curry dish, and a walnut pesto pasta dish. The curry people in my group won. The pasta dish was something that anyone could make at home. Brown rice pasta, I believe, pesto sauce and a couple of pieces of oven roasted broccoli. The curry dish was good, and the pasta dish was so mediocre No one shared. You can guess that I ordered the pasta. With drinks (of the kombucha variety), tip, the bill for 6 was around $140.
Call me an outlier, I know. Some of these reviews said that their meal was one of the best meals of their lives! Maybe it was because they had more than 4 choices, or they got to sit upstairs and not freeze downstairs, or they spent less than $140 on a pound of pasta and vegetables. - Lauren D.Albany, NY16111353
10/14/2016This food is seriously good stuff. Tried two different sandwiches and a soup, and was seriously impressed with all 3 items.
The Avo BLT was excellent - their use of tempeh is not overwhelming and compliments the sandwich well. Perfectly ripe avocado. Whatever they used as a creamy spread was delicious. I often find when people make vegan cuisine that some of the substitutes for dairy or egg based products have a flavor that's off-putting to me. This is not the case at all here.
The Muffuletta was really good, but lacked some of that strong olive flavor I associate with muffuletta sandwiches. Still very excellent.
The soup was a creamy chowder that was also very delicious.
Will be back if I pass through town again, and can't wait to bring more veggie friends to this spot. I only wish it was a little more of a sit-down restaurant instead of something that was counter service to enjoy some wine with my meal. Although, when do I not want to enjoy some wine?? - Claire S.Northampton, MA13612
10/29/2016The meal I had at this restaurant was definitely one of the top five meals of my life. I love this place!!! Everything we ordered was healthy, delicious, affordable. I'm not vegan and one issue I tend to have with vegan meals is that they can sometimes leave you feeling hungry soon after eating -- But not this place! I walked away the perfect amount stuffed and wasn't at all hungry again that night.
The Curry Bowl and Enchilada Casserole were particularly delicious (but it's hard to choose just a few dishes because everything on the menu is so damned tasty). Definitely a worth while place to check out for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike. - Donna A.East Elmhurst, NY7152
5/1/2016Blown away but the great food!
Some one recommended Plantae to us and boy were we glad. The staff was friendly and gave us great recommendations.
We ordered the tacos for our appetizer, and it was so delicious that we both couldn't wait for our main course.
I ordered the Enchiladas, it was filling and tasted so good I still think about that plate!
We also ordered the Curry Bowl, which we also enjoyed, it was flavorful and very filling as well.
We only stayed in the area two days, which was bummer because we wanted to come back to try more things. Next time we are in area we are definitely stopping by again. - Eddie H.Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, NY01
5/22/2016Nailed it! Moved from Brooklyn a couple of years ago and have been looking for quality vegan fare that is not just a menu afterthought. This place delivers and then some. Thoughtful menu with excellent selection and variety.
The location is super quaint and service is very friendly. I plan on going back and bringing guests. It's BYOB with a nominal corking free. - Elyce J.San Francisco, CA479231
3/26/2017Second time here and still no disappointments. Ordered one of everything on the menu and one dish was better than the next. The two favorites today were the curry and the purple carrot and cauliflower with maple tahini. Can't wait for our next visits.
